Should never have signed the bloke, just another sign of the moral degradation of SISU.

More so than not paying an inflated rent.

I think at the time, selfishly enough, I was glad we signed a decent strike and "big" name. I thought that it might be the start of us picking up again. I was gutted and hated him for leaving after we gave him his second chance.

I know he was a c**t, but he was our c**t.

I'd rather he'd been somebody else's c**t rather than ours.

People who beat up women should never be afforded hero status, and unfortunately we had far too many who lauded that

Completely agree. Should be allowed back anywhere near our club.

Thing is its one of those "where do you draw your line?" Dilemmas for me.

People are happy to buy records & pay to watch bands that sing about beating women up..&/or taking drugs...&/or doing gansta type stuff. thats what he's done innit??? So general society it's like acceptable to be notorious....but not for a footballer?
Lots of conflict between football & real life aren't there?

Fiction isn't the same as reality.

Taken the wrong step with your allegory there.

Oh, I agree. I definitely felt uncomfortable supporting him, but I wanted the team to do well. I justified it as he had done his time, he was remorseful and glad for a second chance to just get on with life. As I said, it was definitely selfish of me to think like that; I cared about my club more than I did an assault victim (I never took part in the various Marlon chants) and looking back, I'm not proud of that or that I actually tried to defend him. I wish I hadn't, but I got caught up in what looked to be a potential turning in the clubs fortune at a time when the city was all I really had going for me.

This hit and run just goes to prove all that wrong. He didn't care about his club or fans and more importantly, he still doesn't care about anyone but himself. Truly, a c**t.

Chris Brown/Rhianna, Bobby Brown/Whitney Huston, Amy Winehouse, Ozzy Osborne, John Bonham...I think that covers enough much-famed celebrities over enough generations - reality enough?

What the fuck has that got to do with people cheering a woman beater at the club?

Can't stand anybody who does, whatever their job.

i think what lordsummerisle is trying to say that the music you are talking about in the vast majority of cases is social commentary rather than promotion of a life style. for example: white lines by grandmaster it not saying take cocaine its saying DONT take cocaine, cop killer by body count (not ice t as is often stated) is about the anger that was felt by black americans after Rodney King was beaten to a pulp by 2 LA cops who didn't realise that they were being filmed, this event also was the catalyst for the LA riots where Mr King made a public plea for the riots to stop asking "why cant we just get on"

Marlon is a convicted women beater, that means he did it and there was enough evidence to prove this and convict him. to my knowledge he never shown any remorse and still protested his innocence eventually dropping his appeal (shitsu take note).

that's a big differance

I think the basis of his "appeal" was that it was somebody else wearing the same hat who did it!

Without going into detail about the ethics too much...Amy Winehouse was a known drug abuser, people bought her records. Chris Brown beat up Rhianna...people still buy his music & watch him in concert. Just because King is a footballer doesn't make the crime any worse or better.
Hence the moral dilemma for some...but not all.

The actual music or songs is irrelevant

unfortunately i know someone quite well who did the same thing and he still maintains it wasn't his fault and she "set" him up, the basis for this was because she had time to dial 999 before the beating started and the whole event was recorded by the operator and provided as evidence in the court case.

then why bring it up in the 1st place?

Well, perhaps the mere topic in some minds is enough for many to consider it promoting the actual act by association. The same doesn't seem to work with literature/art in the form of pictures though - Stephen King isn't accused of promoting murder & mayhem in books, nor are artists in their paintings.

Why would this be any different to why the signing of MK was opposed ?

If opposed to King on the grounds of being a woman beater, then would be opposed to anybody who was of course.

Think that anybody who thought strongly about these matters wouldn't see their morals fluctuate based on the quality of the player.

Stephen King however has killed generations of children in his home town, but because he wears a clown suit he seems to get away with it.

Wouldn't recommend staying in his hotel either to be fair.
