worth a punt with that young roster but not sure an old Rodgers is the same as an old Brady - different personalities / leadership traits

Could be argued it's a capitalist approach from the NFL and teams as it maximizes earnings through being a competitive national sport. It keeps it very much a national game due to the ability of every team having the potential to be relevant on a fairly frequent basis. One of the reasons...

I'm not making any comparisons with football. Completely different setup. NFL has a controlled built-in feeder system - college football which is a huge product in its own right. Little of what works in NFL would work in football. To start you've only got 32 professional teams in a country...

But it stops a permanent status quo. Middle market teams can compete with the large market teams as finance is equal. Everyone starts with the same cap. everyone (in theory) starts with a minimum of 7 draft picks. You can be poor for a couple of seasons but then have a chance to win/compete...

again it's the merits of a cap and draft system. Bears were a mess so cleared out a lot of cap space, took some beats last season but are now in a position to rebuild in a way few sports permit. Happy for the Vikings to regress this season, hopefully dump the Cousins contract, clear more space...

    USSR invades Ukraine.

Like the article suggests it's a political hold. Earlier in the war Ukraine were holding on long enough in conflict points to inflict damage then withdrawing before losses mounted. All the "experts" say Bakmut has little value so seems little point in Ukraine taking casualties other than...

Love free agency. It's where the merits of a cap system shine.

Maybe more teams will now see the advantage of developing black coaches and senior management when they look at how much draft compensation the 49ers picked up. 5 good picks which should produce starting calibre players - some bright spark will put a monetary value on that but it would have to...

Would have thought history teaches that forcing countries to cede territory always brings problems in the future.

Also buying ammunition from Iran in large quantities. No surprise Ukrainian and Russian stocks running low as few thought a modern conflict would be fought or last this long. Western stocks are struggling to be replenished. Surprise after a year is how Russian industry is unable to supply its...

Caveat is US admits it would take 16 months to train them and the logistical support (maintenance etc) would still be a nightmare.

Narrative has been consistent with any aggressive invader - find any justification and play it up. They continue to hold this line because they've ended up in a protracted conflict that they were not expecting. Took Crimea with little serious international grief. Been fighting in Donbas &...

Saints just need to tear it down - should have a couple of seasons back. Completely unbalanced roster.Be amazed if Carr is the answer- doubt he'll get into year 3 of that contract.

Real concern with China is that it is now (like Russia) a "dictatorial" state. Xi has removed all opposition and competition from within the leadership ranks. Govt continues to bring everything back under its control Inc industry and finance. Like Putin in Russia if there are no dissenting...

Looking for whatever support it can get. Look at the last UN vote on the calibre of country that supported Russia - literally all the misfits.

    USSR invades Ukraine.

literally. Their sole aim is to stay alive for the 6 months that then commutes their sentences. Not interested in going forwards, backwards, winning or losing - if they don't have to fire a round for 6 months it's a huge win.
