Are we markedly any worse than other clubs?

When Dabo was rated ie in league 1/the start of the championship, was he over-rated? I’m not so sure.

Im pretty sure by the end everyone knew he should’ve been finished with us. I don’t remember people saying he was fantastic; ruined yes. They might still have loved him but that’s not the same.
I thought he was excellent in the first St Andrew's season.

Has to be Kevin Drinkall and Chris Chilton.

Two strikers who couldn't score in a brothel.

Marquee signings as well, what a waste of money.

I’m desperate to think of someone who fits the bill…
I’m gonna say Brian Borrows…that’s right! That’s one of my all time favourite players, Brian Borrows!
I’ve heard people saying he should’ve played loads of games for England. I’m gonna say he was ever so slightly too weak and too easily knocked off the ball. For evidence see David Platt’s goal vs us at highfield Rd.
I hate myself.
Also a lot of his crosses were floaty so hard to head in. Decent player though.

Drinkall scored every where else though. A terrific striker who just didn't do it for us for whatever reason. That doesn't make him overrated, just crap for us.

Well yes but we are talking about players that played for us. 😎

Chilton got injured early on and never recovered. Drinkell was a piss head who was in the pub in Kenilworth before Highfield Rd had emptied on match day.

30 odd goals in over 170 appearances. He was the definition of inconsistent.
Another career derailed by late period Ron Atkinson. Ndlovu was class. Think Big Ron switched him from centre to wing reducing his goal threat.
Remember someone saying he birthed so many illegitimate children (Nuddy not Ron) that surely some should be playing for us now,

Was my favourite Cov player when he was with us, but he really did only have like one and a half good seasons.
After his injuries, he could hardly run
He had good moments in his first two seasons with us in the championship but gradually declined. For example he played well in our wins against Fulham in 2021/22.

He could never play well on a heavy pitch but at the start and end of the season he was usually on fire.

Considering what we paid for him was a very significant sum at the time, I think he's our worst ever signing.

Whatever he was before, he was dross when he came to us.

Ben Stevenson
Tom Bayliss
George Thomas

Three academy players who stood out during our lowest times but ultimately not that good.

Bayliss particularly was being lauded as a potential superstar when in reality a mistake League 1 player is who he is.

Everybody knows he flopped for us and our fans don't hold him in reverence, so how is he over rated.

As I said he scored at every club he was at before joining us so he didn't arrive over rated.

I accept he is probably out most disappointing - but not over rated.

I didn't actually say he was. I said I thought him our worst ever signing.

Sounds like we are in agreement, then.

Definitely two words.

Drinkell was almost the same price 10+ years earlier, though. I still rate him as worse.
In my mind we spent £900k on Drinkell and a few mil on O’Neil. Let’s be honest, both shite. Althogh I did see Drinkell score a couple of decent goals…vs Utd and…er…Grimsby. Who actually think would’ve been half decent back then.

Enjoyable thread... I would have pitched McAllister and Hadji. Both ridiculously talented players who played in some great games for us...

But both were huge targets for the boo boys for long spells. McAllister got dogs abuse until he came back from injury and didn't really hit top form for us as others have said until Carlton Palmers arrival. Similar with Hadji - In the the relegation season he was slated by loads of our fans for his performances. Possibly unfairly as he was also captain.

I might get abuse for this but I think Sheaf is overrated. Not captain material and very prone to errors; don’t recall him ever playing a full season and usually misses a huge chunk.
