Ref again (2 Viewers)

I'd like to see the Simms one again, anyone got a clip? I was certain at the time it should have been a penalty. I don't see how grabbing around the neck is ever a justifiable challenge.

Wright was being held for sure but it's all about action & consequence - was that sufficient reason for him to go down? Not really, no. Not sure why people think Haji should have been booked though?

Think the logic was “if you’ve given it against him for diving you need to book him”. It wasn’t a dive, I couldn’t really see but had assumed there was some other infringement so the handball on the floor makes sense.

I think the issue is now the linesmen , they are certainly no longer assistant referees

2 things yesterday
1) The corner kick thing, the linesman could clearly see where the ball was in relation to the quadrant, but didnt tell the ref happened twice, the 1st one was ok, the 2nd the ref didnt go over, and was then outside
2) one of their players was given offside by the ref from 30 yards, when the linesman looking along the line didnt give it

its been the same for a long time now, they are generally very very poor

A lot of misunderstanding around this. Since the introduction of headsets they are in constant communication with the referee. They don't immediately flag something as they speak to the referee first, much better that than one give one decision & one another - we've all seen how embarrassing that is.

I definitely think refs need help with the big decisions, although I hate the long delays you get with VAR. But better a delay than a wrong decision I guess.
I think and fear it's going to be the future, but worse than that,a fully operational automated algorithm or something like that.

He's hardly got a thing wrong, compared to most weeks. We've been atrocious, thats all.

Fuming about the nailed on red completely changed the game allowing him to go in and score 2 setting up another. Absolute joke. Then goes on to foul Lats which at that point I thought next foul no matter how soft and he's gone but nope...

Honestly, I don't know what to say anymore. I have absolutely no faith that anything will ever change.

The guy could have been sent off twice and had no complaints about it. But no. Stays on the pitch, turns the game completely in their favour.

Of course.

Not excusing the fact we were absolutely poor, mind you.

We need to be streetwise. If that was Allen with the horror tackle there would be Argyle players, coaches, fans, dogs, uncles on the pitch and the player would have been rolling around for 10 minutes.
Lati did that and got a booking for saying their player should be off.

The game turns on that decision, we couldn't contain them after he stays on.

To be fair to the ref the tackle was so late he didn't actually see just how bad it was, if he can see how high the guy's foot was he would have had to have sent him off.

Boro given two bullshit penalties in as many games. We struggle to get red cards even when the opposition commit GBH.

Hard not to think that Lampard calling out a shit ref to his face is biting us now.

Probably.

He knows it's a foul I'm guessing but couldn't have seen the severity because it was so late.

That is the type of thing VAR was bought in for.

Part of me is starting to wonder if the refs are being so bad on purpose this season to ease into the idea of bringing VAR to the championship, claiming it will help them etc.
