Fans want to show appreciation for a manager who gave a lot of us our best memories as a Coventry fan.

He took us from one of the worst squads ever assembled and an ultimately horrendous season in L1, to an established Championship club consistently expected to challenge for promotion.

I have no idea why that’s being ridiculed or belittled. It’s bizarre.

On Saturday week I will hold two ideas completely in conflict with one another. I want City to win and I don't want Mark Robins to lose. Ultimately the desire for City to win will prevail, but tinged with sadness.

Mark Robins got me back into being an active rather than passive City supporter, during his first brief stint. I always felt that even if we were relegated from the Championship we should stick by him, as we were all on a long term project together, although I will grant you that things were clearly not good at the start of this season. He is my sort of manager - slightly dour, pragmatic. Not a dandy dan.

He is the greatest Coventry City manager of all time, and I was around for Jimmy Hill. He took over when the club was in a worse condition and operating in a far more competitive landscape than Hill's time. Two promotions, one play off and a cup semi final (and a temporary stint in Brum) in seven years was immense. Curiously both Hill and Robins buggered off at key moments but I would argue Hill's departure was far more hurtful - it was just when we needed him most.

Before we get too ecstatic about Frank - don't forget the concept of 'New manager bounce'. If you remember Robins had the exact reverse. New manager slump - "Taxi for Robins" anyone? But he came back from that.

What stage of grief is this?

Look, I was one of those who disagreed with the sacking of Robins. I thought King got it wrong by having that forum/interview so soon after. And I didn’t believe half of what he said.
When Lampard was appointed I accepted he was the new manager and backed him 100% ,because to not do so in my eyes would be not supporting the team.
But I am a Coventry City supporter, we are playing Stoke not Mark Robins. All I want is 3 points.
What happens to Mark and Stoke after Saturday is their business,I don’t give a monkeys toss.
If the crowd applaud him before the game, will probably give him a bit of a clap and that will be it.
He will be financially sound whatever happens,he can retire in luxury.
Better off than me after 49 years on paye, so good luck to him. He doesn’t need my sympathy.

Well said. Exactly where I am with it all.

I think really some of the supporters are overthinking / overhyping this which in turn is creating an awkwardness with the whole thing .

We play we win we clap we appreciate we go home , or whichever way it happens

So with Mark Robins knowing our team very well will he manage to put a massive spanner in the works?

How well does he know it though ? During the period nearing the end of his tenure it looked like he barely knew it all . Grimes has come in which changes the dynamics. He didn't appear to know his best starting 11 and the level of form and performances were not great. Additionally when looking at the Stoke forum their fans seem to have a similar opinion although simultaneously recognising that their squad is crap.

Do you think he'd become a bad manager at this stage?

No , not a bad manager but missing 2/3 of the coaching team that delivered the success he truly looked lost and unable to counteract the decline . Lampard has been great but nobody can fully appreciate the contribution from his coaching staff.

I'm fine with MR getting his applause before the game but once the match starts we get right behind the team and forget MR, until after the game when we've hopefully beaten them.

The idea that any fan is torn on Saturday is beyond bizarre. We need to carry on winning. I hope Robins gets a huge reception 10 mins before kick off then I hope we spank his Stoke side by 5.

being grateful for his fabulous historic contribution should not he at the expense of the present or our future.

I hope he gets a good reaction before the game. I can't imagine he won't. He deserves it

Then we move on(hopefully everyone can after this game)

In reality we need to keep the momentum going and another 3 points on the board ideally with the tough 3 games after Derby.

It is going to be very very strange, the best manager of my lifetime coming back after what he did.
The way I look at it is Mark Robins legacy at Coventry City is cemented, and when he retires and comes back on legends days he will, undoubtedly get absolutely everything and more that he deserves in terms of adulation, recognition and glorious praise. And he will get that every time. That is a guarantee and it's not if that happens it's just when.

He deserves a very good reception ofcourse and he will, but him coming back with another club, wanting to beat us, needing to beat us. It's a competitive game and so I want nothing more than us to beat them.
