Right, this has been bubbling around the other threads and has been mentioned a lot in "If we ever get home" posts in the last year or so.
This thread is to come up with ideas for making the Ricoh more "home", more intimidating to away teams, more supportive of ours, and more full of Sky Blues.
To kick it off, some that I've seen mentioned before:
- Limit the capacity This has been talked about for a while, but really came into focus when we got relegated. The JPT games showed the improvement that can be made with smaller numbers, though for me closing whole stands isn't ideal. My suggestion is you cover the seats behind the exit stairways, bringing everyone closer to the pitch and closer together. The exact capacity could be worked on, but I'd imagine about 15k for most league games. The covers could be sold as advertising, or my personal preference is to use local artists and fans to design something that will...
- Add some CCFC identity The badge debacle put a lot of people off the Ricoh IMO. For me the concourses need to have more character, and some CCFC graphics of old players (like Arsenal have outside the Emirates) would be cheap, easy and add character straight away. Similar boards could be put around the ground, maybe helping to create a tighter atmosphere. Again, these could be removable on non-matchdays if ACL want to be arsey.
- Involve the local community more Coventry people like Coventry people (apart from Grendel). Pre-game, half time and post match should be ideal opportunities to get in front of a crowd and could be used for local youth games/lower league games as a double header, allowing people to stay on afterwards. Or to showcase musicians or other performers, maybe even a season long Coventry's Got Talent style event or a Battle Of The Bands showcasing local talent, people could vote on a phone app. Which leads me to.
- More technology This is a bit Marmite. But personally I like to browse the net for scores, tables, this forum, etc. Some kind of WiFi deal for season ticket holders, with a small charge for others (perhaps chosen when buying the ticket) could give people access when the mobile networks are jammed, without getting too overloaded. A food ordering app would do wonders, if for no other reason than to stop so many people walking past me 5 minutes from half time.
- Less technology Cashless needs to be optional. These days people can do the same with Contactless Payments on a debit card.
So there's some ideas, what else have you got? Would any of the fans groups be willing to use their newly forged contacts at the club to push these suggestions?
