Winning player of the month is just another indication that he will be off in the summer. He is the main asset in the squad, but he has only been scoring for this one season. If he stays he could suffer from '2nd season syndrome' and his reputation suffer.
I have no doubt that the club will cash in on him in the summer, probably blaming the stay away fans as the excuse. In truth, Wilson can only further his career elsewhere, as I'm sure his agent will tell him. A half-decent Championship club will be willing to have a punt on him.

I reckon he feels that since he has been back it is like a second season because of the time he was out. He has surprised me in the way he has not only come back playing well but also picked up where he left off with his shooting boots. It is because of that reason that I think he is destined for bigger and better things. If we were in the championship and playing well I think that he may well of stayed for another season or two but seeing the level he is at now and what he can achieve compared to what we as a club are restricted to are miles apart and for this reason alone I think he might be persuaded to go. However, if he did leave I would show no ill feeling towards him and would only want to see him make it big. We don't get many success stories from Coventry of late.

You're probably right mate, but it's not like that sort of thing hasn't happened before in football.

The grass is not always greener despite the state of our club. At a young age perhaps he just wants to play regular football and improve? SISU can of course sell him if somebody comes knocking but at some point even they have to recognise that this stategy equals we slide further down the slippery pole of the football league.

Love him to stay, I really would because I think he could turn out to be a very good player. Unfortunately the player you mention was playing in the top flight, capped for England and earning a fortune and you could use other examples such as Scholes, Giggs and Gerrard to name a few. Could you see any of these players being happy in League 1 and in our position of playing to shit home crowds? They were all hungry and wanted to showcase their skills. Sadly despite Callum liking Pressley, buying into the vision and loving Coventry, he also strikes me a an ambitious kid who wants to get on. I don't think he will get that with us and whether we like it or not, he will have an agent in his ear promising him all sorts.

hes 21, always been injured, probably been in fear of losing his football dream many a time in last 5 years. doesnt want to become a ashley cain etc
now he is top scorer in league 1 due to SP giving him a chance and because he is at a club that developed him and are now playing him week in week out.
i get the feeling playing games and improving his performances means more to him than a better wage for a better team where he could be wasting time being on bench until next injury hits and one day he looks back on career ended at age 29 and relaised he never played that many first team games.
we may be a mess, but for callum we may well be the best place to be for next few years.

I sort of understand where you are coming from. But have a few questions, if like you say he is injury prone and not likely to play a long career then surely he would want to maximise his potential earnings? he certainly is not going to be able to do that with us at present or for the foreseeable future. Although he plays for CCFC, it is the academy and the people who moulded him who he is probably most thankful to and they have now left the club. Lastly, I think most on here think he is a good player, I reckon he could be a very good player and although a lot of people on this forum keep saying he will be warming his arse on the bench of a higher placed club, but how does anybody know that he will or won't make the grade at a higher level? He may be the sort of player that thrives off playing with better players who will help him develop and and I think he has what it takes to play higher than what he is. Like I said, I would love him to stay, but my head keeps asking the question, why would he want to?

I mentioned letis because he had all the abillity in the world and could of gone to any of the so called big clubs (which the players you mentioned were at) but chose to stay at southampton for the love of the club nothing more. He could of gone glory hunting anywhere but was happy to stay with the club he loved, he may regret it now, hindsight is wonderful, one club man no trophies or many clubs many trophies, maybe he was just too lazy and could get away with that at Southampton.

I've read Le Tissier's book, the reality was that not that many of the big clubs actually came in for him, the closest he came to going was to Spurs, who at the time were only a mid table side anyway. That said, maybe Liverpool as well.

Which is why I don't see him as a lazy Le Tissier type player. To me, he seems to be a good footballer with all the tools he needs to make a good career, what makes me think that he has that little bit more is that he talks well and seems very level headed. Like I said though, the one person trying to be his best friend will be his agent. Like them or loathe them they do know what they are doing and you can be sure his won't be telling him to stay with us for too long.

I don't see him as the type to just leave for money to go and sit on a bench, it's obvious in his attitude that he loves playing.
But if a championship team can promise him first team football then I think he might go.

But do you not think he is good enough not to sit on a bench but to shine brightly at a higher level? I think the way he has come back after a long layoff which would have been harder to return from because of the injury has proved that he can be a success at a higher level.

He is good enough to play regularly every week in the championship I reckon, not good enough at the moment to go in the premier league and play regularly.
The next step in his development is to go be a first team player at a championship club like Bamford and Wells are doing at the moment, it would be a massive mistake if he follows the Bigirimana route who has gone into obscurity since joining Newcastle
I think one more year with Cov, if we are promoted he will stay with us and play in the championship with us. If we are not promoted he will likely go to a championship club

I wish I shared your optimism about him staying because as CC4L say's, it would be lovely to see him score a hatrick in front of a full house at the Ricoh (I imagine that would please him no end to). However, I think another factor might persuade him and that is our current transfer policy and what might be coming in and going out because if I was him that is another thing that would sway me.
