Want To Worry SISU (7 Viewers)

Steal their fanbase before they get going, before they have built the new ground, they will build one.
I hate the idea, but getting a new team up and running for next season seems to me the only logical way to put the frighteners on them.
3-5yrs is SISUs remit, that means a team needs to be up running and doing well in that time. up and running possible, successful maybe, look at AFC Wimbledon, or take Leamington, something like 8 promotions in 10 season without going backwards. A team up and running gets a promotion or 2 in the time to build the ground would get fans interested, in 5 years from now it is feasable that a new team could be in or very close to the position we are in now, low league/conference. It would have to well run and reasonably well financed to attract the right staff/players, with the right structure in place it could be a winning team and drawing the fans in.

A pipe dream for some, a dream for others, but whichever way you look at it SISU will follow thru with their plans, a Coventry City playing outside Coventry even if its oly 6 miles is a scary thought and a reality, steal the fanbase before they get settled.

No im not coming round to a replacement team, but a new team in Coventry doing well has stolen their potential fanbase, surely they would have to give it some serious thought and treat it as a serious threat to their plans. Simple really

Flame suit on :)

Edit, im CCFC thru and thru, money is their motivator take away the potential for them to make money, no fans no money, another spin on NOPM

Pathetic!
CUFC already exists!
You can't buy history or the FA cup win!
Do you get bored easily? New partner/home/job on a regular basis?

But in what way is the current CCFC the same club as Singers FC established in 1883?

And also there's no need to make insulting remarks about the OP.

No no no and no. A breakaway club will just further divide the fanbase, a Phoenix club is only an option if ccfc ceases to exist or permanently moves from the Coventry area.

It took Wimbledon 9 years to get to league two.

We already have CUFC, sphinx and copsewood, plus a large proportion of fans come from outside of cov so have local teams like nuneaton, Bedworth and leamington to turn to.

Of course it's the same team, singers was just part of the journey.

Its a different name, different ltd company, different ground, different owners, different town!

The only way it is the same club is the collective will of the fans. I'm not yet in favour of a new club, but to say it would be the same club is nonsense.

The club is whatever the fans feel it is.

Put it this way, is Rangers the same club they were 10 years ago?

So what happens if sisu do build a new ground and it's not in Coventry. I still don't think I could support another ccfc...whatever sisu do to it.it will always be my club.

That's different, if ccfc ceases to exist or move permanently from the Coventry area then that's when we should consider a Phoenix club.

But which fans, how many fans? What if 50% fans recognised ccfc and 50% recognised the new club? Which would be ccfc?

Rangers ceased to exist, that's completely different to the OP, which suggests doing it in competition to ccfc.

If singers had nothing to do with us, why did 6k fans turn up to celebrate our 130 year anniversary?

No team will ever be Coventry City, SISU will stick with their agenda, there seems to be a few people on here who are for a replacement club, some go so far as to wish the current team to lose and still claim to be CCFC fans. This was a suggestion for them, the people that think not going to support at Sixfields will affect SISUs long term plans. I cant see anything other than the threat of having no fans supporting a team playing 5-6 miles from Coventry having an impact on them and their goals.

Its Keep Coventry in Coventry, not close to Coventry.

IMO if they permanently base themselves outside of Coventry (somewhere near Coventry isn't good enough for me) then they are no longer the same CCFC that I grew up supporting. Therefore to me any new club would be the continuation of Coventry City FC.

I agree that we are the same club as Singers, just as any potential breakaway/phoenix club would be.

In the eyes of business law, the CCFC playing at Northampton is as much to do with Singers as some club that could be set up playing at the Butts next season.

Ccfc in the eyes of many has already been killed off.!

Going to NTFC was the last straw.

Be impossible for anybody associated with that decision to claw back credibility amongst those who no longer attend matches.

They were warned.

A few hundred may feel the same but I would bet most would still support CCFC. Your club would have none of the history, it would be a totally new club so wouldn't be a continuation of Coventry City. As cited in my other post, there are quite a few teams who are not actually based in their own town. Some worse than others. I went up North for my holidays in August and wanted to see Scarborough - I went there in the 90's when we lost in the League Cup. When I tried to find the ground I was told that it was no longer there and that the team now play in Bridlington. On the face of it the Ricoh is hardly in Coventry, is it?

Whilst not in the towns themselves, they are all within the same district's as the places they take their names from.

From Stanley to Seppala.
Different name/Town/Strip/players & monatary value.
Seppala is still worth more & has a cup win that Stanley never had.
Willie Stanley was the founder! Amen

Of course it is. Is Hen Lane not in Coventry, is Longford Rd not in Coventry?

And Stanley had dignity and respect. That is something the cold hearted cow will never have.

Brighton's stadium is six miles from the City centre. Leamington's is around five miles from the town centre. They still have good support and I'm sure Coventry City would have too. Only a minority wouldn't go.

Brightons stadium comes under Brighton and Hove authority, where Leamington play comes under Warwick district (the same as the rest of the town), Grimsby also play in the same district as the rest of the town.

Any of the surrounding boroughs are not Coventry.

Why is coventry air port not in the borough?

Well, there will always be something, won't there? We've had "if it's X amount of miles away", "If it's not a CV whatever postcode" and now "it's not in the district".

Some will always have an excuse. I hope you and your new team will be very happy together.

How many cities are there the size of Coventry without a team within the boundaries?

The teams you quote play outside the town because they are small places and there is limited space for stadiums.

How many clubs build a ground outside their city because of a disagreement with the local authority?

Exactly, if the ricoh was a mile further it wouldn't be in the borough. Council borders change, just because it is outside the council line doesn't mean it's not Coventry. Common sense needs to be applied.

Highfield Road was once on the outskirts of Cov too!

There's a difference between being on the outskirts and being in a different town.
