Sure. But what I find impressive about Money is his knack of making teams competitive. He tends to move struggling teams away from relegation, and higher-calibre teams into the playoffs. What's more, he was the coach during Roland's effective spell as CCFC manager, and has a strong reputation as...
Every manager we have been linked with, whether it is Robins, Ince, Black, Money, Wise, Brown, Shaw, Wilder, Blackwell etc, has been meet with some opposition. The really polished candidates are out of our league. You need to let Curbishley go! ;)
Not that different to the Praetorian Guard slaying emperors for whom they had little time. What that story tells me is not that players are spoiled, but that successful management takes more nous than most appreciate.
Telf was right up there with Dublin in terms of work-rate and commitment. The mistake Strachan made was continuing to play him on the right or as a wing-back; he thrived as a CM the few times he was played there.
It is such a bogus argument to claim that fans would give more effort because they "love" football. Footballers love football! That is why they are where they are. Their love of the game inspired them to play whenever and wherever they could as kids, and that is what eventually led to careers...
Of course. That is universally accepted. The point is that there's nothing to be done about it. Boo to generate more apathy and resentment? Spend a fortune we don't have on elite players who do give 100%?
That's where the manager comes into play - somebody who is willing to accept the...
Managers have the ultimate responsibility to get strong, consistent performances from players. It may seem unfair at times, but isn't that how managers have always been judged?
Plenty of blame to be spread around - bad direction from ownership, Richardson, McGinnity, entitled & stay-away fans, relegation-calibre management from Thorn, irresponsible players etc. Ludicrous to aim it in one direction.
A YouTube video was doing the rounds when Boothroyd was appointed. He was being interviewed on television when he suddenly turned and yelled at a player for not training or something. Many gleefully said that he was the 'hairdryer' the club needed.
We only have to use common sense here...
I'm sure Waggott and Fisher are no worse than most selection panels at clubs throughout the football league. Given their close proximity to the players at Ryton, one may even say they are better-placed to find the right fit as manager.
