The Flaw in SBvets own idea off the top of his head is to rely on a corrupt pair of Individuals who act as though there should be some sort of Royal accession to the throne ,as against an epetition which intends to compel a democratically elected body to follow through with legislation promised if similar bodies who act like the Eufa /fifa cartels fail to implement there own policing recommendations .In the process contradicting himself by limiting his suggestion to owners only ,whereas the epetition is asking for an enquiry where all relevant parties would be subject to extreme scrutiny of their actions.
How am I contradicting myself? You are assuming I thought it had a good chance of success! Had you read my assessment, I expected less than 10% chance of success at best! I was asked how I would pursue this, and I gave a spit ball idea nothing more.
Trouble is Wingy I think what you are trying to undermine this off the cuff suggestion as if that makes the petition any more viable! Let's see if I can poke holes in the FIFA option
1) Funding issues
2) Relies on agreement by 2 or 3 people not renowned for democracy
3) Needs a co-ordinated effort from multiple supporter's group
4) Who / where would the campaign be run
5) How would we advertise this
6) Is their popular support
7) Is their a high likelihood of success
8) Do I feel passionate about the cause
9) Are the others as passionate as me
10) Is it viable
and so on and so on.
There are many many flaws in this plan as any others. You have tried to make this personal. If you do that you lose perspective!
Your contention for this petition is that it will compel a democratically elected body... well you know what you wrote!
Point is, even in the petition you admit this process has been gone through once without having a petition. What makes you think a petition backed by a minor MP is going to change the outcome or force action?
It's childish, naive and irrelevant. If it makes you feel good trying to get it through fine - but spare me this has a high likelihood of success!
I presume that somewhere along the line Michael was aware of ePetitions, and read the headline about 100k sugnatures and how a debate can be made to happen.
The debate is an out of chamber back bench MP debate, which has to be sponsored by another MP. This MP then has to champion the cause. It then gets heard in parliament.
In no way does this force the government to act! Indeed I suspect that if you check hansards, the timing of the debates allowed for ePetitions is silly O'clock when the real decsion makers are at home have en evening meal. They do get read, but only acted upon if events elsewhere put the issue in the spotlight.
An example is the Female Genital Mutilation. It will be debated, it may well even be debated in department, but it is a pointless petition! This is because the law they are asking for is already in existence!
My best guess, is now you have reached 10k, it will take a few weeks for the department to offer a response. In this response (again I am guessing), is that they will say they have already looked into this, and that the government is aware. No doubt they will also mention exactly what they have done, and probably say that they leave this sort of stuff to the Football League). If they do, then you may as well consider the issue dead, as if they are wiping their hands of the issue, it will never get to an inquiry!
Again, I could well be wrong, and you might be right. I'm just going from past experience. I don't follow long shots. Life is too short to waste time money and resources on sonmething that is unlikely to do anything. If it makes you feel like you are doing something then that's great.
I though will put my efforts into cause I feel are going to get results, or I feel passionate about. I feel passionate about getting rid of sisu. I don't get passionate over repeating an inquiry!
who knew!
