Anyone remember 'City's Cup of Joy' (6 Viewers)

Every time there are stories about the 1987 FA Cup win (as there are on the telegraph website today) I'm reminded of the Channel 4 programme shown a few weeks after the game called 'City's Cup of Joy'

Sorry if this has been mentioned before on here, but does anyone else remember seeing it? It was a brilliant replay of the cup final with commentary and views from John Sillett and David Pleat. I had recorded it on VHS but was gutted a few years later when I discovered it had been recorded over. I've looked for it online in recent years but it seems it was never released - as far as I can tell.

What was brilliant about it was the insight from the managers about the game. I remember one bit about John Sillett saying he had been urging Houchen to be more aggressive in the box and attack the ball whenever it is crossed and then, of course, he did just that in the final.

If anyone still has a copy of this programme, let me know!

I have a vague memory of a program on BBC Midlands as well, think it was before the final which covered the history of the club. Had all that stuff on VHS, the Midlands Today special on the celebrations after, all of Grandstand from that day. Unfortunately it all got pinched when I was burgled. Would love to see all that again.

Just think 27 years ago today I was at Wembley. Amazing really.

I still have a VHS player. If you're willing to lend me the tape I'll see if I can copy it onto a PC and do a DVD copy for each of us?

If someone could rip and upload it to a torrent site that might be an easy way to distribute it. Can't see anyone at the BBC or ITV being that bothered about stuff from 1987. Apart from the game itself (which I'm sure we're all purchased already) I doubt they've even got any of that stuff in the archive themselves anymore.

They might make another doc called 'City killed by Joy'

This was shown on Ch4 on New years day 1988. I have a VHS of it but no idea on the quality all these years later.

Edit IT was actually called 'Coventry's cup of Joy'

I couldn't remember how long after the final that they showed this. I had guessed it must have been a few weeks. For it to be shown on New Years day (months later) shows just how good the game was, even from a neutral's point of view. I don't remember seeing any other FA Cup match covered in this way. Ah, the memories!

Just checking - did you receive my PM? I've tried twice but its not showing in the sent box.

Yes I received your PM and you will pleased to know, I checked the VHS with my mate next door and it's in good nick. I forgot it starts with the youth team of 87 winning the cup. Great to see bid John again. Just watched 10 mins but rest should be OK. I will post the tape over the Weekend.

I remember it well - the commentary by the two managers was honest and friendly - Pleat admitted that when it went to extra time he was worried by our stamina levels, and thought Gynn and McGrath were outstanding as the game progressed. There were some cracking league matches against Spurs in that period too.

Once you've transferred it could you upload it to YouTube please??

ps The FA Cup.....some E. Midlands neighbours have never and will never win it:)

If anybody could do something similar with a copy of the semi-final and put it on a torrent site or even make some hard copies I would be glad to pay for one.

90% of the time;)

For the first ten minutes or so before Benno's equalizer their 5-man midfield seemed to attack at will (I was behind our goal for the 1st half), and I thought we were going to get hammered.

After the equalizer our confidence just grew and grew.....the rest is history:)

On a plane earlier and looked at my watch and then realised 27 years ago to the minute exactly the game finished. It gave me a big smile inside.

1987 cup final , the absolute best and we won it!

What I remember most that sticks in my throat (a LOT) is massive queues & tears because there were not enough tickets to go around. I remember the 50k going to the subsequent Charity Shield match too.
The reason it sticks in my throat is because we know these numbers of fans are still around (JPT semi)...but is it just a case of cannot be bothered? Not interested enough? They are happy with our current situation? It must be one of these otherwise the petition would have by now reached it's 100k already rather than the relatively paltry 18.9k including the signatures gained via other clubs etc.

GET OFF YOUR ARSES & SIGN THE DAMNED THING!!! (Apologies to those who have already)
