Rugby club draft in extra staff to meet demand after selling more than 11,000 tickets so far

Wasps have been forced to draft in extra staff to man the phone lines as fans clamour to book tickets for their next home match at the Ricoh Arena.

Sunday’s Aviva Premiership clash with Sale Sharks won’t attract the record-breaking 28,000 who turned out for their relocation bow against London Irish but, with more than 11,000 tickets sold to date, they have already doubled the gate for last season’s equivalent fixture at Adams Park.

Wasps CEO Nick Eastwood said: “We always knew that this game would be a challenge to sell with the Christmas period falling in lead-up to the game, but attendance to the same game last year was 5,502 so we’re extremely happy in comparison.”

Tickets are available from £15 at www.wasps.co.uk / 08448 471 867 or via www.ticketmaster.co.uk and half-season tickets can also be obtained.

Looks like they may lose 17k off the attendance

Does that include the buy one get one this game for free offer too and the other frees? So it could be around 8,000 - 9,000 for their second game.... Pretty big drop off that, the Gillingham effect.

The atrium box office at the Ricoh is open between 9am and 5.30pm on Tuesday, closed for New Year on Wednesday and Thursday, and open again on Friday (9am-5.30pm) and Saturday (10am-4pm).

Which staff did they use when they sold 28 odd thousand then if they need extras to sell 11? The PR Machine is ticking away ;) Make out it's very popular, get the bandwagon going...

Keep an eye on CCFC articles then look at the bottom of Wasps ones where they have the adverts on where to buy tickets, opening times, prices etc etc ;) (an advert)

Well they were trying at the Chesterfield games, there were a few temporary signs up (the ones metal stands) trying to intice people to buy tickets.

I reckon CCFC should pitch up down there on their match days and try and sell a few tickets too. Get Sky Blue Sam down there too, play them at their own game ;)

CCFC being proactive with their marketing ?! You've got to be kidding, they're all standing around scratching their arses waiting for the next shipment of tat coming in for the club shop from Bangladesh !

The council are going to look a bit daft if it ends up in a few years time with Wasps getting 7,000 - 10,000 for fewer games at the Ricoh, and CCFC playing outside Coventry (or worse, not existing at all). How exactly is that going to help the city?

Sorry, been trying to avoid all of this - but I think it's a possibility that CCC have completely ignored.

Why do they need to draft in extra staff when Ticketmaster sell their tickets? Has someone fired up the non-existent PR machine again?

I'm surprised how much that's dropped to be honest, thought they'd be on for over 20K again with ease given the number of free tickets, BOGOF etc. Thought it would be next season before we saw a huge drop off.

Be the same sort of drop off as we had after Gillingham. Or maybe a smaller drop off.

Hypothetical question.

What happens if after all the free ticket offers and the hype has died down and it goes back down to say 6 or 7,000?

Adams Park holds 10,284 so surely if they start getting attendances below that it sort proves their need to upgrade as floored?

But we dropped off back to not far from where we were before. Wasps is still an exciting shiny new thing and they are winning games, would have thought that would have led to people going back. There's only something like 8 home games left.

If it's dropped that low already what will it be like when there's not thousands of free / cheap tickets and they aren't providing free transport from High Wycombe?

If it's dropped off that much already it looks like they'll be lucky to get the attendances they were getting before. The same way momentum builds for games like their first, our Gillingham game where everyone rushes to get tickets the opposite will happen if it's a third full. People will stop buying in advance and will decide if they're going on the day.

At least for our games we're trying to drag in people who have supported for years, they'll need to consistently pull in people that don't have any ties to the club.

They claimed they needed a bigger ground as they had to have a minimum 15K ground for European games but if you look at the other grounds in the Premier there's only 3, besides the Ricoh, that have that capacity so what do all the other sides do?

Just had a thought, their PR machine could be that genius they slip out a low number (it is really around 20,000). But they say it is low, gets people talking = Free Advertising.... That would be a double bluff / masterstroke wouldn't it?

I guess SISU would be doing their PR if everybody had the mentality of "Oh I dont like SISU so I must go and watch Wasps play" "Oh SISU are bad, I dont even like Rugby but going to watch wasps just out of spite". I hope those people wear gloves to protect their knuckles while they drag on the ground if SISU are forcing people to go to Rugby match out of spite.

Just had a call from Primark, they have been using those kids in Asia to make their clothes again so I have got to go and spend shit loads in H & M now. I don't even like H & M but just going to do it because I hate Primark so much... The bastards..

Yeah I have been learning off some of your pals about Morals, H & M just use kids in Africa but that makes it ok as it isn't Primark doing it ;) Just going to write a post to say why it is fine and dandy for the kids in Africa to be hammered making clothes to justify H & M, just let me finish my protest about kids in Asia having to work though.

I would look closer to home Nick if its good enough for Fisher and Garlick to watch Wasps then obviously "my Pals" have obviously been given the green light.

I can't remember seeing Fisher and Garlick protesting about clubs being moved and being so passionate about it?

The same as Primark couldn't give a shit about H & M using kids in Africa as they are already using kids in Asia.

I forgot that morals need to be checked with other people to see what they think before deciding. I must go and read in the CET what I am meant to be thinking today and who I should be hating.

Just going to do my article for the paper on how those kids in Africa make such amazing clothes ;) Just after that I am going to phone up and give my opinion about kids in Asia being worked to make clothes, the bastards. Then I am going to abuse people coming out of Primark for them mistreating kids in Asia. (Whilst wearing my clothes made by the mistreating kids in Africa, it's alright though, they are all at it in Africa so it is fine)
