Think it’d be pretty disastrous if any of them are still here as Dovin’s understudy next season.
I'm assuming a loan keeper will come in as number 1 next season as Dovin is out for some time. As i said before i think its time for Frank to pull some Chelsea strings as they have about a dozen decent keepers on their books.

We have reached point, where Tyler or Bell are legit options instead of collins. Its gone to far now, for his own career and mental sake.

No one is saying Wilson is the saviour, but hes a better bet than collins currently, who's shot. Genuinely dont think he would save any shot currently. cant imagine what the team think.........

It has to be Wilson on saturday, purely to change the narrative if nothing else, we may loose, likely concede, but cant continue with Collins anymore.

As long as he’s got a better pull than Viveash!

Also quite disappointing we couldn’t sign one and develop one of our own

Yeah of course if one of the young lads could be the third keeper then great. Just if Wilson and Collins are above them as of now it seems unlikely they’re going to improve that much over the summer.

The young lad at Gloucester (I think) did get good reviews and that’s a decent enough level for a young lad. However, I remember those watching him at youth level saying he struggles with distribution and Lampard alluded to something similar last week.

I reckon we’ll go for a permanent deal. We need a more reliable 2nd choice GK than Collins and Wilson in the longer term. Assuming Dovin’s rehab is perfect and he’s back playing by December, we don't want to be in the awkward position of him being on the bench for a loanee.

We want competition for places and Collins/Wilson just aren’t reliable deputies. I’m still perplexed why we offered Wilson a new contract and as for Collins, I hope a L1 or L2 club will take him off our hands.

I think ideal would be a Moore type signing who can mentor Dovin when he’s back as well as step in.

I watched 2nd half of Newport v Walsall. ( I know I need to get a life )
Walsall keeper, young lad, looked the part. Plenty of bottle.
Get him. Then learnt he is on loan from Stoke City. P

If we got to the prem, 100% agree because we’d be able to afford a seasoned pro like Ken Darlow (to name drop) who is at the level required but not as ambitious to play.

If we’re in the Championship, perhaps counterintuitively, we should go for a younger pro willing to push Dovin.

With the seriousness of an ACL and the risk of re-injury (even for a GK), the recruitment process needs to assume a worst case scenario with Dovin. Like with Jodi Jones, it’s a possibility he may not come back the same.

Mmm...the last Walsall keeper we were impressed with didn't have a happy ending!

@Saddlebrains
Who's in goal tomorrow do you know?

Sent from my Pixel 8 using Tapatalk

If he does know, don't tell us! As he may as well let Matt Broomfield know. We don't need to know until 11:30 tomorrow. Saddlebrains' leaks need to stop in my opinion.

In our minds he is better than Collins. But in our minds a sack of coal is better than Collins.

Why don't we do this properly? Put both Collins and Wilson on the bench then watch the sack of coal get MOTM.
Given the levy imposed on fossil fuels I think we'd pay a lot more for a sack of coal than a genuinely decent keeper right now.

There's a keeper who plays in L1 that looks the part. Tall, commanding, plays out with his feet a lot very well. Might be worth a look. Player of the year last season at Crawley, having a good season at Stockport this season. Corey Addai.

I'd go the other way. The only things Dovin is lacking imo is confidence and experience. Those will come and I believe that's why Wilson had his new contract. Big personality and bucket loads of confidence. I'm a Wilson fan, but he doesn't possess half the ability of Dovin who imo has a really high ceiling and will play at the top level (hopefully with us). He's very young and raw and at 21/22 incredibly young for a keeper, so needs experience to guide and push him, maybe even to be taken out for the odd time here and there and he'll continue to grow and develop. I think two young keepers vying for the spot could damage both. Wilson more likely to accept his role as number 2 and the perfect foil for a fit Dovin. In the interim until fit, I'd be looking for an experienced loan option I think.

That sack of coal will feel right at home in the pit that is Kenilworth Road.

Dovin is a class act with bags of potential, but we don’t know how he’ll recover or for how long. The minimum is Dec 2025 but 12 months takes us to late March 2026.

I doubt the loan market will be brimming with experienced keepers, it’ll be most likely young keepers Prem teams want to farm out like Beadle.

A permanent signing for a number 2 is the best long term bet imo. If Dovin comes back strong, we have two goalkeepers that are highly competitive and in a worse case scenario, we have a new number 1 GK should Dovin not come back the same player. Either way, we need a long term solution for a number 2 GK that is not Wilson or Collins.

A loan is too risky imo.
