On the few times I went by coach instead of in somebody's car, I was always amazed how many Man U, Liverpool ,Celtic and the like coaches that used to leave Pool Meadow on Saturday mornings.

Remembering the pleasure of going along the motorway, with scarf flying out the window, tooting horn when other City scarves and flags seen and decrying any other teams colours. Many a time the scarf had to be pulled in before getting to the ground; small price to pay to be allowed to go again next time. That Hillman Minx of my dads sure did some miles. HAPPY DAYS.

How do you know they never bothered again? Ten of us went that night and at some point in the season all of us bar one went back at least once in the season. My guess is that most of any clubs fans are casual and make the effort for big games otherwise the only tickets that get sold would be season tickets.

The question I posed was why did so many people who went to Gillingham not bother again for the next game. It's pretty obvious that they didn't as the Gillingham game had 26,811 home fans in attendance. The next game had less than 11K home fans so that's over 15K who couldn't be bothered with the next game.

I am replying to the likes of you and Dongle who keep going on about how great our fans are and how we should applaud them for coming to a game because theres a sniff of Wembley. I am just waiting for a mention of Bradford season tickets.

I am not only saying it or thinking it because other people do though am I?

Ian started negatively judging our fans on post #13, Andrea piped up on post # you didn't start until post #43. There must have been a sniff of saying there's a sniff of a wembeley final so you jumped on the bandwagon.

Yes of course, I have never mentioned it until then on any other threads about it :thinking about:

People go on about being negative to our fans and club, let's be positive and encourage as many people to go to as many games as possible this season then? Or is it just not allowed to be negative who will only go to a game if there is success?

I'd much rather be positive to the likes of CJ who goes to every game home and away compared to somebody like the woman who phoned into the radio moaning about SISU and hadn't been to a game since the 70's.

Why are you copying the Dongle negative to our fans mantra. Are you not capable of independent thought?

I think a lot of Coventry City fans must live in Tunbridge Wells.

Sorry Dave, I miss read your post. But my point stands. As it happens I could only make the Gillingham game because it was a friday night, if it had of been on the saturday i wouldn't have been able to go, the yeovil game i could unusually make despite it being on a saturday (something must have been cancelled). I recon if you took season ticket holders out of our average attendance the rest are floating attendees who probably go the extra mile to attend the big games. I'll say that again, go the extra mile to attend the big games. I would think the % of people who went to the Gillingham game went back at some point during the season would be high. How anyone can slate these fans for going the extra mile (not pointing the finger at you there) is so short sighted it's stupid.

Personally I will never appologise for sticking up for our fans even if there only contribution is watching the highlights on TV and cheering us on.

So 15,000 people went the extra mile to go to the Gillingham game?

Fair play to people who do work, who do have to travel who do have to make a big effort to get to games. I very much doubt that is the case for the high % of the fans that didn't come back though.

Are you capable of any thought other than trying to wind people up? Your posting history on this thread tells a tale. It consists of sticking your oar in without actualy adding to the debate. Hence you didn't get a mention in that post.

You're the snidey little gob shite hiding behind everyone shouting hit him. Grow up you little child.

Probably more. How many season ticket holders did we achieve last season?

Why is it only work and travel that you seem to think is a factor? People do have lives you know? I like to spend time with my wife and kids at the weekend doing things. I spectate at other sports apart from football etc. etc. etc.

Fair play to anyone who commits to a season ticket but most of us won't as we have a football/life balance to sort out. For some that means they only go the extra mile for the big games, for me that means pretty much every midweek game regardless of the competition as the kids will be in bed and especially on a Tuesday as the wife will be watching Holby City which I can't stand. I'll then also sacrafice time with the wife and kids to do some saturdays too. My youngest is showing an interest so hopefully I'll be able to sacrafice a little less on Saturdays as I'll be gaining time alone with her and attend more saturdays.

I don't know. Perhaps all these people moaning about our fans have miserable home lives so the football is a welcolme relief and think the rest of us should have too. One thing for sure, they're certainly miserable.

But those sort of factors are a two way street, there would be people who couldn't make the Gillingham game for those reasons (I was one of them) who went to the next game. Of course some people will go the extra mile to ensure they can make a big game but we're not talking about a couple of thousand drop off, we're talking 15K a huge amount by anyones standards.

If we want those numbers to turn up week in week out, or even just more often than they do currently, we need to know why they don't attend. I would have thought after the Gillingham game, where people were complaining they couldn't get tickets, with a cracking atmosphere and a win it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect at least 15K for the next match. Its not like it was even a gradual decline to under 10K.

It wasn't about negatively judging.. it was an observation which I actually think is reasonable.

I'm sure you're not alone in being disapointed that we didn't get 15K the next game, myself included. But to assume that 15K disapeared forever as some on here are (again, not pointing that finger at you) is stupid. I bet the majority did.

And then to point the finger soley at the fans with out even a mention of the issue's that have been turning fans away whether that be crap football, crap owners or whatever is even more stupid. Its saying you don't want your club fixing, you want to stay on the pedestal you've placed yourself on play judge and jury on anyone who doesn't agree with you. Again, not pointing that finger at you.

Yet you seem to be on here a lot moaning about SISU? I'd say up there with the most vocal about it all?

I totally understand about families etc, work and travel was just an example. In the previous threads I have put about kids, family circumstances etc.

SISU have done alot to moan about. Fans going out of there way to get to any match whether that be the big game or not is something to praise not moan about. So i don't see your point.

If you accept and understand that people have lives to get on with what are you moaning about? Unless you're suggesting that you know the exact circumstances of each of the 15K that apparently disapeared never to be seen again lives and therefore are in a position to judge each one individually? Otherwise you're really just pissing in the wind.

Any suggestion that the vast majority of the 15,000 would have been unable to attend the following game is absurd.

"Fans going out of their way" are by definition not fans are they or they would have attending high on their priority list.

3rd cheapest tickets, a goods manager for this level and developing imfrastructure make the ownership issue somewhat tiresome.

If people don't go find but then don't bleat about no squad investment as those people are contributing to that.

Of course people will have ciircumstances, but all 15k? I know of a fair few who could quite easily go to the games if they wanted, so I suspect others will know people like that too. Same with Chelsea, a lot of people went to that just to see Drogba etc, no intention at all in coming back.

The other day people were making out that if our season tickets were £149 then we would get thousands more people turn up, would their circumstances have dropped then?

It's like when people go on about the club being shit for kids. "have you signed up them as a JSB?" "no" "have you taken them to a kids party?" "no" "have you got there early before a game to see the stuff they do?" "no". It is almost like people expect to be spoon fed sometimes.

Surely it is a bit of a two way thing? The fans do need to put in a bit of effort too? I'm by no means saying miss your child's birth, miss your wedding or any other reasons, I just mean if you are sat at home doing nothing on a match day or sat on here and you can comfortably get to the game and wouldn't be causing a huge inconvenience then get up to the game.

Otherwise sitting at home and not going and moaning about lack of investment and no decent signings and when the club is moved when people didn't go anyway is a bit pointless isn't it?

My point is that people don't want to go to games, not that they can't because they haven't seen their kids all week while they have been working etc. If their kids were to go away for the day with their friends or family without them, would they then go to the game?

What's this spat about?

The way I see it is that CCFC have found a level their support deserves. The fans turn to in league 1 numbers they remain a league 1 team.

In the Premier League the fans didn't (and probably couldn't due to capacity) turn up in sufficient numbers to sustain a team spending millions on transfers and wages, that deficit has never been addressed.

Fans going out their way is the very definition of a fan. Non of us, including you, have to go. We go because we choose to. You just think you have the right to dictate how often you have to go before you're a fan. Guess what? No one put you in charge.

How many years has it took them to do this? Its great that they have but Rome wasn't built in a day and a rebuilding execise is always more time consuming than the demolition. So try not to be too disapointed if it doesn't happen overnight.

Its a chicken and egg situation isn't it.

I take your point about the JSB. If my daughter does decide to go on a regular basis I will be signing her up. And fair play to you, thats in a large part to you and the way you speak passionately about it I can see the worth in her joining up. Thank you.

I wasn't aiming it at you, it was just an example that some people expect a bit too much. Yes your daughter probably would love the kids parties even just for seeing Santa, colouring in and running around, but the way some go on they expect a limo to pick them up and spoon feed them. Everything is a bit of give and take isn't it?

If somebody doesn't go to games, doesn't really bother with the club but phones up the radio (like the woman I gave as an example who phoned up about us being moved to Northampton but hadn't been since the 60's or 70's and has no idea who even plays for us now) to moan about everything they can just for the sake of it then what's the point? The same when people don't go to the game, don't listen to the game etc yet phone in to have a moan about the owners.

The JSB deal is excellent. Signed the boy last season. Cost £20 membership with free admission for each game. He isn't so keen to go next season as of yet - he wants something to cheer I suspect - all being well this will happen and he will want to go up to a game or two.

He was ok with my Ford Focus, so no limo needed

Nearly a year on and still no one has yet come up with a viable reason (lots of excuses though) why we dropped 15k fans in one game. Its not about "always blaming our own fans" but a large proportion of that 15k need to have a look at themselves before they ever moan about the club or its lack of money/ambition again.

I think you're taking this too personally Nick. Plenty of people have never been to see England play, myself included. Doesn't mean i don't get pissed off or moan about them or don't have the right too.

Again other than she's not been since the 60's or 70's you know nothing about this woman. If it turned out that she used to go with her dad and when he died she couldn't face going up anymore as it was too upsetting her dad not being by her side but she remains a fan, watches the highlights and her children go because she's raised them to be CCFC fans it makes you're point more than a little petty. How can you say she doesn't have the right to be upset and vent her spleen on CWR? Not saying that is her circumstances, just pointing out that you have absolutely no idea what her circumstances are. Even if that isn't her circumstances who are you to tell her she doesn't have a right to an opinion?

It's not that 15000 disappeared; it's that 20000+ went for the one off. Bit like after Charity Shield, Highfield Road was not consistently full.

I'm not taking it personally, its just a discussion.

Nope, she had no idea about the club or what was going on at the club. Her only link was that I think a family member played for us for a year in this instance or something so she went to watch them.

I haven't said she has no right to an opinion, I don't shop at Waitrose for example so I am not going to be outraged and write in to the paper if they put their prices up or something am I?

There are plenty of people who just can't be bothered, fans should be encouraging as many fans as possible to go if they can shouldn't they?

Yes they should. That's never going to be acheived by slating them for picking and choosing there games though, just the opposite I would have thought. It created elitism which only ever divides and pushes people away.

So why do people go out of their way to think up imaginary reasons for people not to go?

There are so many people who have no actual reason, just silly excuses because they can't be bothered. That of course is fine, people can do what they want, just don't be so outraged about investment or signings.

Look how consistently empty Villa Park is these days. Their superfans probably think their the only club in the country with "fickle fans" too.
