yes I remember him very well from the early seventies up to the nineties. His smile and sheepskin were a regular feature in the west end. He was a leader of the west end and a well known face as they say

remember us taking over 10,000 to Millwall, when their avge gate was 3,000,
crowd announced at 13,000 +, & Ronnie Farmer missed his first pen in years,
Jimmy Hills Sky Blue Army,
those days are not long gone, but merely deferred, despite the efforts of a 'hedge regime',
the phoenix, can & will rise from the ashes of our current problem,
the great pretenders will, i hope, find new pastures,

I remember him, again think I saw someone like him not long ago. Red house group coaches, were the ones he used if I remember correct. 1 trip that stands out was Norwich then into great yarmouth after, late seventies, ended up in Tiffany's on the front and it kicked off in the toilet with some local marshal arts type. I'm not a trouble maker, but had the marks on my face for weeks after.:facepalm: Missed the coach back and had to Hitch hick back the next day. Took 16 hrs at least!!!

I remember a Cov fan called Happy from way back when, who used to get pointed out to me when I was about 16 in the mid seventies. If it's the same guy, I never realised he was any sort of 'bootboy' - but then, never really knew a lot of the Cov troublemakers. I used to go to a fair few games by coach from Leamington and have some great memories of Burnley away 3-3, followed by mayhem in Blackpool, Norwich away (always a favourite) when some of their fans came into the Cov section looking for trouble, but City fans were dancing to 'Oh what a night' by Frankie Valli, ignored them, and so they left, just looking confused. Luton away after we had just sold Colin Stein (I think?) in the age of nicking silk scarves off opposition fans. Often a bit edgy away from home, but loved it all the same. Happy days (sic!)

Maurice is still about in Cheylesmore, I see him quite often, shaved all his hair off the last time I saw him.
I used to buy the Pink off him at the Station, on the way back from away games.

Remember Happy well. Used to go on his coach with a mate in the late 70s Stopping at a pub on the way and again on the way back! I was only 16/17 at the time! Didn't get involved with any boot boys although I seem to recall that not everyone always got the coach back (prob got arrested!!) Fairly certain Happy died a few years ago.

I know what "Pink" you meant, it was me who said I used to buy it, it was an attempt at humor.
I used to read it from cover to cover and then start again, I was devasted when they stopped production.

In its day it gave great coverage of all local sports. How often after a good City away performance were you stood in the local newsagents with a group of men with shuffling feet. Everyone waiting for the Telegraph van to arrive with the delivery. People paying up before it arrived. The pile dumped on the floor the string cut and loads of hands grabbing a copy.
I used to go home and read it until Match of the Day started.

They used to sing 'happy is our leader' happy is our leader' nah nah nah but he was not a leader just a jovial character that sadly died a few years back.I remember at Derby away when it kicked off with the old bill and Happy returned a helmet to a copper and although was not involved was frog marched away with the whole Cov crowd singing his name
Yes, used to stand outside the paper shop in Potters Green waiting for them to turn up.
