Would you want CCFC to be the next Chelsea/Man City? (5 Viewers)

Thought I'd ask this question. Would you ever want CCFC to be bought out and become a English and European powerhouse but at the same time lose all atmosphere, have no or little English players in the squad, have fans coming from abroad pricing out casual fans (like what they're protesting about at Liverpool at the moment) and having people infront of you with selfie sticks and cameras out all game taking pictures?

I spoke to a Man City fan the other day and he said he won't be going to games anymore under the current regime - it just doesn't feel like my club anymore he said, I preferred when we were shit.

So what's your take on this? Obviously it'd be great seeing CCFC in Europe again and competing with the best but I can understand how it can alienate fans.

It would be nice to do it Southampton or Bournemouth style but would love it spending shit loads on players like Man city , and fuckin Man city fans eh moaning fuck me try our club out for a season bet he would not be saying the same then

No team in this country would turn down being the next Chelsea or Citeh. Not one single team or person would turn that opportunity down unless they're from Nuneaton.

It's all very well jumping on the "Gravy Train" now, but what happens when it hits the buffers? I've got a few friends that are Chelsea fans, and they're dreading the day Abramovic pulls the plug.
when it hits the buffers they turn into Coventry City , we are so used to wank and shit it's the only thing we know
but if that gravy train pulled up in front of me I'm jumping the fuck on and enjoying the ride for once

Yeah, if it were straight after Phil Neal had taken us to 11th, we had little overdraft, and we had the occasional 'glamour' signing (Cobi Jones!) then I might have to paue.

As it is we're shit and disenfranchised anyway, so we may as well become rich and disenfranchised!

Problem is, if anyone rocked up with £700mil, how the hell would he convince us he was a genuine generous mentalist and not just a mentalist?!?

@ ccfc92....... Abramovic was instrumental in bringing firstly Yeltsin to power in Russia, then Putin. He was accused at one time of stealing millions of gallons on fuel oil from 5 tankers worth an estimated 3.8b Roubles but somehow was swept under the carpet. It was alleged that he had deliberately forged documents for 3million kg of diesel fuel carried in five railway tankers to the value of 3.8bn roubles that were “emptied and appropriated.” He was arrested and remanded in custody on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence and fears that he might try and escape. Mr Abramovich claimed there were “problems with the banking system” and there was a delay in the refinery receiving the money, but he said once the money was paid he was released and the “problem disappeared all by itself.” ................... So as you can see, he's not a man who gives away money for nothing ;)

Knew there was something along them lines.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Chelsea. But surely their turnover being a worldwide brand will help even if he does ask for money back.

I couldn't think of anything worse. How shit would it be to be able to see the likes of Messi and Ronaldo playing against a team I care about?
Wembley every other season would be shit, to think of the quality players that we could attract and compete for the premier league would be shit.

Personally I love rocking up to the Ricoh and watching shite every week, my kids complaining that they don't want to go, can they have an Arsenal or Chelsea kit.,

FFS I would give the person that turned us into a massive club head and his mates could spit roast me, he could shag my Mrs for good measure. Alas maybe this is why we don't get a rich benefactor because I can be quite insistant

Man City and Chelsea (at no fault of their supporters) are in many ways a disgrace to football. The fact that between them they have 3/4 English players in their entire squads is terrible.

Don't get me wrong some form of success would be great, but the Premier League is nothing what it was when we were last there.

I was on the Stoke City forum not long back and they were all saying how they missed the old days of going to small old crumbling away ends with character and atmosphere. Although its great being in the Premier League, spending 50 quid on an away ticket in a ground with no atmosphere and tourists everywhere is no fun.

At the moment, yes it is difficult to support CCFC, but I enjoy being able to turn up to an away game on a cold December afternoon, paying 20 odd quid and seeing the same faces I do week in week out. I wouldn't get that if I supported Chelsea and Man City.

As much as I love watching it, I dislike the Premier League, it doesn't seem like proper football anymore. I look at FC United Of Manchester and think I'd rather support them than Man United.

What FC United have done is amazing. Isn't it the first season at their new stadium coming up? It will be interesting to see how they maintain their momentum.

I would really like to see a sensible limit put on the number of foreign players a club can have in their squads, but I suppose that would fall foul of EEC rules.

I swear a couple of seasons ago, there was a rule you had to have 5 English/British players in the starting 11 or matchday squad? Can't remember the exact ruling, but it was swiftly forgotten.

I would love to see us get massive investment and tear through the leagues into the champions league and I don't care if we had no English players, I only care about having the best players.

the Man City owners are going nowhere as they have spent millions building the club behind the scenes and Abramovic does seem to love Chelsea.

i enjoyed it when we spent money before and I don't remember many people saying please don't sign Hadji let's have a bang average overpriced English player

Its all well and good saying other clubs supporters miss the old days of crumbling grounds and teams full of English players but realistically if we, or any other club, want to compete at the top we have to move with the times. Unless the whole of football changes radically the only way to compete is to spend big. The other option is not to compete at that level. I know which one I'd prefer.

When I see teams lifting the PL trophy or winning the FA Cup I don't see many of their fans in the stands looking miserable wishing for the 'good old days'.

Their fans from the old days probably can't get tickets!

Look at what happened with us against Gillingham where it was a struggle, imagine if we had Barca at home!

Whilst I appreciate its a hypothetical question regarding mega investment.....it appears to me that an awful lot of you seem to know the price of everything & the value of nothing.....

....you may was well go & support Tescos, Intel or BP, as support a nouveau riche club like Man City or Chelsea.....

Away end tickets in the PL in particular are a disgrace.....and its also a sad state of affairs than many long standing fans have been priced out just to pay the wages of some foreign bench warmers on £150K per week....

If our games governing bodies had any backbone or teeth, it should insist on all PL clubs to ensure a minimum (say 20%) of their home tickets available on general sale at a price that is both capped & reasonable for an average working wage.

I think having a rich lunatic bank-rolling Coventry City would be fun for 1 season at most, before the novelty wore off completely.....

Success in football is much like success in life.....it only actually feels like success if you've earned it yourself !!

There's a reason why FC United of Manchester made and there's plenty of disgruntled Chelsea and Man City fans who don't see a connection to the club anymore. It may seem easy to yeah give us all the money and top players but the reality is still not everyone would be happy. It may seem laughable that fans fall out of love with their club when they are doing much better than they were before but it does happen and will continue to happen

Speaking only for myself, my preference for a limit on foreign players is about allowing home grown talent a better chance to develop and has nothing to do with a craving for the old days, good or bad.

That's to do with governance though, no? They aren't breaking rules.

Morally, I agree with your point and I think it's been detrimental to the English national side. But if we were in the Premier League and had millions to spend and were getting into the Champions League by signing Johnny Foreigner instead of Billy Brit, I don't think we'd be too worried.

I might be wrong, but you don't hear fans of the likes of Man City/Chelsea saying 'D'you know what...we won the title, but I won't celebrate it until we win with 5 English kids in the side'.

I do get your point mate, but the clubs aren't breaking the rules...governance and the way the whole game is run needs to change and things need to be fairer to all.

Good point Chief. Peter Osgood vs Zola. Francis Lee vs Aguero. Ian Wallace vs Freddie Eastwood. Denis Mortimer vs John Fleck.

@ Skyblueweeman.......Obviously you're entitled to your opinion, as am I. Although how can you say... "My point was that I don't think (my opinion only) that he'll screw over Chelsea for nearly £1bn when he leaves."...... when he has clearly "loaned" the money to Chelsea, and wouldn't be "Screwing over Chelsea" He would be legally recalling in the loan. Tell you what, lets wait and see eh? ;)

Not absolutely sure here SBK but I think there are tax advantages to loaning rather than gifting finance to the Club.

Hi Wingy, how's it going mate? Don't know if you've had the chance to look at my post #36. I'm not saying Abramovic will definately "Call in the loan" but reading about and gleening information about what sort of man he is, I think there is far more chance that he will call in the loan than not ;) Only time will tell, so lets all wait and see ;)

Won't Abrahimovic just pass on it onto his son (if he has one) so he can still have a bit of a say in the club. Isn't that what happened at Wigan?

CT filling up space again, could at least link the forum or the topic...

Over on Sky Blues Talk, the question has been posed whether or not City fans would like the club to become the next Chelsea or Man City after being brought out by a rich owner.

It might sound great but as the original poster suggests fans would be priced out, the squad would be lacking English players and all atmosphere at games would disappear (although some would suggest this is already the case at the Ricoh)

The reaction has been mixed with fans clearly divided in deciding if the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Forum owner pusbsccfc' sums it up nicely (for us anyway): "I look at FC United Of Manchester and think I'd rather support them than Man United."

Football really ain't all about the glamour of the Premier League.

Hahahahahahahaha. They can't think of original ideas so they steal the topics off here and then say pusbccfc is the owner, you couldn't make it up.
