There’s also the speed at which the US could ramp up their domestic manufacturing with limited reliance on external raw materials. All well and good (well, it’s not, but just a turn of phrase) trying to make your domestic produce more competitive but if you don’t have capacity to support the demand it’ll just bring everything to a halt.
It’s all a bit of a balancing act of whether the US imports are more ‘necessary’ than their exports. Without knowing the balance of trade, I’d suggest that “electricity” (lol) is going to trump anything they’re exporting. May be wrong.
