Wasps in talks to takeover Ricoh (17 Viewers)

just in case you mean that I am one of the gleeful ones .... Wasps are cleverer than SISU .... Measured on who has a stadium and who has not. That is a factual observation. I would rather it were the other way round, but it isn't.

Don't disagree with much of that.

It must've helped Wasps though to pick up a stadium when a certain councillor was quoted as saying something along the lines of 'Hell freezing over before selling to CCFC'. Must have been slightly milder when a franchised rugby club came knocking.

You might be right, but to build the club's next 5 year plan on that possibility would be dangerous.

That much I do agree.

Personally, as you say, we are where we are. Personally I find it astonishing that because it's SISU fabricating a stadium story, we then ignore some basic tenets, that a football club should play in its own ground in its own city.

Forget the economics, this is the essence of what football *is* to a degree. Forget, too, who owns said ground for a moment (i.e. a fans' collective or benevolant council owned ground ultimately could work), but we seem to get so tied up in anti-SISU that in effect we end up saying we don't want this.

So yes, we need to look after ourselves. Pragmatically that needs an extended deal at the Ricoh (no ground will appear in the one we have even if land bought tomorrow) and that deal needs doing fast, while Wasps are obligated to pay lip service to looking after the club, and before, for that matter, the club bogs off somewhere else itself!

And then, we really need to start pointing out that as fans, who hold a certain weight in the city's identity and visibility outside of the city, it would be nice if we and the club could re-embed ourselves in the city, with our own ground and our own pride in ourselves. Forget SISU, at some point they'll be gone but *a* CCFC in whatever form will be about (even if rising from the ashes). If we end up either pushing them to build a ground in some crazy place or hooking up with some cuckoos long-term in a ground that isn't theirs, then we condemn ourselves to being eclipsed.

But that's the mandate we're giving at the moment, partly because of a tendancy (not entirely without justification tbf) to look back.

It's also a factual observation that we were negotiating with the Council for weeks to return. It is factual they were talking to the press about ownership of the Ricoh yet behind the backs of the club and the fans they were talking to Wasps.

I can understand the anger at SISU but I cannot understand the total lack of anger at CCC and their part in all this. It's baffling.

Whilst I have absolutely no doubt that the comment was made I do not blame her for it. Could you deal with our owners? In any event it did not matter since we are building our own stadium are we not?

Never mind the owners, it's the fucking club that they're representing.

Lets face it, the council screwed the club because of its feud with SISU. Whether it was justified or not based on SISU's actions is another story.

I think you're forgetting who burnt those bridges.

If TF had have said that SISU were ready to do a deal and the council didn't at least sound them out we'd have reason to be upset but TF said and continues to say the opposite.

That would be both parties then.

TF for saying we were going to build a stadium, and the council / higgs negotiating with wasps behind ours and CRFC back whilst saying they wanted to rebuild bridges.

I don't think it was a her that said it.

Anyway for the purposes of fan unity I would like to say it wasn't the fault of Sisu or CCC,no my fellow CCFC fans the fault is all mine. Now whose going to the Crewe game and the Crawley one:p

The club will be here a lot longer than SISU.....

I would say the bridge burning really begun with the rent strike.

It was widely reported that she did say it.

But on to your unity piece, I think I might venture up from the South Coast on Saturday in recognition of TMs work (even if I was dubious...hands up). Was supposed to be driving the missus to a birds night out. She's making her own way now.

I think it was Mutton could be wrong.

But Sisu have that effect on everyone they have dealings with....

It is not just the council,
You need to look at the bigger picture to see who screwed who over? I
t is just the screwers have been out manoeuvred for once.

Oddly, Mutton was reported as saying it until recently, and now it's Lucas.

Perhaps it's the default phrase for a CCC leader ;)

Yes I believe it was Mutton.

But I believe Grendel and Co changed it to AL to try and score more bullshit points.;)

Not what I am saying I said everyone who has dealings with Sisu end up falling out with them.....

Why is that?
I have heard even Wasps don't like dealing with them.

Could it be that they treat everyone with contempt, but then feel hard done by when the tables are turned?
They have blamed everyone for the mess we are in except for the one common denominator in all of this .....THEM.

Sorry must be true then if that renowned award winning reporter said so:D

tbf, he did ask for denials so it would have been easy to deny if untrue.

After all, Mutton was quite out and proud about saying it, so would have been easy just to claim it was miswritten.

Bloody hell, we had 77 pages of arguements on the finer points of the sale of the Ricoh already in the thread until it was bumped for no particularly interesting reason at all, and now we have another ten pages of arguements over the same issues.

If an argument's not worth having once, it's not worth having a thousand times!

Actually it was someone called "Ann" who said it.

Quick edit before I get found out! LR had a copy of it in one of his articles didn't he? So I don't think "Grendel and Co" changed anything.

Do you seriously believe that there was a conspiracy to get 100000 in rent revenue and a few pies and hot dogs sales from league 1 attendances?

I don't know about conspiracies, but it's not too difficult to understand if Wasps would think having the club here bringing in some 250.000 punters would add value to ACL. Just look at the different ACL records from the year we played there and the one year we didn't. And name sponsorship is up for renewable - more value with the club here.
So yes - I think it made a big difference. Either on the price they paid or even as a direct show stopper.
