Coventry City Council is willing to consider bids for the Ricoh Arena and the surrounding land, the authority's leader has confirmed.
Councillor Ann Lucas said the council would listen to "reasonable and sensible offers" for the freehold but stressed the site would not be sold "unencumbered".
She also said it is time to consider a future for the Ricoh without a football team.

In a Telegraph front page three days before, the club had called on Coun Lucas to clarify whether the council was prepared to discuss a freehold sale, based on independent valuations.

If not, the club said it would press ahead with plans to build a new stadium in Warwickshire, after groundsharing in Northampton for up to five years.

Have also heard from a good source that the home dressing room has been repainted in Wasps colours with the away dressing room Sky Blue as Coventry will be using this going forwards. In effect our opponents will have the more comfortable and state of the art dressing room. You couldn't make it up

Wasps are having the larger dressing room permanently,CCFC smaller one both in their own colours no one else will use them and a new away dressing romm will be built using two unused offices

I think a lot of it is about investment in building up the area around the arena, SISU never made any commitment, question is, did they say they would before they bought the club then fail to deliver?
As I understand it Wasps plan to build a training facility in the area, maybe more. This is very important for the council, they aim to increase employment, that is what a lot of this fall out has been about in my opinion.

Yes I'd imagine a huge increase in employment arising from a Rugby training facility

It's happening we are loosing a great stadium to a franchise. Sad day and however much I like the Ricoh with the casino, train station on its way etc i will not enjoy being playing in the stadium of a plastic team (wasps).

I totally agree with all that. I'm still amazed CCFC fans protested the (temporary) franchise of their team to Northampton by taking 7,000 to the match v MK Franchise. Still perhaps that was just niavety back then. Since then , for whatever reason, Coventry has become central to ''franchised sports clubs'' with the long term future of CCFC still in considerable doubt. And indeed RFC Coventry.

Hopefully CCFC fans will not attend Wasps franchise or indeed MK Franchise. It's the only way ordinary supporters can protest this increasing cancer in sport.

The best thing for us would be for the Ricoh to be empty every week for Wasps match, I doubt they can survive on only 1-2k traveling up from London every week(if that many)

Sadly I think after the initial few matches they will still scrape 5-6k (Which will still look even more pathetic than our crowds) which is about there current levels now. I urge not only CCFC fans but everyone from the city to not contribute a penny to Wasps.

So they are fully justified in changing the bar name and in removing our plaques and also if they want to change all the colour of the seats too.

Exactly. Wasps worked on a deal. Got what they wanted. Then announced they were moving. No problem. The fuss should be about why we say we are moving when we have nowhere to move to. We cannot be surprised if Wasps are getting on with their stadium. Our anger should be directed at the amateurs who have got absolutely nowhere with our stadium ( be it the P.i.t.S. Stadium or an offer for the Ricoh - now obsolete ).

It's a good question KOK, but what options are available to us, realistically? The Club says it wants to build a new Stadium but 18 Months on there is no progress, we can't rent elsewhere, we have barely any Fanbase whatsoever designating ourselves from our Fanbase would just be asking for a demise..

Probably the only thing to do would be a rolling 5 year rent deal at the Ricoh, whereby the Club can negotiate with Wasps to benefit from the Matchday revenues it generates, from the bars in the Concourse, Casino, etc.

With respect to a new Stadium I wouldn't be against one, but it would have to be in Coventry, more central to the City and suitable to our needs as a Club, a Ground on the outskirts or in Nuneaton, with a capacity of 11,000 and with barely no attraction is going to be useless.. I can't say that the Club have done enough to convince anyone that there is a new Stadium on it's way, but allegedly the Club are "Close" and have been for about 12 months on land..

Bore off you broken record.

MK was about an away ground that was close by that has a huge away end that City fans could attend and have a good day out, few beers etc, and remember what it was like when we used to have a proper team.

For exactly the same reasons we took big followings to Wolves, Walsall and Notts County. I went and couldn't give a fuck about MK Dons or indeed any of the other 90 clubs in the football league.

Not really. The council were never really for the SISU bid, nor the other that was about at the time.

City council leader Ken Taylor revealed that two other "derisory" bids had been received from two other firms.

One, called Sisu, had offered £15million.

The other was from a firm called Shapiro, which offered £26million but wanted the club to pay off its debts and the city council to give it a longer lease on the Ricoh Arena and some spare land to the north of the site.

Points to note:

1 ) Sisu weren't the only game in town;
2) A longer lease wasn't an option back then, it seems.

That's a top post Robo and I agree with every word to be honest. I would like a new stadium but within Coventry as Nuneaton or such like would be as your rightly said useless.

The owners have done nothing to convince us on a new stadium and land or whatever really. Renting elsewhere you alienate what fan base you have and you are still tennants just further away like sixfields I guess.

Only possible way forward as I currently see it is to get a cheap rental deal as pos and negotiate on revenues and income as I certainly believe wasps would rather we are there than not. That has got to be true.

we know what we are getting with sisu now because we've learnt, but we've had years and years of lies, misrepresentations and plenty of the bullshit emotional crap, they are constantly promising the world while stabbing us in the back. They have been telling us for years about them building this club for the future while behind the scenes digging out the foundations so it all falls down.

Hell they are building us a new stadium so we can get all the revenues we need to be a premiership club again because of how mean the council have been to us and how we couldn't survive under a large rent agreement, now we've got a great manager, and a system in place to bring youth through and we are cash flow positive, we've got one of the biggest budgets in the league, so things are looking bright for the future. At least they are honest with us hey and deliver on their promises.

I'm not sure what emotional crap you're talking about. Of course they would have preferred that the football club play in the stadium, they are the city's council and the stadium was after all built for the football club.

SISU made that impossible though so accepting Wasps offer was the right thing to do from a business perspective.
