No he is trying to rubbish Sillets reputation when he achieved promotion as champions when he was at Hereford, saying his tenure was a complete flop when it wasn't.

Where he is right is there was a suspicion Sillett's best days were behind him by the time he took over at CCFC - he'd also been sacked as coach by Gould, of course. And I think I'm right he only got the gig because Terry Yorath turned it down. Hindsight proves everyone else wrong, but there was certainly a narrative present that asked how could a man sacked as Hereford manager become manager of *us*?!?

It'd be a bit like Steve Tilson rocking up at West Brom as manager - it'd certainly raise more eyebrows nowadays.

As an aside, it was around the time of Curtis and Sillett's first pre-season when the Telegraph letters pages had comments as per now in their own way - one fan at least was disappointed we'd not signed Bryan Robson.

Baring in mind we'd just avoided relegation, and Robson was England captain and playing for the richest, most glamorous side in the country, this wasn't overly realistic!

Ambition doesn't have to equal unrealistic expectations...

Now personally I see Hockaday here much as when Harrison came in under Coleman - he's a coach with a track record as coach (no shitting into cups from wardrobes mind you), to support a manager who needs some support.

If Pressley goes he might be caretaker, and depending on results would see if he got the gig (as per Sillett and Curtis keeping us up after Mackay went) but I don't see him as here to replace Pressley, more to help him.

Point still stands, he's saying he would give Hockaday a chance as you never know what will happen even if they aren't a popular choice or have a good reputation at that level. If a premier league club went and appointed Gary Johnson now there would be more than a few raised eye brows.

Similar to what you have said about not knowing what you are getting when you sign anybody.

I seriously wonder what effect on the players he would have
IMO the requirement usually Is that a fresh appointment who brings the bounce effect to a team Is one who they can have confidence In
Whether he has that I know not

Utter claptrap. You will find many posts on here from me praising Sillett and the sacking of him being a pivotal moment in our decline.

My point is obvious as others have pointed out. At the time he and Curtis were seen as cheap appointments and signs the club lack ambition. There was no reason a manager who had not worked for 8 years (and by the way had only 4% pts better win ratio at Hereford than hockaday) would succeed. He replaced an equally cheap option and Poynton was massively slated for it.

Agreed largely but surely far more likely to engender goodwill hope and trust through
ones legendary status

And for every 1 sillett you get 10 andy thorns. If sisu went down that route again then god help our plight

I'd be more concerned about the similarity to HEREFORD and US than SILLETT and PRESLEY

absolutely bang on with your thoughts - who is managing us is actually secondary as the club seem to be on an uncontrollable nose dive to league 2 and beyond

Hockaday is great coach and has a good rep for that, his management record is bloody terrible though and he shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the managers seat on anything other than a caretaker basis. Comparing his record to John Sillets is laughable.

There is good managers in both league two and conference level who I'd like to see given the chance I'd just prefer for once we didn't go with a name and actually have a look at their record. To many times we've appointed managers on the back of failure rather than steady performance or recent success.

I am not comparing it - it is worth pointing out though that when Sillett was appointed CCFC manager his win ratio was less than the current incumbent

I can't see any reason for Dave Hockaday to be brought to the club if it isn't to replace Steve Pressley if only until the end of the season. It seems certain to me Pressley didn't appoint him. The next two fixtures could be the watershed in SPs time here, 2 defeats and I am certain he will be let go. I am told SP going will rejuvenate the dressing room, might even help Reda Johnson's injury!

My gut feeling is that nothing will happen till the close season, whatever the league position. Then if Hockaday succeeds Pressley he will not have the stigma of demotion on his CV.

Sillett and Curtis inherited a squad with 6 maybe 7 top quality international class players.

The current bunch and the type of player we now acquire are non league level who even Jose Mourinho would struggle to get results with.

Personally, I think it's already too late for a new manager to make a difference. I think we are doomed to L2. Sacking SP would just cost us a ton of money and there is no guarantee a new manager would save us. The only option is to keep SP but take away his managership responsibilities.

It appears Pressley has an eighteen month severency deal built into his contract so that is the bill for getting rid of him or he stays until 2018, probably over £250000, looks like we are stuck with him.

6 or 7 top quality international class players? Really?

Disagree, his departure would boost morale instantly.
