What excuses? Did you read the article you linked to?
"The man identified as extremist "Jihadi John" said he felt like a "dead man walking" after being contacted by UK security services, a newspaper reports."
That newspaper? The Mail on Sunday.
Another way of looking at it: he relegates Coventry City to the fourth tier of English football, and then leaves the club with no pay-off and a much poorer reputation. Hard to see him going for a deal with so much one-way risk.
Nah. We know the typical interim/firefighter types, and he isn't one of them. Mowbray might not be offered another high calibre job like Celtic, but he could walk into most L1 job openings. Most of our own fans concede that we've done well to land him. He's also probably calculated that it's...
I guess it's the difference between applying for a job and being headhunted for a job. Presumably, and perhaps correctly, some out of work managers think they shouldn't have to compete. City can contact him and hear his terms.
There's a sizeable difference between 'It is understood' and 'The Coventry Telegraph understands'. Taking ownership of the rumour.
I mean, who else but Mowbray or his agent could come up with the quotes used. If the CT was making it up, then their reputation could be hammered by Mowbray coming...
Is this the phrase you're referring to: "It is understood that Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle has earmarked Pressley as a prime candidate to take over at the John Smith’s Stadium."
Going to hold my nose and defend the CT here.
'The Telegraph understands that the 51-year-old ... views City as a great opportunity to stabilise the club and drive it back to where it belongs ... Sources close to Mowbray believe he would, “have to consider it because of the history and...
Not bad value, to be honest.
Think he cost £200k or something. Factor in 18k a week and incentives, and that's a total expenditure of roughly £3m over three years. Decent for a 1-in-3 goalscorer in the Championship, even ten years ago.
True. Pressley always struck me as a bit naive with all his talk about long-term planning. You're not going to get the time without the results. Still, a thoroughly decent bloke it would seem, and hopefully the experience will make him a better manager.
The signals can be true though. I remember last time City were hunting for a new manager and, almost immediately, Pressley shot to second-favourite. That seemed odd given his lack of pedigree in England, and there was no press coverage linking him with the post. He was not an obvious choice for...
Doesn't really matter. Put together a list of the applicants, close the eyes, stick a pin in one of the names. Hope they work out. And if they do, hope they don't then jump ship at the first decent offer from another club.
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Chris Whyte!
34 year old journeyman defender. Drafted in on loan to cover a depleted defence. Played one game for CCFC, against a brilliant Blackburn team at the time (Shearer 'n' all), and we hammered them 5-0 with an orange ball.
I think it is at least 2-1 against any manager succeeding at any club. It's pot luck for the most part. I mean, if we break it down to the essentials - a moderate squad payroll and a decent stadium and decent training facilities and a youth academy to draw from - then CCFC is fundamentally sound...
Yep. That much is clear to me from Pressley's rhetoric about long-term refurbishment. I think his values are similar to Gordon Strachan's, and are commendable, regardless of performance.
