Can you call yourself a supporter if all you ever do is moan and talk about how rubbish we are/ how poor we are/ how painful we are to watch/ how 'bleak' next season looks?

You do realise as things stand we will be playing in Northampton next season again? If you think things don't look bleak then you're not a COVENTRY City fan as far as I'm concerned. The city we represent clearly doesn't come into it with you so why not just support someone good?

Born, here, watched the team game after game, season after season every week since the late 1960's.

Yes, I would call myself a supporter.

Actually the op might be onto something here.

The stereotypical image of a football fan is generally someone of low intelligence, cares only for his football team and has no regard for what gets damaged/destroyed in the process of his football teams plans.

Fortunately, IMO, we have very few of these type of "supporters" left these days. The result of that being it is actually safe to attend matches these days.

Hmm, tough call, but I would say the mid to late 70's when we had the 'old five' and regularly scored 5 goals in a game at home. The days of Steve Hunt, Yorath, Fergie and Wallace, Hutchison etc.

Great days. You went to every home expecting us to win and we played some very good football too.

Missed 5 away games in about 23 years, as far as I'm concerned I'm entitled to moan as much as I want

I thought the old 5 was a sixties thing, I swear I used to hear it shouted when I was standing on the Kop in the early 70's, that and come on you blue booooys

It was orignally back way when, but was used again in the 70's I recall.

'Come on you blue boys' takes me back. As does 'save all your bottles for me.'

Isn't that what all football fans do...

Even utd fans do it

True. However we seem to have a set of fans who continually try to find ways to slag off the other fans. It's some kind of superiority thing "I'm a better fan than you". It's kinda pathetic.

I doubt so many other clubs have such ridiculous argument over what a "proper" fan is.

FFS we're a lower L1 side with 1500 fans. Anyone that still supports us deserves a medal not the Spanish Inquisition.

I'm not sure it's the smartest thing to put this post up. It's just nonsense as no other team in the 92 has moved 34 miles and still there with no new signings (Swanson still not confirmed btw). Who would want to join us? Freebies and cheap players only. We survived relegation by skin of our teeth and worst record all of 2nd half of the year so relegation this year looks inevitable with no new players and already asset stripping after the JR.

We are run by a selfish hedgefund who have not got a clue about running a football club and treated us supporters with disrespect and contempt. Worst treated fans in the league. No success ever and no prospect of success year after year.

Aren't we entitled to feel a bit miffed?

No.
After watching them for 40 years home and away I gave up home games last year and stood on a bloody hill in all kinds of shit weather got jostled by police got abused by some of my own supporters, tied Ribbons around the streets went on countless marches, sat with our owners and got nothing but bullshit, Our players aren't the best I try not to slag them off (managers included) sometimes it is hard not too.

So if that means I am not a TRUE supporter so be it.

So
Can you call yourself a supporter if all you ever do is moan and talk about how rubbish we are/ how poor we are/ how painful we are to watch/ how 'bleak' next season looks?

I don't consider myself a supporter at the moment as I no longer go to games.
But I get what you are trying to say and it makes you look like a bit of a helmet. We used to moan about everyone coming back for corners, so it's a guarantee people are going to moan now.

Fuck me we are in a unique situation a divided fan base what do you expect huggs and kisses only good thing is we have not yet been beaten.

And yes I am a better fan then most?

Why because I am;)

So have all the England fans been happy with their performances did anyone moan?

Of course not proper fans.

I can't stand this mentality either. Well done, you are older than me.
Unfortunately I didn't have the option of supporting the club in 1950 as it was another 33 years until I was born.

As a supporter you have a right to moan - it's what all supporters do at some time or another. The difference is other teams' fans moan about the performances on the pitch, to us that's virtually irrelevant.

Why is that I wonder...

Most on here haven't been for a season how can they moan on something they have not seen?
Come on we would all prefer to be back home moaning about how the game was and should have been played we don't have that option just yet(watch this space)

Think that's the very definition of a supporter.

Bleakness livened by very occasional light.

Happy clappers get my goat to be fair, if everything is brilliant all the time even when it isn't, then how can you really appreciate it when things do actually happen that are good?

I'm afraid I can't remember that far back.

How do we really appreciate it when things happen that are good? :)
