Kingsman- The Secret Service-9/10 - One of the ebst films seen for ages, really great fun.

Colin Firth - Pride and Death with Extreme Prejudice.

Very much recommend it for anybody when out on DVD, if not still on at the cinema.

I only seem to watch kids films these days.

Sponge bob movie is class as is the penguins of Madagascar.

Watched Oblivion the other night on Netflix and quite enjoyed it.

Enjoyed Avengers: Age of Ultron Sunday night.

Pretty much mindless action, but as ever with Joss Whedon some good, witty dialogue, James Spader as Ultron was pretty good.

Paddington: an initially deflating choice by GF. But thoroughly enjoyed it. A bright and opulent depiction of London, and cheery humour throughout. A good moderate running time too. 8/10

French Kiss: an older romcom from 1995. If you have to watch a flick from this genre, make it one like this. Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan are an engaging screen presence. The locations are beautiful. A fun blend of slapstick, caper and caricature. 8/10

Black Sea: a critique of capitalism in the guise of a submarine thriller. It doesn't quite click - the plot is far-fetched and the characters underdeveloped. Plus Jude Law has a very dodgy Scottish accent. But lean and diverting enough. 6/10

'When the lights go out' Thriller/horror set in 1970's Yorkshire. Based on a true story, worth watching for anyone who lived through the 1970's. The detailing in the fashions, furniture and colours is superbly authentic.
I've just read 'Suite Francaise' which was excellent and am looking to watch that film soon, hope it does the book justice ?

I thought it was a really fun and clever film which makes James Bond look even duller and up it's own arse. The church scene is one of the best things I've seen in a film for a while. However I had two gripes. The brutal in your face product placement and the bit at the end of the film where the agent meets the woman in the cell. There was a line of dialogue that was so stupid and immature that I felt really let the final act down.

Watched the Blu-ray version of "Jupiter Ascending" last night. It wasn't nearly as bad as some would have you believe (and I'm no great fan of Mila Kunis). Visually at least it's spectacular.

The only problem I had is that the cast mumble a lot while the sound effects and music are ridiculously loud.

Anyone seen legend yet?

I've got an overnight stay coming up with work all on my lonesome so I thought I'd take myself to the cinema for the evening.

I want to see Legend too. Really like the look of 'The Martian'. It's had some very good reviews too.

Watched True Story last night, was quite good but was expecting a decent ending. It was a bit of a shite ending.

The Gift. 8/10. Very good thriller. Felt like they should have done more with the main characters.

I watched Absolutely Anything, should have been called Absolute Rubbish!

A poor remake of the 1936 classic The Man Who Work Miracles with an uneasy mixture of adult and juvenile humour. The only good bits were the Monty Python team as animated celestial beings.

Thoughts on the new Star Wars?

Couldnt make up my mind / remember it all so I am seeing it again tomorrow.

Read some pretty good theories on the unanswered questions though

Heard bad things about this film. Bit of a mess I think isn't it.

The Martian was a bit...meh. Not bad, but the hype didn't match what I saw. Interstellar, with it's brilliantly freestyling science was so much more superior.

Also, I had a look at Session 9 a few nights ago, a thriller/horror from 2001 that was on Putlocker. To say it was original is an understatement; it's low budget, despite David Caruso being in, however there's something compelling about it. Gotta watch it to see what I mean.

I tend to try and look for quality Indie films or low-key belters these days, all the hype and shite that comes with modern movie releases just annoys me.

Another good one is Rampage (2009), not for it's blood-drenched plot, but what the movie tells you is the cause of the plot. Brilliant film.

few of my favourite 'original' indie movies are 'the man from earth' 'another earth' 'time lapse' and 'coherence '

another earth has a twin movie that the main actress brit marling wrote and made at the same time, 'sound of my voice' which is very original and compelling too, and her director friend also went on to make his make with i origins , again original and not hollywood at all

if you like non cinema stuff thats not totally indie, which quite frankly can be a right load of bollocks , these films are good ol thinky films that have been made for the love of making films

I've seen Coherence, was quite impressed with the originality and quality of it. Time Lapse is one I've got ready for a dull evening. You're quite right though, some Indie films are just downright shite.

Tell you another Indie flick that's worth a mention, is VHS. Unbelievable film, a completely original take on the Horror/Thriller genre. Gotta be patient with it, though, it trundles a bit for the first 20 minutes.
