Have only posted on here once but read posts on a daily basis. My personal view is I think we need to move forward and not dwell over what’s been going on for the past few years.
Here are my thoughts….. should CCFC not agree a deal to move back to the Ricoh within the next couple of months then Tim et al need to present firm plans on the new stadium well in advance of the 2014/2015 season. Should these firm plans demonstrate the precise location of the stadium, capacity, transport links etc. then I would certainly consider buying a few 2014/2015 season tickets to watch the team at Sixfields.
My biggest concern at present is the lost generation of support base. My son is 9 and nephew is 12 and both of them have been season ticket holders for the past few years. My nephew now supports Spurs (ironic I know) but fortunately my son feels some strange sort of allegiance to CCFC. If things continue the way they are then there will shortly be even less Cov kids wearing Cov tops over at the Memorial Park, Allesley Park, Caludon Park etc.
So in summary….. should the Ricoh return not happen, then CCFC need to come up with a definitive stadium plan to control the risk of losing a generation of supporters. Admittedly this will not fully address the risk, due to Sixfield’s limited stadium capacity and fan’s personal views about playing in Northampton, but at least we may have a few more youngsters actively supporting Cov should parents etc. hold similar views to mine. But if we keep going round in circles, constantly bombarded with politics and suffering from a deeply divided fanbase, then the average age of the supporter will be about 45-50 by the time we return to Cov (or somewhere nearby).
The club needs to take action, and if they do and the stadium plans are reasonable from a fan’s point of view, then I’ll be at Sixfields for a few seasons.
Please note: I am not saying my view is the correct view, I’m merely hoping parents etc. who have taken kids to the Ricoh over the past couple of years and are currently not taking them to “home” games (yes, I fall into this category) may consider taking younger supporters to Sixfields once matters start to move in the right direction. In addition, a few us all could also reduce the amount of time currently spent watching Jeff Stelling, Tommo etc. on Saturday afternoons (or being dragged to the shops) and actually cheer the boys on and have a drink before, during and after the game then fall asleep watching X-Factor.
