    Admission to the Ricoh.

Many years ago that's what used to happen at Highfield Road. I had a couple of mates at school who never had any money, they would arrive outside at half time and wait for the gates to open about five minutes after the restart. I also remember going to some away games at 'big' clubs where...

    Todays Games

Yep, Sunderland down! And, of course, it's all our fault!!

    Are we going up?

No. The League 1 and 2 playoff finals will go to the better performers from the national list as always. Last year was Simon Hooper (L1) and Darren England (L2). Given the woeful standard in L2, we can only hope! Only the Championship playoff final will get a select group referee, which was...

    The most overly disliked players

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Les Sealey yet. He wasn't very popular when he was our player, especially towards the end of his time here, after a few 'incidents'. Then, after badmouthing the club on his departure, he returned with Luton and was doing cartwheels in front of the West End...

    The woeful Ricoh P.A. system

The PA at the Ricoh has been rubbish more or less since the place was built. We were in the main stand recently and it is completely inaudible. Surely this is a safety issue. If ever they had to evacuate the stadium nobody would have a clue what was going on.

So out of touch with Premier leagure football now

Yes, it's a reality check when you think that Manchester City were relegated from the Premier League with us in 2001. Our paths have diverged a little since then. Manchester City are easily the most watchable team in the Premier now. I certainly think that the Spanish La Liga is still...

Match Thread Coventry City vs Lincoln City Match Thread - Saturday 3rd Mar

Someone obviously thinks this is a huge game. The referee is Mike Dean, who has refereed almost exclusively in the Premier League for years, and hasn't had a 4th tier game since 2012. Given his reputation, we can expect a cardfest so Doyle needs to be very careful.

£5 tickets for Accrington - Community Day

May just be showing my age here, but when I started going the programme was 6d. (2.5p) OK, it may have been on parchment and printed in Latin.

£5 tickets for Accrington - Community Day

Booked ours last night. Row A in Block U4. Sat there before and it's a great view. Padded seats, half-time cuppa - excellent value. Just hope the team performs on the day now.

    Are we happy

It may be a good position, but at the same time we are only one win ahead of 11th place too. So what is needed in the new year is consistency, a quality that City have lacked for as long as I can remember. It is a very close league with little between most of the teams, which explains how...

    Luton Forum

Luton are a tuppeny-ha'penny club with one of the worst grounds you could ever imagine. I remember going to that dump in the top flight when it shamed the game of football. They finally found their true level when they fell out of the league for five years, and nobody missed them. Just a pity...

First Ever Cov Match You Saw ?

I can remember the early Div 1 days when you could just pay at the turnstiles and get into the terraces. Manchester United fans would get in without their colours, gather at the corner and when there were enough they would just charge in and take the whole end over. Awful games to attend...

Match Thread Coventry City - Carlisle United Match Thread - Tuesday 12th Sep

Yes, still around, and recently issued the 100th red card of his league 'career'. A truly shocking performer whose continued presence on the list has been down to the fact that he married the boss's daughter! Incredibly, he has been around so long that he officiated at Highfield Road, yet in...

Match Thread Coventry City - Carlisle United Match Thread - Tuesday 12th Sep

There is a factor that needs to be considered on Tuesday that has not been realised yet. The Ricoh is about to be blessed with by far the worst referee on the list, a certain Trevor Kettle. Brace yourselves for a night of unpredictable mayhem and madness if he is on his usual form. And don't...

Match Thread Yeovil Town - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 26th Aug

I see we have another referee with L-plates on today. Only his 3rd league game. I suppose this will be normal service now. Unlike last week when we had a Premier League ref and a lino who has done a World Cup Final.

opposition forum before and after games - week 1 notts county

You are probably right about that. Yesterday's ref is new to the FL but obviously well thought of as he did the play-off final between Tranmere and Forest Green last season. Division four is where the new refs are expected to get experience, which is fair enough, I suppose. But there are...

    spain tour

Yes, Tercera means third, but as with Leagues 1 & 2 why should it make any sense? Below La Liga there is one more national division, the Segunda. Then you have 2B (third tier), which is regionalised into four leagues. The Tercera (fourth tier) is even more localised as there are 18 leagues at...

    spain tour

I see they have confirmed that they will be playing two games at San Pedro del Pinatar. One is against Valenciennes, the other to be confirmed. I have been to the town, but not to the football ground. Pinatar are a very small team, in the Tercera which is the fourth tier and their ground...

    The FL Fixtures

Well, yes, but it had all been inevitable for so long and came as no surprise. And tempered by Wembley of course. Just saying that the list of opponents really brings home how far we have fallen. We will at least be every other team's cup final.
