Transfer Fees, Number of players in and out................... (8 Viewers)

Of course the general situation is for clubs to lose a similar amount on average to they gain because otherwise squads would increase in size year on year. In fact the general situation is probably for clubs to lose more than they sign on average because the number of players coming in through youth systems is likely greater than the number of retirees each year.

The problem is being average with signings in vs signings out isn't enough for us this season as the squad we ended the season with was much too small. If we had ended with a decent squad then we'd have been happy with one in and one out.

As for fees the simple fact of the matter is if you are bringing in millions in transfer fees, spending no money on transfer fees and paying wages below the league average you are likely to be making your squad worse. When your squad lost 11 of the last 20 games it probably can't afford to be made worse.

I'm not really sure why I'm responding to you though, you've shown in the last few days that you have no desire for a reasoned debate on this topic, just choosing to build strawman after strawman. You're not the only one of course the amount of 'wait this person was signed with no fee he must be terrible' posts has been absolutely idiotic.

What "reasoned debate" - I have presented facts not supposition and assumption. Your statement a fee is a fee is fairly idiotic isn't it?

Because it is something to moan about?

No. It's because our owners have just sold arguably one of the hottest prospects in the league and promised the proceeds would be reinvested in the playing squad. And they're not. People are 'moaning' as they don't think Coventry City should be playing in the third division, and don't see our player activity since selling Clarke as achieving this.

Are are you simply over the moon with where we now are?

We have a squad more than capable of getting us out of this league. It's a shame that our fans choose to ignore the other teams in this league or just don't know who they are because if you look, we have a strong side compared to others at this level.

What is the obsession with paying fees? If there are 2 players of equal quality, one on a free and one with a fee to pay, I'd have the free one any day.

As would everyone, the problem comes when you want a striker who can score you 20 a season just like everyone else, your either going to need to pay a fee, pay high wages, or get lucky with someone that other people don't want. Considering we've brought in 4 million selling our strike force which we were told would be reinvested it's not at all unreasonable for us to want to compete for the players who command a fee/higher wages rather than scrape around for the riskier options.

Of course if Pressley can find someone on cheap wages and on a free that he thinks will be just as good absolutely that is the best option. But it's very clear that the choices open to him have been massively affected by the finances and that he is going to have to try and get promoted with a player budget (wages and fees combined) much much lower than his likely competitors.

Look at the squads you fucking retard. Other teams squads are shit. DO research before blindly predicting relegation. Stop bringing up sisu and the fucking stadium.

That tirade says everything.

Let me give you reasoned facts. We struggled last season. If Baker goes, we've lost - what - 55 of the 74 goals we scored last season.

What's come in to convince you we'll replace those 50-odd goals, with which - and I repeat with which - we struggled last season?

No we don't

Exactly. In terms of wages spent etc. we're one of the biggest spenders. Bristol city have probably spent the most in transfer fees due to the freeman deal being worth £1 million plus and some money for korey smith. Our fans don't look at other teams, they make judgements based on nothing and are all in all fucking stupid.

Wow what an articulate, intellectual observation. I bet your carer is proud of you.

What about defenders who will allow less goals hopefully which means we don't need to score as many?

Hard to say either way until we play though and see what we let in or score.

What Jack Muldoon from Worksop you mean? Doubt it he's on a 1 year contract.

Still he was signed for a "minor" fee so I guess ccfcway would rather have him than Tudgay.

After all a fee is a fee.

i said that where ?

i dont care if they come with a fee.

Plenty of decent frees out there, Hoskins, Keogh, Chopra etc.

Just debating your point, which was wrong.

But you don't know that, do you? You hope. We've lost perhaps the divisions best keeper. What's the net position? We don't know. I do know, statistically, when Baker goes, that we've lost scorers of 75% if last seasons goals. A season that in which, post Christmas, we were showing relegation form.

People do have every right to have a moan. Especially when the Wilson money isn't being reinvented, as promised.

Chopra is a walking disaster who is addicted to gambling. Keogh would be an excellent signing. Hoskins would be ok but I'd prefer tudgay

You don't know that shaun miller and tudgay won't go and score 30 goals each do you. Your predictions and arguments are based of nothing apart from that tiny little fucking brain of yours which has the same amount of football knowledge as a peanut.

Can you stop with the silly insults? Welcome to put your point across but no need to be billy big balls in every post.

And you don't know otherwise do you? You don't know Wilson would have scored the same again, you don't know baker would have.

We have also got a more solid defence, so it could be said about goals conceded but of course I don't know that because it doesn't fit your angle :)

We just don't know about the players yet, give them a few months then we can whinge?

That's why I said we need to wait and see before whinging ;)

Ah so why are we moaning about losing moussa murphy and Clarke?

I wouldn't say rare at all.

My angle? Our owners have sold the hottest prospect in the division, promising the windfall would be reinvested and it hasn't been; you - as ever - play the SISU placitude card, and suggest I've got an angle? Priceless.

When will you ever cease your implicit defence of their actions, and step back and see you've constantly offered luke-warm support to a succession of actions and policies that are leading us to hell in a handcart?

on top of that the 3 quality you highlight come from our club due to the mismanagement of our owners whose lack of ambition and plan to aid their own ambition have helped drive good players from our club into the welcoming arms of our rivals.

Where did I defend anything? Where have i offered any support for things they have done?

Just because I disagree with some things people say, doesn't mean I support other people does it?

From my end it is not so much a moan, more of a concern. Losing several of last seasons key players in one hit (Clarke accepted), who had performed well for us last season, and taking something of a leap of faith on players that we simply don't know well enough to base a firm judgement on, and not being able to predict the outcome.

As a fan, I hope it comes off of course, but it is a high risk strategy to say the least. Other clubs are in a similar position of course - I know many Cobblers fans who share the same concern year on year, and a coiuple of mates who have said "welcome to our club" - (and not in a literal sense of course!).

3 out of how many that go through the "whole" process?

Surely the same could be said for how many players that are paid for turn out to be great? We could sit here all day and name players both free and a fee paid that were good and bad, fact is we won't know until they have actually played a few league games so no point whinging now is there, well until if they do turn out to be good and they leave we could all have a good moan about that then couldn't we?

Just going to phone Bayern up and tell them to send Robert Lewandowski back because they should really have paid a fee for him and he is obviously shite. Same with that Pirlo fella.

There are so many variables other than just how much was paid for them whether they will perform or not. We just don't know until they have actually played a few games though will we?

You don't know they will be shit, and I don't know either. Maybe if only Andy Thorn had "scouted them" then some people might actually like them before they even kick a ball.

What you do know though is that a lot of the people saying that all the new players can't be any good because they were free will be moaning by christmas that they will never even see them player if they turn out good ;)

Nick. This site doesn't have new people every day you know. People use it regularly and remember your stance on a number of issues.

This is a case in point. We've sold our hottest prospect with the promise the windfall will be reinvested in the playing squad. I very much suspect it hasn't been. And won't be. Your line? Well maybe we won't leak as many goals? Maybe someone else will step up? You've neatly side-stepped our owners apparent duplicity, and are trying to silver-line a dirty big potential cloud. Just answer the point - does it look like our owners have misled us with the ambition of the Wilson sale? Has there been a considerable migration in our goal threat since January of last season?

That's why people moan. As I don't want a few more seasons in the third division, and at least if our owners did what they eluded they would with the Wilson money I'd thing we stood a chance of changing that. And I don't want to be reliant on your cheery 'maybes' to achieve that aim
