Clive Platt -- resign him now.

I always thought Platt had a quality touch sometimes on the floor for a big fella :)

I'd try ROD or Jeffers or Wilson over Leon Clarke.

Clarke has only 16 goals for the season and a meagre 5 in 11 games for us. 1 goal every 2 games is simply not acceptable and we need to get shot immediately.

GInnette probably will take this seriously.

And remember all the goals he's scored even a blind one legged octogenarian could have put away.

Platt and Clarke are exactly the same player except Platt has good control for his size and wins a lot in the air. Both League 2 at best.

We are playing no worse than when we were smashing everyone before xmas, except we dont have a finisher.

I forgot that we won every single game 5-0 when McGoldrick was here and not won a single point or scored a goal since he left.

Must be where it all went wrong.

Clarke is League 2 at best yet has scored 16 goals so far this season playing in League 1?

Why!? Because he is shit and his productivity was minimal - even in L2!

Only 'kick and rush' fans could half like this guy as a footballer, no place for players like him in the modern game.

Was more productive than most in some games!

I reject that notion. He had less than 1 shot per match and less than 0.5 shots on target, with a grand total of 1 assist last season. Impotent is the word.

EDIT: has 17 shots in 26 games in L2, scoring 4, with 3 assists - in League 2! Shows how shit we were last season to have him starting.

Exactly ! - We don't have a striker capable of converting the chances produced. The evidence is clear for all to see. There's nothing complicated about it. Goals have dried up. Chances have increased.

How incorrect is that statement!

He doesn't have good control, and was no where near as good in the air or holding it up as Juke who was smaller and less physically imposing.

Clarke can finish, scores goals, Platt doesn't! Delusional pal.

Clarke League 2 at best!? He's the top goalscorer in the league! he's also scored 35 in 62 League 1 appearances (Thanks Grendel)

Think before you post, how embarrassing is your comment.

You're right. We'd never have lost to Yeovil if we had mcgoldrick -,or Scunthorpe, Shrewsbury, Stevenage, notts county.....

I have to defend Platini was only bought as an impact sub, by AB King Juke ROD would have been ahead of him, last year he played so much cos King left, Juke was sold halfway through the season and Cody was never really fit. What he lacked in ability he made up for in effort. did score some great goals last season against the hammers and the Tykes, was out of his depth in the championship but did seem to care more than most.

I recognise this is a sarcastic post by Grendel in response to our fans having a go at Clarke, he was poor yesterday but his goals to date ratio is good and has bought time with me also its not his fault that he is not DMG, we could not afford him, he's gone clarke is here accept it and move on.

Well thought out post

Nothing's changed on here then. Where would you be without your stats Grendel?

Was Emile Heskey picked by several top flight managers for his prolific goal scoring record?

Platt was added to the squad for his contribution to general play, namely the ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play. Something he was useful for when we were struggling to do just that.

You can't just continually overlook this in favour of the headline statistic. Although I'm sure you will...

Re the topic in hand, we have suffered on the goals front since DMC left but this isn't down to Clarke's inability per se, more that DMC had better movement and pace at the same time creating space for others. I think Otis posted a comment the other day which summed it up well.

No we just both have common sense. ;)

Haven't been on here for a while but NLHWC used to make a lot of good points so I'll take that as a compliment.

Nor has NLHWC been on for a while, yet both appear together again online like a gay couple in search of a wedding dress.

I just thought that you were both, as even with my somewhat cynical view of human nature and intelligence didn't believe that there could be two people so consistently wrong.

I knew that the mention of platt would bring Ginetta put of exile.

Sadly Ginetta never let's facts get in the way to make a statement.

Difference with Heskey the % win ratio was higher. We just kept losing.

Ginetta always blathers on about Platts ability to create assists for others. The official stats show one assist last season.

They do have CJ and psgm for competition though.

Even as a target man, and as the tallest man on the pitch, he looked seriously sub par. He was never signed as a first team regular, chiefly due to age-that he would be beaten consistently in the air by defenders a good few inches shorter is testament to this. In many ways he was like the manager who loved to pick him-high in effort, but absent in ability.

I'd even contest the effort he put in, he certainly lived up to his nickname 'the tree'.
