Should the Met police be armed?

Never understood 'beyond reasonable doubt' - if this is a verdict why do jurors take so long to reach it?

Should the Met police be armed?

It's a difficult one, as I say I've changed my mind a few times on this but don't see it as a punishment but simply an elimination from society of absolute scum. A little thought experiment for you: If your family were under imminent threat from great violence - death, rape in your home and...

Should the Met police be armed?

Is your only objection mistaken conviction?

Should the Met police be armed?

Yes true, but at least it saves taxpayers money and of course he was just an example, there are other killers without religious motives where there is no doubt and no remorse.

Should the Met police be armed?

I agree with that but of course, there are horrific murders where this is no doubt whatsoever, for example, Lee Rigby. I have changed my mind over the years on this issue and have a friend who had her young and only son murdered and have seen how it has destroyed them. As she has said to me, it...

    Coventry city centre

Apologies if Cov already do this but in Norwich they get huge numbers of families into the city centre during the summer with such a simple idea which grows every year. This year it was the 'Go Go Hares'. They get local artists (I think any arty type can bid for a single commission) to build...

Should the Met police be armed?

Don't know if I've misremembered this but didn't it used to be an automatic death penalty for killing a police officer back in the day. It was said that it made criminal gangs think twice about going armed with guns to robberies - the heat of the moment killing of a copper would get them all...

The town where police don't come out

The police aren't the force they once were. I was approached by a constable recently and he said, ' I need you to accompany me to the station'. I asked why and he said because he was too scared to go on his own. :o

Most annoying or hated TV advert!

Pretty much all the car adverts. Cliched nonsense - usually open roads, a mountain pass, off road adventures, that's why there's so many idiots driving SUVs in cities. All the IT based ones with folksy female wistfully singing as if the latest laptop upgrade is life changing.

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Agree with all of this - growth by definition is not indefinitely sustainable. This word 'sustainable' gets bandied around by all politicians and most of them don't have a clue what it really means. In Norfolk now we're getting huge housing estates tacked onto small market towns with no thought...

    Who’s your celebrity lookalike

Many years ago probably the early eighties when I was in my twenties , I was on holiday in Cheddar Gorge and I got mistaken for someone I'd never heard of - Bernie Flint, a singer apparently. These 2 girls kept on at me for an autograph and wouldn't believe me that I wasn't him.

The town where police don't come out

In the immortal words of Gene Hunt, 'come out, you're surrounded by armed bastards'. We need that kind of (Life on Mars) policing these days I reckon.

Traffic and speed cameras - For or against?

I think you'll find that it's drivers under 20 that account for disproportionately more fatal accidents than other age groups although over 80s are a bit more at risk.

Traffic and speed cameras - For or against?

I live on a particularly bad bend and there's been quite a few collisions - usually cars hitting tractors - the worst one where the towed harrowing tool went over the bonnet of the oncoming car and cracked the windscreen - a few more inches and the driver would have been decapitated. I had to...

    public toilet hygiene

My very first job on leaving school was working in labs and we got into the habit of washing hands before and after peeing. The gel thing might be an idea, I wouldn't want my sleeve absorbing all those pathogens and still being close to my hand!

Traffic and speed cameras - For or against?

For - I live in a tiny village with lots of horse riders, dog- walkers, ramblers etc and no pavements - you'd be amazed how fast people take blind bends with no concern for what's around the corner.
