The franchise football fans on this thread should aim higher.....

Why buy a shitty little team like Nuneaton.......persuade Dhinsa or Byng or Hoffman or PH4 or any of the other "hot air" merchants to buy Barcelona & put them in the ricoh.....

....for the hard of thinking, I'm being sarcastic, but this thread has put me in a bad mood.

Fucking idiots.

Why worry about other little teams playing there once we (CCFC) have gone to our new stadium.

Now you're being stupid can't get that many into sixfields... Or Tims new shed what was it again oh ya 12,000:thinking about:

Add another zero and you could be talking about the ones who only bother for the big games.

I suppose you're right. Fisher should envisage his stadium to be at least 32000, just on the off chance we play Chelsea again, sometime in the distant future.

If Nuneaton fans were up for it then I can't see a problem.
Moving to the Ricoh may be quite exciting for them, where as moving to Northampton is not.

As a Nuneaton fan you are facing a very uncertain future. Your club is for sale.
A multimillionaire says I will buy the club and stadium.
He will sell the stadium for housing.
He will reinvest the money in the team.
He will secure a cheap long term rent deal at the Ricoh free until you rise through the leagues it will then increase proportionately.

You as a Nuneaton fan suddenly from facing extinction now have an opportunity of going for the championship and who knows.

The sticking point is your stadium will be 6 miles from Nuneaton. What would you do?

I think if a lot of Coventry fans believed SISU would build the new stadium and that we were in the Ricoh whilst it was happening there would be a lot less outrage about the Exhall location than there currently is

So your happy that our owners are aiming so low happy for us to stay where we are? well i'm not anymore have supported them through thick and thin for 40 years, and after all this shit we have been feed they can ether sell up and fuck off or do whats right and bring us back to COVENTRY...

I think nuneaton fans are happy watching non league football, otherwise they would never have supported then in the first place. Nuneaton boro went out of extinction before and the fans set up nuneaton town.

If they moved nuneaton to Coventry and started a gradual refranchising to make it Coventry mk2 then I suspect the majority of nuneaton fans will set up another Phoenix, like they did 6 years ago, when they could have easily packed in and supported someone else.

I'm not a lover of the franchise principle, which is in effect what City are at the moment with no guarantee of ever returning to Coventry.

Having said that, I have to say it would be amusing to see someone (ACL?) buy up the newly-relegated Northampton Town in the summer and relocate them lock, stock & barrel to the Ricoh for their first Conference season. As a way of waving two fingers at Sisu it would be priceless. I may even be tempted to go on occasions.

Very little point in arguing over what we all realise is a very unlikely situation.

That said, should the need for a new stadium arise, then I'd be in support of the modular design that would grow with the club and it's regular attendance.

So your saying that this new stadium of 12,000 would have been big enough for us this season if it was based in Coventry? with 2000 away fans that leaves 10,000 for us.
We had 8,000 season ticket holders 2 seasons ago not much less last year. And with the good football they have been playing how many would have not been able to get tickets???
So and answer to your question yes you need bigger then you require so that you can get good pay days when they come around, after all that is what all smaller clubs aim for.
I suppose you're right. Fisher should envisage his stadium to be at least 32000, just on the off chance we play Chelsea again, sometime in the distant future.

Isn't there an opportunity / danger (depending on your view) of a merger between a distressed Nuneaton and a Coventry non-league team like the Sphinx?

In the not too distant past Dagenham and Redbridge evolved from two smaller clubs and have gone on to become a lower league team. Similarly Rushden and Diamonds (who did well and then folded but for a while...), Brighton and Hove Albion (two towns which grew and merged), Bournemouth was originally Bournemoth and Boscombe, there are probably loads of others.

It could be argued that the fields between Nuneaton and Bedworth and Coventry are being continually developed and the towns / City is gradually merging.

Anyway, what sort of crowds a Cov Sphinx/Nuneaton merged team attract at the Ricoh?
Would / Could the Higgs Site be used for a Coventry Accademy to link to the merge team?
Could Liberty Way be used for reserve / Birmingham Cup games or just as a Ryton Replacement?
Would the mere idea of the above prompt SISU to revalue the cards that they think that they hold?

It's my first post after lots of just looking so I expect to be shot down.

The thing is Nuneaton Town I am led to believe are skint and may be close to extinction, Coventry City as we know it could also be close to extinction. CCFC are one of 6 clubs experts say they believe are perilously close to wrapping up. We all fear this Sixfields farce can't be maintained. Does anyone fully trust sisu not to close us down, we are just a business to them, I don't. Now that could mean two professional clubs in this area going out of business. With that in mind what would the bottom line of acceptance be. It is a type of franchise I suppose but not in the MK Dons/Wimbledon way just survival as a football league club or very near to one. Would one amalgamated football cub possibly thriving be better than two extinct ones.

I know a number of Nuneaton fans and like a lot of us don't like their new ground much and yearn for the old Manor Park Ground that was also they hate being Nuneaton Town to them they are the Borough nothing else. Would I accept it ? Well I see no way forward as we are, playing home games 35 miles away, no money, no new ground on the horizon, untrustworthy owners, probably still millions in debt and extinction a distinct possibility taking all that into consideration I probably would.

If I was Nuneaton I would see this as a potential goldmine.
10,000 fans looking for football on a Saturday afternoon, with a little bit of marketing, a subtle name change it may be worth a punt.
With the Ricoh stadium up for grabs (AL) I would guess a lot of people are looking at their options.

You reckon Nuneaton Town to Coventry Bantams would be a subtle name change?

If a Nuneaton team came to Coventry they would still be a Nuneaton team, but just playing in Coventry and not a Coventry team. If anyone were to play at the Ricoh it would have to be CCFC or a new phoenix club out of the ashes of Coventry City.

Edgy does have a point, a lot of the people saying it is a good idea are the ones who vocally hate SISU most for moving us away. Would it be fair to up and move another club when we don't like it ourselves? It doesn't matter if it is the Conference or Premier League, they still have fans.

You're basing all your figures on rare occassions. How many away teams bring 2000 fans? Maybe 3 or 4 in league 1. The rest bring about 500 on average. Some bring less than 200.

We had 5000 season ticket holders, IIRC, in our last season in the Championship.

If/when we reach the Championship, then yes, we increase the capacity to meet the regular demand.

There really is very little benefit in having a big stadium just for three or four games of a season. And once again, there really is little point in you arguing about it. Go and have a lie down.

Surely if it is modular and can be expanded easily and we got to the PL they could whack it right up. After all the more fans in the ground, the more money for them...

Yeah Nick, they will just bolt it on and like magic it will suddenly appear.

6-9 months they suggest. Could be a large chunk of the season with a much reduced capacity.

But presently we are a Coventry team playing in Northampton and could be for upto 5 years whats' the difference

I think ours will be more than just putting a few seats in judging on the costs.
Can't you work it out from Sisu plans? :D

The difference is that as it stands we are a Coventry team temporarily playing in Northampton. If it were to become permanent then that moves the goalposts completely.

A Nuneaton team playing in Coventry would be simply that. A Nuneaton team playing in Coventry.

What are you basing this on? The cost of additional capacity has to be cheaper at the stage of initial build rather than adding at a later date. Having extra capacity doesn't really add a day to day cost, stewarding, policing etc will all be done on the crowd level not capacity. I would say the reverse was true, having that extra capacity for the occasions it is required is of more benefit than not having it.

I tend to agree that overcapacity is best so that the regular attendance is say 75% of the capacity. The problem comes when the whole seating area is opened up for every game. To enhance the atmosphere, it would be better to close off the higher tiers (if there are any) or areas that can be used for bigger attendances. In this way the ground looks fuller and the atmosphere is much better and in addition, less running costs.

MK Dons stadium seems to have 2 levels of expansion. Started at 22,000
The first being just adding the seats and that meant putting in the concrete structure from day 1. (32,000) Current.
The second level requires major concrete and support work and required a higher roof from day 1. (45,000)

MKD - 10 years of history starting at zero fan base. :claping hands:
CCFC - Ours starts at 12,000 after 130 years of history and serving the 11th biggest city in England.

I would love to return to the days at HR with the old warhorse George Curtis at centre half but things have changed and these days anything could happen. IF a re-named club came to the Ricoh lets call them Coventry Borough, yuk !. but were a winning team, financially sound and backed and marched up division 2 and beyond people would watch and support. I wouldn't like it, just as I didn't like leaving HR, for me my club was never quite the same after that, but my 2 grandsons know no different and any fan under about 18 doesn't either, bring a bit of silverware and views soon change believe me. Glasgow Rangers have had to acquire a new identity, slightly different I know but as they storm through the Scottish leagues their fans don't give a frig now

I thought about the Coventry bantams bit, not very subtle.

It would have to be something like Coventry and Nuneaton FC surely?

Maybe an anagram of the 2 names.

The only one I can come up with is Sky Blues and Borough and that would be 'Knobbly Guardhouses.'

Love to be able to shout 'come on you Knobs' at a game.

Or maybe I already have done thinking about it.

Sorted you cracked it Knobbly Guardhouses in two years time in league one, able to hold into the leagues top scorer because they play in front if 16k with a cheap rent in a top stadium. So they can match his aspirations and wages.

How do you make the assumption that I'm happy with League one football?

I don't think it would appeal to them. It will either be:

A) nuneaton town playing outside its area - (a similar situation to us) then it's not Coventry so Coventry fans won't be interested, some nuneaton fans won't go because it's been moved.

Or

B) the name is changed to 'Coventry' something - then it's no longer nuneaton, and nothing to do with their town, so the majority nuneaton fans will no longer see it as their club and start up from scratch.
