We need action not ideas (6 Viewers)

The idea that a game attended by nobody would somehow garner a load of publicity beyond one attended by 1500 is a bit of a fallacy imo.

The boycott has been made clear and credited by all quarters, it hasn't had any sort of effect though really.

I hate to be defeatist but I think the summer needs to run its course before we might say anything happen.

That is your opinion, I don't think you are right about the boycott being worthless, I think it is very important to keep it up.

Several people have suggested turning out in big numbers to a small club’s fixture. Sounds good to me – we are all starved of live football. But it needs to be somewhere that will grab the headlines, somewhere where a major public figure lives. Somewhere normally very quiet, and not used to thousands of (peacefully protesting) football fans. Somewhere which is (symbolically) about the same distance as Northampton. I couldn’t possibly be any more specific.

You might have to be !!

People have mentioned about a plane towing a message behind, well what about the plane dumping thousands of sky blue poppies onto Sixfields in memory of the missing thousands, I have witnessed a poppy drop on remembrance Sunday and it is pretty spectacular.

Any thoughts , and yes I have had a couple or three.

Yes an empty stadium would never get any media interest.

What would this media interest accomplish that the abysmal crowds haven't already?

The more media interest the more chance if finances getting discussed.

When the finances are discussed SISU will not like that as no matter which way you paint it they do not come out looking like the sort if people you trust you your savings with.

That is all that will interest them. Not the thus is harsh in Coventry fans angle

Not sure I buy this idea that Sisu can be attacked through investors being told ther crap to be honest. The only thing they'll care about is return on investment and they'll already be aware of that.

Sorry, short of the FL doing something or us going all Captain Philips on Fisher, I can't see anything happening until after the JR.

"Odd people" - lol!

Getting people together to thrash out ideas is great but apart from the Legends game and the march no event has got thousands to turn out so it's a case of either keep trying to persuade people to unite behind one idea (my head can't take any more banging against a brick wall) or make a virtue of necessity and recognise that a handful of people can have as much impact as thousands - remember, the march got no national media coverage at all - and encourage people to get on with doing different things whether that's inside sixfields, with ccc, Fl/sisu offices, the petition or whatever else (and those wanting more 'militant' action can do it single handed as already pointed out on this thread). A small number of people doing something will achieve a lot more than large numbers of people doing nothing other than endlessly debating whether to go inside sixfields/100% boycott/it's all sisu's fault/it's all acl's fault etc etc

(Lewys - don't mean the above to sound stroppy but think I've been at this too long now...)

I agree a handful of people do have the power to do something, but if we are talking about taking matters in to our own hands then a handful of people have a lot higher risk of getting in to trouble than 1000+! This forum obviously wasn't the best place to ask for ideas. Pointless in hindsight.

What we need is more action not more ideas because there is already lots that people can do – this is a war of attrition* so no individual action will lead to us returning to Coventry but think of it as battling on different fronts and it’s the combined (small) efforts of lots of people that will matter in the end. So...

  • At different events just a handful of people have been able to attract attention for our plight and keep nagging away at the different parties, so whether it’s the FL, ccc or sisu you want to target you only need a car full and you’re sorted.
  • There was a great idea on here about masks for Crewe - it only needs a couple of posters to take a lead and that could really work.
  • For people who want more done with acl/ccc there’s the back to the ricoh group so get involved with them.
  • Or if you prefer, the Sky Blue Trust is active so you can get in touch with them and go along to their next meeting.
  • If you like the idea of all parties being called to account then get to work with the epetition – word of mouth is critical so nagging people in person is really important. I’ve now got supplies of leaflets so get a few and put them up in local shops or just put some through your neighbours’ doors. This Saturday we’ll be at Stamford Bridge with the Chelsea Supporters Trust so come and help there or use the weekend’s different phone ins to publicise the petition.
  • If you go inside sixfields follow the example of Jo and her fantastic photobomb last Sunday.
  • If you want an AFC then phone the FL/FA, find out what you need to do - and do it.
  • And I don’t agree with disrupting games but if that’s what you want to do don't waste your time posting on here but look up Headingley 1975 - digging a few holes stopped a Test match and the 18 month prison sentence no doubt allowed a lot of time for devising the next plan.

If you do nothing then nothing will change. If you do something, however small, it all adds to the overall war.

*I don’t like the WW1 metaphor in relation to something like football which in comparison is so trivial, so if someone can come up with a better one I’d be very grateful

I agree, to many of us (me included) just sit around and hope the toothache will go away.
We all (me included) need to take some of the things suggested here on board and do something.

Otherwise we are fecking dead !!!!

Witney Town AFC went into liquidation last year.....Club Patron...David Cameron PM. "Its a funny old game"

...However a Chipping Norton FC fixture would be a good day out for a 2000+ SBA flash mob...:D

Do we know enough about SISU and their other investments? For all we know their investors could be making shit loads from other investments other than CCFC anyway?

A while back somebody posted a heirarchy of SISU's investment portfolio and which equity funds the money was coming from. The club was one branch of it with one or two more in Europe, one in China and maybe a few others. The Chinese one was a biopharm company but the others I can't remember.

What you do know is that hedge fund invests people money
That there are a lot if hedge funds out there and competition is strive.
If one gets media attention because one if its investments is losing millions every year.

I would suggest that is unlikely to encourage someone to invest in that company.

Hence that company will want to do something quick time to stem the bad publicity about the loses.

I also know they have had lots of publicity and don't seem to give a shite :(

The saying, “There is no such thing as bad publicity” has never come from the lips of a hedge fund manager. In fact, the growing number of hedge funds which have had their investor letter or risk report leaked to Dealbreaker, The Wall Street Journal or Marketfolly would say that certain types of publicity can damage your reputation and ability to win new allocations. It could even trigger a wave of redemptions.

Hedge funds and investors refer to bad publicity as headline risk – the possibility that negative news, even unfounded news, could spread throughout the media and impact an investment.

(They give a shit if the media is about loses not upset fans)

Focus needs to be elsewhere now.

Media pressure on the FL would be worthwhile IMO. Get the story out that they're letting us down, demand a response. At the moment we just get "Everything's fine, back in the area on 3-5 years" perhaps a bit more pressure would make them actually demand progress from Sisu, or clarify the Coventry area issue.

Media pressure, and Media attention are 2 different things. Media pressure would be good but try convincing them all to stand up for little ol'Coventry would be near impossible. They want to sell newspapers etc. not necessarilly do good in the world! Local media pressure isn't good enough.

That's why we were always better to hitch out plight to other clubs, especially London clubs IMO.
