Why a new ground is the fair way forward (24 Viewers)

Many, many posters on here proclaim that ACL and the council do not need the football. Many, many posters claim the club being at the Ricoh is a handicap.

Lots of other events could take place in the arena. Big truck racing (whatever that is) Northampton saints or Saracens rugby club, international show jumping, all year round rock concerts. Many believe that the facility souls outdo the NEC without the millstone of a football club. Apparently its worth many more millions than the club could afford and is a gold mine with the potential of new hotels. Again sure we are selfish to deny these scores of investors queuing for a piece of the action.

The backdrop to this is a council struggling to meet budgets and predictions of local service cuts and redundancies. So, surely the solution is obvious. The council identifies suitable sites in the city. It could sell unwanted land generating revenue and jobs while the Ricoh thrives as everyone says it will without the football club

Joy wont work with Coventry Council. The daft cow has made that perfectly clear.

Broadly speaking though, I wouldn't be against them building another ground within the city, provided it was in a sensible location. If they want to waste millions on a pointless ground then so be it.

Playing in Coventry should be their priority.

Well we all want that but none of us own the Football Club so we may all want that but have no action over it.

It seems to be an obvious thing for the council to do. If they offered suitable sites FL rules would make it very difficult for sisu to buy more costly land elsewhere.

The OP offers a very fair solution actually. If it's all about offering the everyday Coventry taxpayer the best deal, and making sure they don't get diddled, what's not to like in his suggestion?

I don't think any of us know whether they can afford it. I would imagine that hedge funds differ wildly in value, and this one doesn't seem to be that good at being one, but time will tell in the end.

I would have thought they can make money on their own yes, but presumably would make even more if the club were playing there.

I don't think any of us know whether they can afford it. I would imagine that hedge funds differ wildly in value, and this one doesn't seem to be that good at being one, but time will tell in the end.

I may need to go and have a lie down as I have been saying this sort of thing for some time.

I suspect I won't be popular for this but.....

Right Tim said that the eagle had flown, we've moved on and we weren't going back to the Ricoh. So how about we don't, ACL said that they can cope without us so let them Sisu are going to build us their own stadium. It's only three years (okay could be five) at Northampton but SISU are covering the costs of that so fans don't have to go into Sixfields if they don't want to. The team are doing well with limited support at Sixfields and would obviously get more support at

However this way we're not going to have to be beholden to anyone over F&B revenue or car parking or anything, the club would get all the revenues. Yes SISU would probably have ownership of the stadium and charge rent but is that any different from being at the Ricoh and ACL?

Also we can then stop talking about ACL and the bloody council.

So all we have to do is stay strong for a few years and we'll be back in or very near Coventry at our own stadium.

If Joy doesn't want to go back to the Ricoh as a tenant of the council then that's fine she owns the club and she can effectively do what she likes with it. So if she wants to build a stadium to bring us back to Coventry then fine they should get on with it and not hang around as we will lose supporters each season we are not in the city (or close to). The fact that since I posted that thread in August we've seen nothing concrete (pun not intended) is worrying but not a calamity if they actually get their collective arses in gear and announce where we're building etc.

The fact that ACL are according to PWKH doing better is great for them but obviously SISU are not interested in going back to the Ricoh except as owners and well you know the rest of that. Don't see why the council need to sell but apart from that get on with our new stadium please.

So Tim, Mark and Joy where are the plans for the New Stadium and when can we see them please?​

Simple. Coventry fans don't want a 12000 seater stadium that will mean we give up any ambition of Premier League.
Even Sisue don't really want it. A loyal few keep fighting their corner for them but they just provide something for us to laugh at and chastise.
Just do the figures, get back to the Ricoh and work on a relationship that will get the desired ownership and income.
Give up on your goal of using the club to make your money. In fact do us all a favour and fcku off.
