We know they are only checking once a year which will be between seasons. If, as seems likley, by the first check there are no plans, site purchased or planning permission applied for something must be done by the league surely?

Just to go back to the planning issues for Exhall. SISU's project is ultimately for a 25,000 seater-stadium, so presumably they'll want to make sure that they get planning permission for something that size. In itself, that makes things harder.

Worse though, far worse than that, they've said that selling part of the development for retail is a key part of the funding. So you're trying to get permission for not just a stadium, but also for a large retail development. This on green belt land, where there is generally a presumption against development except for exceptional circumstances. Regardless of the stadium, there's hardly an exceptional need for another large retail park in this area, given what already exists nearby on the Ricoh site (which seemingly itself has scope for further retail development).

It's an absolute non-starter this - it's as farcical as the Brandon idea.

If you couldn't get housing through, which is an absolute priority in planning terms, there's surely no way that retail will be considered.

A modular stadium is the way these days. MK Dons are doing it. The increase could be done during the close season.
As for the practicality of the location and the cost scenario it is difficult to match them up.
A lot would depend on the developers requirements and the council. Planning can be approved quicker under certain conditions.

Still think it's al a bit crazy though. I think it just needs the owners of the Ricoh Arena to let it be known they will sell it freehold and name their price.

Maybe our friends Hoffman and Uncle Joe' s consortium friends will buy it? Then buy out SISU's franchise and unite the two? Thought they would have bought the football club off SISU by now while it is suffering at Sixfileds without a base at it's lowest ebb? Once they had that even for a crazy figure that SISU demand of say £25m would they not be able to buy the Ricoh for it current valuation of some £15m? yada yada yada...

It's not going to Exhall ... don't think it will be anywhere if honest, but if it is ... my gut would be Warwick Uni area.

Nottingham Forest. They have had several site's around Nottingham previously but unlike what sisu are proposing they up sized and moved to what was best for the club and it's ambition. It's just the other side of a river which is the boundary, not too different to the M6 and Coventry

The architect said at the forum it would take 6-9 months to implement a new phase of seating. So it certainly couldn't be done close season.

Not sure I'd agree it's like the M6, I lived in West Bridgeford for 2 years and would've always said I lived in Nottingham.

Besides, it was in the City boundary when they built it, hence the "City Ground".

Nottingham was granted its Charter as a City in 1897 and it was called the City Ground to commemorate this as the land on which it stands was at that time within the City boundary.

Also, they're Nottingham Forest, not Nottingham City and the forest in question (Sherwood) isn't in the city.

So very different to this I'd say.

Absolutely bang on. So many hoops to jump through to get planning anyone can see it is very very unlikely it will ever be granted. If this is really the site SISU are banking on they truly are on the ropes surely?

Yes, I still agree with that. I don't want a new ground, but If a new ground (or even the Ricoh original) was built there or Brandon or say the other side of baggington airport just outside Coventry it would not put me off going. There are other examples of clubs playing outside their boundary.

This is all smoke and mirrors anyway, we'll be back at the Ricoh, but not until after the JR.

Regardless of administrative boundaries, Old Trafford and the City Ground are clearly in Manchester and Nottingham respectively. You can argue all day about whether Exhall is in Coventry or not (it comes down to whether you regard Bedworth and Coventry as one place).

It doesn’t matter – what matters is that the Ricoh Arena is clearly not in any other place than Coventry. The financial pain of its construction was dumped on the people of Coventry by the football club, and it was completed with the express purpose of providing a permanent home for the city’s football team.

As Shmmeee so rightly said, in buying Coventry City Football Club, SISU got into the Coventry business whether they like it or not. Openly stating that their new site must be outside the city boundaries is just playing political games at the fans’ expense, and is surely not acceptable in planning terms.
