BIGGEST club in the world (5 Viewers)

Especially during off season, because of boredom, we often read who is the biggest club in the world.

On facebook they often talk about it, and quite honestly can't understand it all. EVERY supporter thinks their club is big, don't they?

I've lived in 4 different continents and been to some of the biggest games BUT I can honestly say CCFC, for me, are the biggest club in the world. I could never support another team.

I remember Chelsea and Man U in the 70s and them getting 10,000 crowds. I remember us getting the HR ground full on numerous occasions. We are big and will always be big.

I know we're all feeling good right now but calm down.
I love my club even at the low points but we are not a big club like the Real Madrid's and the Barcelona's of the football world nor as Chelsea or Man United. We may be big in League One but biggest club in the world is pushing it a bit !

I think you are confusing 'biggest' with 'most favoritist' or possibly 'closest'. And Man Utd, 10k gates? You are having a giraffe?

Chelsea are only big cos of a Russian billionaire, Man city cos of Middle Eastern money. Liverpool and Man Utd are big historically...the support, success and potential has been there 50yrs plus. Villa are big historically but have slipped in terms of success and no longer can compete in terms of money etc. imagine what they might have become if the champions league was as ridiculously money producing as it is now. They forest and Liverpool may have been the real powerhouses. I think from the late 70s till we got relegated we could have become a real player if we had the right investment and success on the pitch (a league championship or two) etc. equally should some of the big foreign investors pull their money a few so called big clubs just might see themselves back in the 'middle size' pack

Oh yes and for me we are not the biggest club in the world but the only one I care about. I go to watch the sky blues but wouldn't pay to see Utd or Liverpool or arsenal or anyone.

Man Utd never got anywhere near as low as 10,000 in the 70's. You have to go back to 1949-50 and they got 12000 their average attendance was far higher.

Coventry might be my club and in my blood but they have never been anywhere near the biggest club whatever criteria you use

Don't know about Man U getting 10000 crowds but I remember them getting 17,000 in 1988/1989 season at home to Wimbledon. Think Man U finished 13th while we finished the season in 7th.

I think people are missing the point. He was simply saying that CCFC are the biggest club in his world - and that when people talk about the biggest this and biggest that it is utterly irrelevant really.

People drone on about attendances at a given point in time and use it as a gauge of club size, but its mostly bollocks. When I watched City at Stamford Bridge in 1993 in front of 8000 people I certainly wasn't thinking what a big club they were, nor were those fans of opposition clubs at the Ricoh last season when only 7000 turned up. Gillingham fans however could have been forgiven for thinking we are massive.

People are quite rightly very excited at the moment, saying things like "these are the best times watching city for years", but actually the gate the other night was thousands less than what we were getting as a shit Championship club just a few years ago. We have a long way to go to repair the damage.

The fortunes of football clubs ebb and flow over time - and our time will come again, and no doubt people will then declare how massive we are. Just because Bradford have sold a shitload of season tickets out of nowhere does not make them any different to the Bradford that used to get pitiful gates. People overthink these things, its mostly a dick measuring exercise and completely irrelevant. I saw someone the other day argue that Wigan are the biggest club in L1 because they have the most twitter followers.

To be fair, he didn't say in his world, he did say 'the' world.

Yes, remember the famous old saying. 'Shout it from the rooftops for everyone to see, for tomorrow in a strait jacket you will surely be.'

Think the original post is being taken too literally. All he was saying was for him, CCFC are the biggest club in the world, and for what it's worth, me too. You can keep your Man U's and Chelsea's thanks, following a team like City is proper football "supporting" and at the moment it's pretty good (although normal service will no doubt be resumed soon!).

In reply to who say man utd are not the biggest in the world .
By all accounts they have the biggest global fanbase of 350 million , are what 1st or 2nd richest club or valuable club.
Its not english goggles its merely fact .
I doubt that real madrid or barca have the financial pull of utd without going into debt that they will get away with as usual .

I dont like utd..but to laugh them off as the worlds biggest club is pretty laughable .

To use a music analogy the Rolling Stones call themselves the worlds greatest rock and roll band.I love the Stones but fans of other bands would disagree with that statement to label yourself the biggest and the best. Same with football how do you measure it etc ?

Glasgow Rangers, close thread.

In the 1970's Man United studied Glasgow Rangers as they couldn't understand how they were turning over so much money. Glasgow Rangers had a brand and copyright on their souvenirs. Where as any old Tom, Dick or Harry could churn out a Man United scarf and the club wouldn't earn a penny.
