I think alcohol might have dimmed some of his senses too.
My vote for a crap player that I had a soft spot for would be Carlton Palmer - or going back a few years, Tony Knapp.

Arguably one of the most decorated players we've ever had. Won the French Cup, African Cup of Nations and an Olympic Gold Medal. Any one think of a player that's won more prestigious trophies before playing for us?
He played for me at semi pro level a couple of years ago. Wasn't the quickest then but was still class. He got sent off in the 2002 world cup for sticking one on Michael Ballack which I'm sure many people have wanted to do at some point!

One more: John "If he had a brain, he'd be lethal" Williams. Last I saw of him for City was probably his pre-season hatrick against Rugby at Butlin Road (who had an old and knackered David Speedie guesting for them!). Lovely bloke, stayed and signed stuff and chatted to the fans for ages after that match. Kept playing the game at a decent non-league level into his 40's...I think he's probably still going. I guess he was going too fast to stop

Can't believe that his name is anywhere near this thread: one of the most talented players to have played for us in The Premiership, no doubt about it. The only thing shite about him was his ability to stop drinking!

Did all of McAllister's running for him in The Entertainers side; Macca had been shite throughout his time with us until we brought Carlton in, and from that moment onwards was top class. I can see why he's mentioned in this thread, but your comment betrays a lack of understanding of the game!

Fair enough, but Macca couldn't tackle, head and run like him. Same as Roland and Quinn wouldn't have won any sprints; a side is all about players who compliment each other and Palmer complimented McAllister perfectly.

I'll always remember John Williams for the chant "Johnny Williams - he's so fast it's unbelievable". Right up there with 'ooh Pe-ter Bill-ing' that one.

Bit disappointed that my Alan Partridge style "dann, Dann, DAnn, DANn, DANN!" chant starting off quietly and buliding up to a shouted crescendo in honour of Scott, never really took off.

Pretty much true that, not a good player by any means, hus forays up the field used to excite the crowd but would generally lead to us conceding!
Always eemed liked a genuinely nice bloke though, and certainly helped us out in last game at Highfield road when he was at Derby!
Wondered at that game, watching with an opposing fans eye, if he had always been that bad at defending.
Realised that he probably had been!
You have to remember, these are people who think that "your mum's your dad, your dad's your mum" makes sense. There isn't much hope really. It's like those people who try to start the Sky Bue Song but miss off the first line. I've no idea how people cannot know the words to that, we sing it every five minutes.

Do you remember that game against everton when he got subbed after about 25 mins, not because he was injured but he didn't know which way to turn that day. i think we were 3 down by the time he went off.

I do, dreadful game, the one when I knew were going to get relegated.
A couple of Everton fans who i knew from work came down for that game, and they were shitting themselves that they were going to get hammered, think they barely had a bench as had so may injuries.
They couldn't believe how bad we were, think we scored a last minute penalty to make it 4-1, but nobody really cared.

Were some very long and sometimes bitter debates about the "MK" thing, but always respected yours, and Otis's views of giving a second chance(or rather 13th i think at the time!) and possibility of redemption.
Did bring out a very nasty strain of mysogyny in some though, which was pretty shameful.

One of those players who never really lived up to expectations / blind hope.
However, forgave him everything in the game at home to Charlton. The one where Danny Mills, after stamping on Aloisi in the first half, got him sent off in the second by doing a dying swan act as they fought over the ball at a throw in.
We went 1-0 down, then equalised, then after a corner Trond's shot went in off Mills. It's the only time I've wondered if God really does exist.
I've ruined several radios by throwing them at walls when Mills came on doing his "pundit" routine. Not that I hold grudges........
