Cody McDonald will be League One's top goalscorer, says Andy Thorn

ANDY Thorn may be lining up a couple of strikers to boost Coventry City’s bid to bounce straight back to the Championship but he’s convinced he’s already got next season’s top scorer on his books.

The Sky Blues boss believes Cody McDonald will recapture the prolific form that saw him rattle in 25 goals on loan from Norwich at League Two Gillingham in 2010/11.

The 25-year-old Essex boy managed just four from 23 games in a less than ideal first season at the Ricoh Arena which he went into without a firm base fitness and was then disrupted by almost three months out with a knee injury.

But Thorn is backing his only outfield summer signing from last term to bounce back with a vengeance, insisting: “I’m looking at people like Cody, who will have a pre-season and he will be top goal scorer in League One – I have no doubt about that, I think he’ll score the most goals.

“He’s had so many chances to score goals and scored some as well but he’s going to be so much better for having a pre-season under his belt.

“The players need a break, to get away from it for a while, and I have told all of them that when they come back they have to come back with a positive mentality and a winning one for getting out of League One.

“Everything is set up for pre-season and we’ll take it from there.”

He might have if Thorn had stayed. People play better in different formations. He doesn't suit ours.

That's like saying it's Kevin Malaga's fault for conceding so many goals despite him not playing.

Not quite the same yes but still he didn't exactly play much after the first 8 games and if he did he was mainly a sub.

Exactly, didn't he score the same as mcsheffrey though?

Is this some sort of joke thread? What's thorn doing now besides feeding his fat face on any compensation he didn't deserve anyway?

have you been reading that PR page of his?

Unfair. Look at the marvellous additions he made to the squad last season. Poaching Jennings, Malaga, edjuingele, Barton, fleck etc was an act of scouting genius. He knows his strikers as well. Signed McDonald and as chief scout was here when we signed platt, Eastwood and O'donovan.

When McDonald storms the scoring charts with Gillingham next year Thorn will look like a veritable soothsayer. Then Real Madrid will hire him.

Are you saying Fleck and Barton were bad signings? I think you haven't a clue!

A manager signs players with a view of how they will fit in their system. How did the likes of Barton and Fleck do when they did get a game.

A new manager comes he may not think that player suits his system.

Amazing how the same sad people defend the indefensible. Any sensible observer will conclude he was unfit for purpose. Any credibility you have diminishes when you defend him. Why do it?

Bit overly nasty isn't it, you miserable SISU loving C U Next Tuesday?

Are yes another thorn lover, shall we resurrect some old threads. At least fisher puts a shift in. The fat lazy pig you worshipped couldn't even be bothered to attend training sessions half the time. Got paid by sisu every week though.

A shift of bullshitting and killing a football club.

What bizarre opinions you have.

I'm sure fisher wishes he kept him.

When the going got tough at a forum he could have wheeled him out from the buffet and got him to give a cheery wave.

You'd be begging for more.

Rather have Thorn that Peter Reid or Gary McAllister.

Loved the style of play - and the results until your SISU mates got rid of our strikers.

The results were nothing to shout about pre 11/12 and those obtained during 11/12 were humiliating. The quality of football was atrocious and I curse myself for blowing hundreds of pounds on tickets and trains to watch it.

He will never find employment in professional management ever again.

Have to agree about AT BSB. But if there is just chaos and incompetence off the pitch there will inevitably be chaos and incompetence on it, no matter who the manager is.

it is funny that the most rabid anti-sisu posters are also the ones who were the most 'pro-thorn'.they wouldn't have got away with it at any club, it's hardly a surprise they think the fans are mugs. As i have always said, surely they should offer some appreciation for giving us such a great manager?

Exactly. The buck stops with the employer.
Thorn did his best and that was pretty shit but if you tie a brick to a frog it probably won't swim.
The idiots that kept banging on about how "shit" he was.
Not the brightest is it, banging on about the obvious?
Predictable and thick.

All the Sisu-rent boys loved Thorn, only people who would give him a job.

All you Thorn fans should go back to sucking Fishers cock now.
