    The no loans strategy

You make the point perfectly though. Compare the seasons where we were stacked with loans as shown above. Compare this season - arguably our best in a long time. But, more importantly, look at next season. No major rebuild.

Transfer Rumour Coventry after Aussie sensation

Presumably he’s equally as efffective Home and Away.

    The no loans strategy

Calling for loans is easy in hindsight. Go back to Jan - who are you going and getting? Do you waste one on cover for Sakamoto? Would anyone loan you someone who they know won’t play in front of him? You’d probably get a CF as Simms isn’t firing - look how much damage that might have done. The...

    Solid, regular, back 5.

From who we have we know it don’t we? Wilson, Van Ewijk, Thomas, Kitching, Bidwell

But that’s where we did well. We obviously tracked the player, and didn’t let the knock back stop us doing the deal. Long term thinking. We were unlucky in that we found a system that suited but left us relying a lot on Sakamoto.

    Liam Kitching

Not sure where the narrative that he’s been disappointing comes from. A couple of mad moments but defensively and distribution wise I think he’s been our best defender.

    24/25 changes?

I’d like us to look at Rudoni - currently at Huddersfield

It's the hope that gets you

Been a great season. We’ve unearthed two 20 goal a season strikers, rebuilt the defence, got next seasons recruitment underway. We’re paying fees for people - a pipe dream for many recent years. Then add in the squad stability going into next year and that’s without talking about the cup or the...

    Liam Kitching

Kitching will be fine. He’ll mature a bit and be a very good asset for us in my opinion.

    The no loans strategy

I like and support Kings stance on loans. They are not the way to build a squad. If you get to Jan and have huge injury worries then yes - take a couple. But I’d really avoid it where possible and don’t think we needed any in January. They’re expensive, can impact morale, can force team...

Player of the Season top 5

    Wright Simms Sakamoto Eccles Sheaf

    Sheaf

A couple of things on this. Sheaf is an excellent player but positions such as Gyok and Hamer attract more interest so we may not be overrun with offers. But if we do get a good bid that is our model. Buy low, sell high. It’s working. I’d rather have Wright, Simms, Sakamoto, Van Ewijk, Kitching...

    Mark Robins

I remember being inspired by his first press conference when he said you start with nil, don’t give it away. Cue several months of defensive play where we couldn’t score and didn’t keep a clean sheet.

    Next season

A big midfield signing would push us to the next level. Plus it would plug the O’Hare gap. We’ve got enough goals up front. Tavares = Godden and we have EMC coming in and Saka returning. Make the splash in midfield. Just replace elsewhere ie Kelly/Binks

Or alternatively. High press, low press, beat the press, get the false 9 to press etc etc.

    New number one needed

I think basically that if you have forwards so close you can smell them don’t play a 10 yard pass across your own goal. If you have space you can play it between yourselves for 10 passes before scenario 1 crops up and you do what you could have done 10 passes ago. I refer you to Foden’s goal v...

    Mark Robins

There was that period early 80’s when we went through a manager a year. The Mackay years were fairly grim - what would now be premier league football attended by 10,000. Don Howe/Phil Neal periods were grim and we also had lunacy (Adrian Heath being given 3 games to “prove himself”). All reasons...

    New number one needed

I’m afraid it is when you are asking Collins, Latibeaudiere and Thomas to carry it out. Of course you don’t just lump it forward. But equally don’t always play out. It has to be mixed based on what you see in front of you.

    New number one needed

They have the talent to do it. Across the leagues you’ll see 20-30 stupid goals given away as a direct result of it.
