From the stoke forum. Sounds familiar

He's really not helping himself with some very odd lineups. Hopefully I'm made to eat my words but the last few times he's picked a weird team that everybody's slaughtered, we've lost and played terribly. Portsmouth and Bristol City in particular.

Only makes you wonder if you thought MR wasn't limited. I like MR but he is tactically limited and that was something we all seen after Adi and DL left leaving him standing on his own.

For me, it's why he never left us. I think he knew full well we were the perfect fit for him and that he'd find it difficult elsewhere.

Expectations were low throughout his time at Coventry it worked perfectly for him. When he did have pressure to progress this season, he massively struggled.

He's gone in at Stoke and had a nightmare. It's quite sad really. It's remarkable how things have changed since April when he was walking us out at Wembley.

Yeah plus his track record before he came to us just supports the fact he is limited. Didn't Doug King tell him to find an astute technical No 2 otherwise he will be exposed. ….

Yeah, this quote could have been from this forum months ago....

"He’s set up every game not to lose.

We sit off teams, we defend deep, every players first thought when they receive the ball is to play safe or backwards.

His subs tonight they don’t try to change any issues they’re all just like for like.

Absolutely pathetic line up, pathetic approach and pathetic in game management.

We’ve fallen for a one club wonder yet again. "

looks like a tough job for MR

I've got a couple of mates who are Sheff Utd fans and their fans love him. He looked overweight at the start of last season for us as well.
he looks far heavier than he did then now

he was so slow

Stoke haven't registered as much as a top half finish since they dropped out the Prem in 2018... that is alarmingly bad considering they have actually thrown money at it as well

Imagine if the Coates family were not generous enough to plug their massive losses year after year, they would be headed the same way Derby went

Robins will keep Stoke up - there’s 3 worse teams than them.

the squad is garbage, they shouldn’t have beat us first game, not sure what he can do with them. Got to give him a. Transfer window to see what he can change.

The problem is how you persuade decent players to go there at the moment. I know money talks.but FFP will stop them forking out loads, and they won't recoup much from from a very low value squad. Nearly any other championship club would look more appealing to a player.

In fairness to Robins, can three managers they've had this season all be shite

I said at the time going to Stoke would be a poor career choice. Probably paid pretty well but in terms of longevity and for his reputation it was never likely to go well.

There's a huge complacency issue at Stoke, and I strongly suspect the issues come from the top down. Coates family have been very generous over the years, but in terms of running a football club, they're pretty poor at it.

Robins will be in his comfort zone. I’ve said this before, he performs best when his back is against the wall.

he’ll create a siege mentality and push to sign players than might not necessarily be top players, but will have enough about them to run through brick walls for him

Worked well for him this season.....

Robins is successful when no expectation is placed on his head and he can operate freely within the confines of his role.

The Coates family expect immediate results from their managers and Robins has always been a slow burn but as shown here eventually yields results when he can mould a squad to his style and vision.

He won't get that amount of time from their owners. Burning through something like 9 permanent managers in 7 years shows that.

I’m sure I read somewhere his record is worse than Pelach’s after 9 games

ironically his best period for us when he was on the brink. I was an advocate of his time was up, but the timing of his sacking was odd considering we’d won I think 2/3 games before derby

Probably, but by all accounts he was clueless. I mean if we had Rooney and he was clueless after 9 games - would you advocate for more time?

I can't believe every manager is clueless, there's something deeper lying wrong at the club.
And even if they are all useless, perhaps they need a look at their managerial recruitment process?

I don’t think either, but you can’t blanket approach it as “they need time”

They’ll have more of a view on it than we will,

we know Robins will sort that out, so he’ll need time. That being said, outside of us and Rotherham where he was really up against it robins hasn’t really excelled

The fact they burn through managers at the rate they do suggests there's something very amiss.

I'm glad we don't operate like that.

I’m also glad we don’t operate like that… yet.

I’always mindful that Doug kept Robins longer because of the potential backlash. Be interesting to see how long Lampard gets if he goes on an iffy run.

Seems like Stoke fans are running out of people to blame and are turning on Jon Walters. How did he end up as their Director of Football?
That was this forum a few months ago wasn't it? (not the Jon Walters part.)

There was a Stoke fan on their forum saying that Robins was a great appointment, back in January, and that they would be happy for him to have the time to rebuild the squad even if it meant relegation this season. Loads of posters on their agreed with them. Now all of a sudden he needs to be sacked because they're not clear of the relegation zone, and pushing for the play-offs. Such short term memory. Maybe they need to get past the delusions that their squad is going to be doing anything but scrapping at the bottom, considering the lack of quality.
