Robins Lucky Manager? (1 Viewer)

The facts are that while Mark Robins was in charge at Coventry he inherited a player
who went on to score 16 goals. Out of 13 home league games, they lost five games. Out of 24 league games played, four clean sheets were kept.
My son just a commented that it was a shame that we also lost the first
team coach. My response was that this is the same coach who was here
when the mighty Shrewsbury had SIXTEEN attempts on goal when being the
away team. Also the same coach/manager who set the team up against
Crewe to be open to the counter attack.
My question is, would any manager worth his salt done as good as, if not better
when in charge over the same period. Mark Robins lucky manager?

I don't see the point in trying to belittle his ability as manager. He did extremely well. What he did for the team isn't in question for me. It's what he said about sky blue blood, a long term vision etc etc and then begging the board to give him his move to huddersfield that is the issue with me.

For me it was not so much the faith he gave me on the pitch but the knowledge that some lazy bastards would get a boot if they didn't give 100%. liked his no nonense but what ever happened he shjould not have led us all to believe he would stay loyal (sky blue blood).. For that he is, and will always be a turd.

Robins seemed like a capable manager. Mind you, he should have done well with the squad that he had. I certainly don't feel like we have lost The Special One.

That is the point I was trying to make. We need to move on and not dwell too much on the past. Mark Robins made his decision and will have to live by that decision. I think it shows what a sorry state football is in just now, where money talks and supporters pretend that they are watching their players. When really we all know that they are waiting for a better offer to come their way.

Lets not get bitter MR has left, he was a good manager for us.

MR got the team playing, McG scored 1 in 4 under Shaw so MR got him playing tbf to him.

Robins was a good manager for City. Sad to see him go.

He hadn't even started to get his teeth in to us.

It is a silly thread, slating him now for his managerial ability only looks like sour grapes. He is a good manager, nothing more, nothing less.

People declare love for each other in marriage...of which loyalty is a key part. The statistics show that circumstances can overcome this loyalty - & that is ultimately what happened.

It is a silly thread. IMO we should be dignified in our reactions to past manager's success or failure. Yes - THINK "Hah!"...say nothing. Slagging-off &/or revelling in their demise is any or all of of the following: -
A. Childish
B. A loser's mentality
C. Likely to come back & bite your backside at some future point

Robins was easily the best manager we've had for ages, both said and did the right things, brought in good players and his system and tactics were spot on. In his eyes the move to HTFC was a promotion and everyone on here would have done exactly the same

Completely agree.

I think it's time to move on now and let the whole Robins thing go!!!

He's a good manager. Hope he fails at Huddersfield though. Even the best managers fail at some clubs they go to, Brian Clough wasn't good everywhere.

I just hope in future he isnt referred to as a 'successful' manager with us, as he never actually achieved anything here.

For anyone believing Robins is a highly skilled manager, you only have to look at how Wigan cut Huddersfield to pieces. Robins sides have ALWAYS had weak defences, just look at his selection of Reckord and how many games it took him to realise he wasn't up to the task!

How many previous managers been allowed 5 minutes extra time - Robins had a significant number.

How many times were City managers beneficiaries of dodgy offside positions?

Although city had a run, none of the games were played well. None of the games you could say city played outstandingly.

Far too often the side were steered out of the brown stuff by one player. Robins doesn't even have the excuse he wasn't backed, as he brought in in his 5 months at the club nearly a full starting lineup!

Will be so irionic with the ridiculous manner in which SiSU carried out their recruitment that it could be quite possible the REAL answer was under their nose all the time!

I suspect it wont be long before they realised they made a massive mistake.

And I for one will not have shed a single tear.

No he is a good manager who imposed his own style on us and brought in quite a few players to accomplish it.

The time to judge his efficacy at Huddersfield will be at the end of the season.

Good ?, Lucky ?, all adds up to the same thing really. We can't really complain about results away from home but for me the home form was pretty average, which suggests he had a problem setting the team up for home games. overall glad he was here but dissapointed he turned out to be a mercanary twat.

I don't think there's any doubt he completely turned the club around, most notably the overall attitude of the fans and players. The sort of 'fight til the game is won' attitude that we've has been lacking for so many years.

Was gutted to see him go, but was so glad to see Huddersfield get spanked today!

You can spin pretty much anything and call it luck. He was a good manager for us, it's still ok to say that.
