So, a very mild night against the league leaders, with vastly reduced ticket prices and still only 1600 City fans turn up.

People are remaining steadfast and the only answer is for the club to get back to Coventry sharpish. There are never going to be the numbers at Northampton to make this thing sustainable.

2300 ish. Looked right from my view

Expect the official site to reveal that it was actually 500 more than that imminently

Orient's end was pretty full. West Stand looked fairly full, 2 other sides not open. My ticket was for the North Stand but they decided not to open it up because of how few tickets had been sold - not informed of this until after I had traipsed round the ground to find a non-existent open turnstile.

the guy on the CWR last night stopped just short of saying that the attendance figure was a total fabrication.. but not far short

They've got nothing to gain from overestimation though, have they? Wouldn't they have to pay more tax?

I have to admit though I was surprised how many they said were there.

to be fair they have.. they are constantly pitching their advertising that "its ok to come to sixfields.. loads of other people are doing it.. come and support your team etc" so they want those numbers to sound as healthy as they can.. and turnover is not something they declare on the night, so they can justify reduced turnover with discount packages, corporate, freebies etc

as i say, the guy on CWR "chocked on his cornflakes" when he declared the attendance

I think they're likely to overcount for PR reasons, as above when it comes to declaring income I suspect they'll tell a different story to the taxman. Not in itself illegal, I'd guess, all part of SISU's game.

SISU - Just get us the fuck back in Coventry so we can stop talking about shit like this and just watch our team! Aaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It did look like 2300, the main stand, which we were in, holds 4000 and it was about half full, so 1600 cov fans did seem accurate.

I think the point rests on how many of the ST holders and freebies attended. Their tickets being counted cost the club nothing because they've been "sold".

Unfortunately, without solid numbers of amount of free tickets/ST holders we can't have a sensible discussion about it.

About that, what do they mean by "funding"? Funding us back to where we would be at the Ricoh? Covering any losses? Ensuring we don't sell players?

Would be a good question for someone to put to the club.

I dunno, kind of hard to say "we're in it for the long term, we need a successful club" then not confirm you're willing to keep the current successful team together.

A friend of mine told me this morning that the attendance figure was roughly correct.

I don't think the numbers they announce are the numbers that get used for tax purposes which dates back to the days before electronic entry where they had to do a manual count through the gate.

That means they could, if they wanted to, give out a totally made up figure. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between and that all non attending freebies and season ticket holders are being counted. That's probably only a few hundred but on a small attendance makes a big % difference.

The other thing we have no way of knowing is how many neutrals are turning up because we're playing well and it's cheap.

At the end of the day we're never going to know for sure but worth nothing we are still well below Tim Fishers worst case scenario despite cutting ticket prices and being in the best form we've had for years.

Thousand upon thousand of City fans are being deprived of being able to watch probably the best team we've had in years play at home and that is nothing short of a tragedy.

Never understand the desperation of some to disbelieve an attendance figure like that.

Some people have a fixation with counting. People used to regularly post how many were on the hill exactly at certain times, I wouldn't put it past people to start doing their own counts of fans.

You forget nick that some here brand them muppets ...so one of them must be the Count ..who likes to count

Is it really so difficult to see why it matters how many City fans attend Sixfields?

We all want a successful team and so normally we want the club's revenue to be maximised to fund that. We'd also usually be proud of decent gates.

What is different this year is that the owners have moved Coventry City out of Coventry claiming they were forced to do so. Knowing how much most fans would resent this they need to try and convince that they have no choice and a big part of their hoped for argument would have been that many fans understood that and supported their drastic action. So gates of 7000 as mooted would have gone a long way to justify such a claim. They would have asserted that once accounting for travel difficulties and a few hundred extremists most of the support was with them.

The fewer who attend the harder that case is to make out. The reality is that despite what is almost certainly our best start to a season in any division for decades, together with attractive football and low prices only a maximum of 1600 are prepared to go to Northampton, 35 miles away, whilst thousands will go the Port Vale, Wolverhampton and Milton Keynes. If it is also the case that the 1600 is inflated by free tickets and local interest then the fact that the overwhelming majority of Coventry supporters abhor the move cannot be concealed.

I actually thought it was going to be a little (not alot) higher than that last night.

Seemed much busier than the Gillingham game (last one I managed to get to) but there was only an extra 300 odd people.

and people, stop says you've been deprived of going.. your not going by your own personal choice.

So why desperately try to undermine the figure?

If I said that really, it looked like there were more there than the announced attendance, would my view be given weight?
