Just been told from within the club that they WILL be building the new stadium. Council will not sell and talks have finished.

this must be the same source from within the club that told me timmy steals joy diversions underwear whenever he visits her house and then when he's home alone he prances about his house wearing said stolen underwear while screaming "you must respect my authoritor"

When you read stuff like this as a Coventry City fan, your emotions get in the way and cloud what is blindingly obvious to a neutral. No stadium will e.v.e.r be built. SISU can identify as many plots of land as they wish (to put the frighteners on you) and they can get outlined planning permission for as many bestest everest stadiums as they like. The small matter of acquiring 30/40/50 £million and spending it with investor guarantees (on a fractured club) remains an insurmountable problem.

So you agree a new stadium won't happen, but actively encourage setting up an AFC Coventry?

Stupot, no one is actually saying start up a new team, we are trying to say lets consider the idea, go down the correct route and see what happens, we can always back out. However, we have to find out more, no harm in that is there, we could be in DIv 2 before any new stadium is built?

Liking the idea of Gaydon though. Next to the M40, people can pop in the Heritage Motor Centre before a game, Harbury's got a folk club for pre-match entertainment...

V, they are building a major HS2 station round there. I think a likely site is somewhere in the SE corner of the triangle formed by the M42, A45 & A452.

Couldn't be there as Stonebridge golf club is there which runs into Packington Fishery. Further down is a river which continually bursts its banks so you can rule out squeezing it in there with HS2 and associated businesses. Cannot see any way forward for Sisu/Otium if this Review goes tits up for the scumbags. Which way can they then turn, this mythical new ground will take at least 7 years and by then with FFP, piss poor attendances and their lack of solid investment where will we be, that is what concerns me most. If they say fuck it, we've had enough, I can only see this ending badly. Hope I'm wrong but these fuckers seem to be some of the most stubborn and pig headed morons to have ever has tried to run football club. Still at least the football league and FA will help us out, surely.................

Just the notion of an AFC Coventry or CCFC 1883 will put the wind up Sisu.
We have to be a bit more proactive as supporters.
To be honest it is getting to the stage of I'd rather I supported a team playing in our city under one of the above names in Conference North.
Even if this stadium got built we know Sisu would saddle the club with debt, high rents, the usual money accounts musical chairs they do.
I'll be at the away game Saturday, but it is weird these days supporting City. It's like they're my team - but they're not.
To reiterate - an advanced plan to enter a newly formed team next season would change thinking. It might be the Butts, it might be a little ground at Allard Way. It could be the Ricoh. And don't anyone start piling in with - who's going to pay for it - do nothing claptrap.
AGAIN - just developed plans for a new club - would change the landscape. Think about it. Don't think with your hearts. Think with your head.
I love this club as much as anyone - 50+ years. But we've got to think ahead.
We're letting Sisu dictate and call the tune.

Stuart Linnell's opinion is worth no more than anyone else's as he doesnt know anything.
There is no future for SISU at our club as despite Tim's claim that we would all be back after 3 games his customer base has left. Three or five years down the line with a new stadium they would be in the same position as the Ricoh is now - new stadium with no club. The only question now is whether when they give this farce up will they take the club with them or not. Their investment has gone and might as well accept it.

There may be "plans" - all very fancy like Rotherham but there isnt a site. I think it is fantasy to think/hope that SISU are building a new ground.

The land there wouldn't be too expensive yet. Possibly look at taking over the Solihull Moors for the ground? Or would they be our new local rivals .........

Definitely think its a half decent shout pointing out that area. Would be perfect for sisu to re-develop the area now, and reap the benefits later.

I cant work out why they need a football club if they want to take advantage of re development opportunities. The Coventry City brand is about as toxic as it get which is why they cant get a sponsor etc. So why do they need the football club to take advantage of re develpment opportunities. Id be grateful for an answer off anyone

Think about it. Sisu need a location for a football stadium. Why not make as much money as they can? Buy the land, lease some land out to retailers, build a hotel, build a football stadium. All of which is located next to a main road, an international airport, and a high speed railway line. It is a council/business dream surely?

Obviously not that easy, but you get the idea .......

I've said this before, but they'll be telling their investers who probably know absolutely nothing about football, that they 'could' be 2 years away from a £100 million Premier League windfall, and that's just to begin with. Premier league money/sponsorship is insane. We know this won't happen, but there is still the smallest possibilty. That's worth plowing in another £3 million or so if you've got the cash. Purely playing the odds for an individual, it's worth it. Saying that, how long can this go on?

And that's purely on the football side of things. There is money to be made. It's just unfortunate that the current bunch appear to be a massive set of gimps.

When you sit and do the sums
Anything but either the council/Higgs selling ACL and the entire Ricoh for about 10 million.
Or
A long term rent deal with a view and getting in range of the championship play offs then sell the lot recouping your investment.

Are the only two scenarios where SISU would not lose out.

Building a stadium does not fit in.

They are still going for plan A. It won't happen and us poor buggers have to wait for them to stumble onto plan B

I understand the point, but not why it is necessary to own a football club to build a retail site, hotel etc. And I particualrly dont understand why they need a football club which is and will continue to cost them money where they have lost the goodwill of the supporter many of whom I suspect will not return while they are the owners. I can only conclude that they will never build a new stadium because it makes zero economic sense as the football club they run has no value. In the three to five years it would take to build a stadium the value of the club will not have increased without promotion. That is not likely to happen without investment and they are not going to invest anymore (assuming anyone thinks they ever have)

Just seen Hill 83 post. Invest £3m to get promotion fair enough - invest £30m or whatever it is in a stadium makes no sense. Should have invested the £3m when we were in the Championship its much too late now

I see what you are saying, and I agree. However my post was based on Sisu doing what they say and if they are going to do what they say, it makes sense to try and get as much as they can out of it.
