In his career at Cov, he averages about a goal every 195 minutes which is good by any reasonable metric. It hammers the point that needs to be played more often rather than having bit part sub cameos.

We don’t know, but Simms was wanted by many teams in our league including Ipswich. Under Robins, he got decision fatigued and couldn’t figure out who he wanted to play. Look at how EMC has thrived since MR has left.
As for Lampard, he’s been here for 7 games, let’s wait how his team develops. It will take months for his tactics and team to take place.
When Robins did play him regularly in the 2nd half of last season, it paid dividends and the sooner Lampard gets him in the team, perhaps he can take advantage of the 19 goal a season he has sitting on the bench behind a rookie.
What’s the alternative to Simms? Bassette and BTA, go and work out their respective ratios.

I do feel Simms would have done better today with a lot of the crosses into the box.
Seems a striker very much tailor made for how Lampard wants to play. Weird he’s not been backed to start much but took a while to get Dovin back on the pitch. Hopefully soon

Ok il sit back watch and hope for the best , as for bassette he's a 20 year old kid ( just turned ) who probably didn't imagine he'd be starting every week .
Bassette I worked out his goal minute ratio for his senior career the other day I put it in another thread , Asante doesn't start either really tbh
To be fair mucca , lampard has a former chelsea and England coach and chelsea coach and Millwall manager helping him , surely if Simms was as good as some on here say they'd have noticed it by now ? Youd be worried if none of them had seen that in him by now ?We will see

Maybe there's a transfer already lined up in the January window ? Can't think of any other logical reason why he wouldn't be starting.

For what it’s worth, Bassette will go on to be a good player, my personal opinion is that it’s too much, too young.
On the Lampard point, it’s 7 games in Evo. I don’t think Bassette will keep his place for much longer if the last 2 games are to go by (that’s being slightly kind). The same was being said about Collins and since we’ve brought Dovin back into the team, back-to-back clean sheets. Yes, the difficulty of games have been easier but we don’t look like conceding every shot on target we face now.

There seemed to be some tactical shortcomings in today's game. Millwall executed their gameplan to perfection, implementing a disciplined low block while maintaining aggressive pressing across the pitch. Though Lampard can't have missed the issue we stubbornly maintained our formation and personnel well into the second half, much to our detriment.
Our wing play was completely ineffective, and we lacked the creative spark needed to penetrate through the center of the pitch. The most frustrating aspect was our reluctance to adapt and switch to a more direct two-striker formation. Instead, we persisted with a system that left Simms isolated and played right into Millwall's hands.

We've just played the weakest teams in the league for me if you are to get a striker confident or scoring these are the games .
It's just odd that so many people at the club this year and we are still talking about simms in this way , same is happening with kitching and yet nobody seems to be struggling with that one

With the players we’ve got, it’ll end up being EMC and Wright on the wings. If Sakamoto is getting good looks at the far post, imagine what EMC/Wright can do.
Sakamoto had a purple patch in Dec-Feb, got injured and had this aura about him. He’s a decent player but his role will be a supporting one as the squad develops over time.

Just had a look, away record is 15th best in the league but only conceded 11 goals away from home which is Joint 4th in the league

Bassette hasn’t looked like scoring against either of them. I respect Lampard for actually sticking with a striker because they need consistent game time - Haji Wright had a 5 game drought between his run pre-injury.
Robins got to a point where Simms would start, then BTA, then Bassette and the result was that none of them could find form. There were the games that Simms scored in to be dropped.
This is just my opinion, starting Bassette is becoming increasingly untenable because he’s just not impacting the game. Simms probably had more touches in the final third than Bassette did in half the time.

Feel a bit for bassette as we are never going to get the best out of him playing like we did first half. However still think Simms suits the system more and Norman would be an menace coming on around the 70 min mark.

Take a point, not great but another clean sheet and a point. We're a long way from being in a playoff fight. There was nothing to shout about, regarding that game but it builds on the Plymouth win.
We are a middle of the road team, nothing special about us anymore.

Sadly think the only way he is coming back is if we got promoted. But the positive news, is we found Gus in the second tier in the Netherlands. We can find someone similar to him in our budget.

Millwall was always going to be a tough game. They were set up so well, it was an intriguing game and I really enjoyed it.
Rudoni twisted a chance out of nothing and was so unlucky not to score off bar and post, but that is football.
Sheaf showed today he might be a very good DM but he is no creative mid. Our best efforts were down the side from Lati Bidwell, Rudoni and sometimes Torp.
Saka and Van Ewijk were always going backwards when receiving the ball. Very disappointing
Our passing took a backward step and lacked tempo compared to Plymouth.
But Millwall can take credit for that.

In fact, the most entertaining part of the game was the paedo chant. Didn't have the foggiest what that was about until TBBM pointed out the corner taker's name.

Our approach today played out the way I feared pre-match. With EMC out and Rudoni shifted out wide to drift inside, I thought the onus would be on Bidwell a lot more to provide the width and we’d end up compensating elsewhere. Eccles played a lot deeper than the other day and MVE barely got into the opposition half, which then dragged Sakamoto back 15 yards and took away one of our key weapons. Add to that, he didn’t have the striker-like runs from LW that he can find with an early ball from deep, and it made him largely ineffective. There were a few instances first half where Torp drifted to the right side, gave us a numerical advantage, but instead we turned back. With how neutered MVE was you may as well have given him a rest and played Lati at RB.

I think their defence is probably one off the best in the league. All their games seem to be 1 nils or low scoring draws.

Sakamoto's positional play when we were in possession was poor and showed a disconnect e we with his team mates. When he did get on the ball we all know what he is going to do, drag it back and cut inside onto his left foot. I don't think he successfully did it once to complete a cross!
They defended well as a team, and they are missing one of their first choice CBs, but let's be honest we made it very easy for them to defend.

It felt like most of Saka’s passes were backwards and whilst he wasn’t the only person guilty of that, he frustrated me the most.
Taking the easy option was something Robins referenced a few times this season and this was a problem today under Lampard. We need players who drive the ball out wide and centrally to beat the press.

Thought we played ok. Second half a lot better than the first. Moved the ball well enough, but just looked a little powder puff in the final third. Given the money we’ve spent in attacking options, it feels really disappointing to say that. But really noticed the style today; high pressure and quick passing into the attacking areas, just lack the players to take the ball on the half turn.
Spicy half time with Millwall fans breaking down a fence in the smoking area. Funny to see many Cov fans giving it the biggun, to then turn and run when the fence came down.

I see BTA get a lot of stick and although I do think he’s been poor recently I had a quick look at his season. He’s started 9 games this season with 3 in the cup, where he scored 2 and one being against premier league opponents. 6 started in the league with 1 goal and 1 assist. I remember in 1 of the starts against boro away his pressing helped us get the win as he was the one who was challenged to get the player sent off (which people have raved about norm doing).He also was really unlucky that game not to score with his pressing up top. His other appearances have all come off the bench and a lot at right wing. He was a lot of money but should he be given another chance as a striker rather than simms at the minute? Not saying it’s going to work at all but could it be worth a try?
