...and interestingly not one being advocated before the season. Robins is undogmatic, he learns and changes if sometimes slowly and maybe even that's good.

Basically the same team (they are professional footballers, they train, they can do three matches in a week), but Simms back in if fit. Tats v Torp is a toss up. For all its critics, 3-4-1-2 seems to work with the players that we have - four at the back including Da Silva frightens the pants...

Match Thread Middlesbrough - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 2nd Nov

Home thoughts from abroad 1. See above, Eccles goal was really well taken. We don't threaten enough from midfielders running from deep. 2. Following the matchday thread from the settee you would have thought we were being hammered. Why don't people make due allowance for the fact that we were...

He clearly did. He actually bent it round the goalkeeper. Considerable nerve, the easy option would have been to move to his right to open up the angle

what do you mean by 'press resistant player'? Do you mean least likely to give the ball away under pressure? Or something else?

Match Thread Middlesbrough - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 2nd Nov

A couple of posts above that do it for me. - Swap Kitching and Binks (who played a lot of the second half like a left wing back. The poor old Luton right back must have felt he was being picked on as he had Binks, Rudoni and Wright all at him). - Torp for Tats. Hard on Tats, but Torp is more...

Match Thread Middlesbrough - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 2nd Nov

I suspect Robins would prefer a defender of some sort at left wing back when we are away to a strong team - maybe even Kitching again. The change against Luton was in part driven by his booking and the score line at half time. I would love him to give Rudoni another go but suspect he won't...

    Rudoni …?

Rudoni was involved in all three goals. 1. It was his corner for Simms, 2. A hanging cross from the left was poorly cleared to Sheaf who set up Torp 3. Another hanging cross, this time from the right, which Simms (I think) headed forward and Wright scored from multiple rebounds. ...now it...

    Ball carrying centre halves

I have not been a great Lati fan but thought he put in a good shift yesterday. Won a number of telling tackles, was quick to cover. He obviously does not dominate in the air, but contests hard so little is lost. He is also a leader on the pitch. But is he good enough to be one of 2 at the back...

    Luton player ratings

6 things 1. It is obligatory that Kitching will be booked 2. In his soul Luis Binks thinks he should play on the left wing. MotM for me though. 3. It makes a hell of a difference when you have a bloke who can take corners. Rudoni almost worth his place for that alone 4. Tats much better and in...

    Ben Wilson - well done!

Just using this thread to make a general point about goalkeepers under Robins. Boddy described MR as 'a good judge of a player' - but does this apply to goalkeepers where it has been a bit of a car crash He inherited Burge and since then has acquired O'Brien (remember him?) Marosi Wilson...

But crucially the Liverpool goalkeeper gets it away within seconds, almost instantaneously. Then they are in the opposition half. We have been taking an eternity to get beyond the first pass

    Spion Kop

Battle of spoon kop in early 1900. The British took the high ground in SK, but were picked off remorselessly during the day by Boers (dutch South Africans) who were on two lower peaks. British were forced to leave the hill and retreat. SK's Olin football grounds were high bits rather like ours was.

Match Thread Coventry City - Norwich City Match Thread - Saturday 31st Aug

I did not come on here right after the game as I suspected that it would be full of people who were only one step from calling The Samaritans. However my 5 things are 1. Sakamoto has lost it. See other thread. You might say the same for Simms and (very sadly) Bidwell 2. It's not the defensive...

    Time for 4-4-2

4 4 2 was my thought. It could accommodate our most potent threats - Haji and EMC. The latter was one of the bright spots tiday

    Tats

Not the player he was last year. Very reluctant to take his man on. Meant we had no penetration down the right. Good at retaining possession but that was about it. He should be dropped and the formation if need be changed. Bizarrely we have a spare left winger
