In the last 3 seasons we have brought in a total of 16 players during the pre-season (contracts not loans) Fleck, Barton, Jennings, Kilbane, Malaga, Elliot, Edge, Webster, Mansett, Pugh, Reda, Swanson, Marcus,Jackson, JOB, Miller

JOB, Reda & Fleck - worked out the rest failed- not sure what I'm saying but our ability to spot a player in pre-season with the budget we are working to has and now seems to be a problem
And to even say those 3 worked is stretching it a bit

I see it is silly season on here again.

TM has signed for us as he thinks he can do a good job at our club. He hasn't been the most successful manager in the UK but he has had success. And all at a higher level than we are at. And he didn't buy success. So he seems to know what he is doing in the transfer market.

The players signing contracts early are either being offered what they have been asking for or are not that good so are not asking for much. TM is putting a squad together and not just after a few players. Any manager can offer too much to what the budget can stretch for to bring in a couple of players. But what is the use of scoring goals if you also let lots in?

TM is in talks with quite a few players he is interested in. I would guess he has his first choices he is after on a certain amount of money. And he will not sign the next best until the first choices are out of the question. This all takes time. I would prefer him to take his time and not sign the first players happy to come to us. We would end up with a squad like last season.

I would also guess that he is in talks with top clubs over some loan players. These will come in quite late. They will be players that managers don't see as being a part of their plans for this season but are a part of their future plans and they want them to get game time.

When I saw our players last season before the season started I made comments about the players not being the kind we needed. I said we would struggle. I don't want to see another hard season before it starts again. I would prefer TM to take his time and bring in the right players first time. To have a idea of all of the players.....or at least most of them.....and not just as they become available to him. It is a team game. We need a team more than a squad. And we have younger players that will come in at times when needed who will then get game time. I am nowhere near worried yet. I will only get worried if we start the pre season games without a first team or if our first team looks as poor as last season.

Don't personally rate Fleck and JOB is often a busy fool and needs to calm down and pass more accurately rather than chasing after his own misplaced pass. Reda a clear leader on the pitch but injury problems were well known and a risk for this season.

Totally agree, TM will need time and all of his experience. I think that in this division, we are one of the bigger clubs, with better facilities and a decent manager, this might tip the balance for a few undecided players that we may want to sign.

"Tony Mowbray closing in on transfer targets - but won't make panic signings

==

Tony Mowbray admits he’d like to have more summer signings in the bag by now but insists he won’t be rushed into making mistakes in the transfer market.

The Coventry City boss completed his first deal yesterday*when Marcus Tudgay put pen to paper*on a new one-year deal, while fellow senior player Chris Stokes and rookie midfielder Ivor Lawton are expected to follow.

Mowbray is also in talks with centre-back Reda Johnson and striker Nick Proschwitz about extending their stay at the Ricoh Arena*but supporters are desperate for news*on new targets capable of leading the charge for promotion.

“There will be signings but, for me, football clubs make so many mistakes by going out and buying the first players agents phone up and tell them about,” said the manager, who revealed the club have been close to signing a number of fresh faces.

“Fans will have their own ideas of what is and isn’t a good player but football is about balance and you have to balance your team. You can’t just go and buy what you think is a good player.

“You have to balance speed, power, creativity, experience, all of those things really.

“Ultimately football managers get judged over 46 games. Let’s wait and see how it goes. The bottom line is, while I have the greatest respect for supporters, what I’m manager of the club for is to make the decision on who and when we sign players.

“And at this moment in time I would have lke to have had a signing or two done by now and we have been pretty close to getting three or four.

"We could have been sat here with three or four and signed more than anyone in our league at this stage and everyone would have gone, ‘Woah, look at Coventry...’.

“We’re pretty close and yet until they’re done they’re not done. Let’s wait and see.

“There are a lot of weeks to go until the season starts so let’s judge the team when we’re ready to go. I can’t build Rome in day, but we will get there.”"
