I know this is not popular with everyone but after Fishers comments Today seemingly confirming we will never play within the city of Coventry again (near Coventry is not good enough for me, if I wanted near Coventry I would support Nuneaton), the time has come to start again.

It breaks my heart but if CCFC are not in Coventry they cannot be Coventry for me. We, the fans, are the club and we can continue our proud tradition under a new club.

If there's going to be a new club it needs to start from the basics up. Creating some generic template crap CMS website like that doesn't help make the issues clear. Start with a manifesto that a large majority of CCFC fans agree with, and then draw up a plan of action from there. We don't need forums, video uploads, blogs, web shops and all that.

Sadly, I agree. The only way to get rid of SISU now is COMPETITION. I posted on another thread that protests are not working and will probably tail off. My ideal would be for Haskell to buy the Ricoh and fund a Pheonix club playing there. If anyone knows a better way let them share it ? SISU will fund Sixfields even if no supporters turn up !

I'm in! There's no point in waiting around for 5years probably longer for us to return to near coventry. Someone needs to take charge and just form the club get people on board to help but go ahead, your never going to get everyone agreeing so there's no point in trying to.

The name is great really like Coventry 1883 the process needs to start now in order to start next season.

They have been quite clear for some time about not coming back to Coventry. You can wait for as long as you want. You are not interested, that is fine, no one is forcing you. You will be welcome whenever the time is right for you.

From what I have seen I'd say the answer is no.
Reading the posts on here over the past few months in regards to this we have.
No, I'm going egg chasing.
No, I'm going shopping,
No, I'll follow another local team,
Yes, I might go up now and again.
Yes, I will go up until CCFC returns to the Ricoh.
Yes, I will go until SISU builds the new stadium near Coventry.
Yes, I'll go and then when SISU Utd are ready the new club can be replaced by SISU Utd and we will be CCFC once more.
Plus lots of other ideas in between.
Lets be quite clear on this. If a new club is formed, that's what it will be. A new club, not a branch of CCFC, not a club to fold as soon as this horrible mess is sorted, but a whole new club.
As angry as a lot of us are about the situation in the cold light of day I don't think enough fans are ready to break that link from CCFC, not yet anyway.

I know it doesn't look likely right now. But one or two 'home' games may illustrate just how low the crowds will sink at Northampton. The Colchester one in particular. I do think the total crowd for that will slip under 1,000. It may focus minds.
It may be the misguided people who continue to stick their heads in the sand & who attend Northampton will realise the futility of it all, the eerie, empty experience, they'll drift away. Professional football, after all, is about crowds, passion and whathaveyou, not evident at Northampton. It won't be 5-4 every week.
When Sisu have to prop up pathetic finances it might hit them.
Preston Haskell isn't in Coventry for his health. There are obviously talks going on.
I'm waiting for the Sky Blue Trust to show us their strategy for coming weeks.
Is the CCFC Ladies game a focus?
I don't want to have to start a new CCFC, I'd like to rescue our existing team. But if we have to I'm sure we'll organise a new team in plenty of time for next season and take back our history while we're at it. And drive SISU Cobblers out of existence.
I heard Fisher on the radio this morning. Same old, same old.
With pitiful crowds the FA may step in (don't laugh). Keep our unity against Sixfields and it may yet work.

If people want an alternative, I don't see why they don't get behind an existing team like Sphinx - a team with actual history and no cynical motive hurriedly put together to prey on the emotions of angry fans.

Funnily enough, I started working on doing that before realising I just don't have time for it. I don't meant to be taking a dump on anyone's hard work, but if you're going to gather people to the cause you have to go about it in a focused fashion.

Nothing will happen immediately anyway. Can't start until next season but things should be in place by the new year IMO.

The simple fact of football being fun again and the sheer defiant act of 'this is our club and we are taking it back' would be a powerful motivating force.
As I said, there is still time to resolve it now. I'd say Christmas is the cut off point. After that, if a new CCFC is to be formed, (and taking back our history) it has to be done then in time for next season.
But I'd like the Trust to spell out what they are going to do?

Mark, to start a new club that will be a success will take lots of hard work and lots of commitment, not just short term but long term.

It's early days yet, these last few weeks have really shown that the fans are united in getting Coventry back in Coventry and I think we've surprised a few people by our numbers. It's the most upbeat I've felt in a long time.

What's the difference? It's transferring allegiance however it's dressed up. It's nothing to do with taking them over, if they ended up as the team representing the city at a higher level that's pretty much what people are looking for with all these multitude of 'phoenix' clubs surely.

A reborn CCFC has to be a contingency plan. With the express aim of rapid promotions and playing at the Ricoh (or if needs be a Coventry venue until the numbers grow sufficiently to play at the Ricoh.????)

We're on the Same side here. I can't argue with any point you have made. My only concern (at this moment in time) is that it's too early. Yesterday was a watershed. At this moment in time the Trust are fully behind keep Coventry in Coventry. I really do think SISU/ Otium are on the back foot and we must explore all avenues to get a deal done to bring CCFC home. If that fails...

The difference is that Sphinx don't represent me as a CCFC fan. The new club would as in my eyes it would be more of a continuation of Coventry City than a club outside of Coventry with that name. It's quite simple, I don't see what you don't get about it.

Do you think any fans of the various clubs who have gone under and been reborn feel like they've transferred allegiance? I doubt it. I also suspect that with a strong campaign in the city and serious backing a large majority of fans would prefer to support the new club.

I still feel like the various conversations that are happening about a new club are lacking in focus here, though. Lots of people are sceptical about it working (which is fine, nothing is guaranteed) or being a good idea (also, there's no way of knowing it it really is the best path yet), but I think we ought to start polling for the most important things that fans want to see in a new club. The values of the club, how it's organised (we don't want to ever find ourselves in this situation again, do we?), how to finance it etc. etc. I would still prefer the club to be named ‘City of Coventry Football Club’ rather than ‘Coventry 1883’, for example, but I'm sure that's nowhere near as important for everyone.

So how about that — focus on adding your tuppence on what you'd like in a new club, rather than debating if it should/could even happen?

I agree with what you say. The option needs to stay at the forefront though if only as a means of applying further pressure. Also, we don't want to rush things so things such as name, logo, etc can be looked at and ready to vote on when we get to crunch time later in the year / early next year.

No one is saying drop the fight. It is a contingency plan but its looking more likely to have to be a reality.

you need a buyer for the the Ricoh first
then you need fans to turn up to financially support it
buy the players out contract from the old club
Sisu's golden ticket wont be worth much if they slide further down the leagues maybe players values will fall if they "suffer a loss of form" making them cheaper for the new club to buy

Spionkop, yes their has been discussions and groundwork done on a number of scenarios, hence the recent vote for rule change. But the focus has to be on Coventry playing in Coventry until we (members and fans) honestly believe that that is a hopeless cause.

I don't have a problem with it being in the coventry area to be honest. Just outside is fine. It could even end up being closer to Earlsdon than the Ricoh.
I do have a problem with it being Sisu planning it.
