    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

Intangibles. I'm not sure why you'd choose intangibles over an actual record at the club that is better than most.

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

No I didn't. I was responding to your post which said 'W1 D1 L5', which adds up to seven games. I posted the correct results for the last seven games, which were W2 D1 L4.

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

A wild re-positioning of the argument. Nobody is saying he is "the greatest thing since sliced bread", but it is unquestionable that he was one of the most effective managers we've had since relegation. What good reason is there not to welcome such a person back? As for his lack of managerial...

    A few words

Please lord, no more managers who have read one self-help book too many or think macho bollockings are the way to command respect.

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

Motherwell, Coventry? He was assistant to McAllister's underwhelming regime, but seemed to do alright after his promotion.

    Richard Money

If memory serves, I think there was more to it than that. Whispers of collusion with the ousted Richardson, or something to that tune.

You are assuming that the correct decision was made. Football isn't always a sensible business. As Grendel said, I'd happily take any new manager if they were going to produce the winningest record in CCFC's history...

Why should it matter whether they have a history with the club or not?

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

Not true. He had a distinguished record, albeit it in fewer games. He'd earned the points capital to have a lean spell. The record for the last seven games was W2 D1 L4. Even in the leanest part of his tenure he could claim a point a game with a +1 goal difference. And considering that his...

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

Sure. I'm not aiming criticism against him because of those scorelines, just emphasising that the City fanbase wouldn't expect 5-0 wins every week.

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

We'd also lose by similar margins now and again. I don't think fans would be upset at a 1-0 win instead of a 5-0 win. Any high expectations could have a positive effect, too - the crowd and atmosphere would be better off for it.

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

To be fair, expectations would be high for any new manager in any new job. In Black's case, it wouldn't matter whether he walked into the Coventry or Inverness dressing room - the fans would expect better than what they had seen before. Any manager worth their salt wouldn't be afraid of the...

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

It is bananas to look at it that way. What next, thanking our lucky stars that Jimmy Hill didn't continue as manager after 66-67 because he might have flopped?

    Richard Money

Context? You are the one writing off his entire history and then dismissing him because of a perfectly good record at Luton. My god.

    Eric Black on the Shortlist?

    Bloody hope so.

The man has the winningest record in Luton's history! He took them to second and third in the table. Perfect? No, but certainly not poor enough to comprehensively rule the man out, especially considering his track record elsewhere.

Shaw: Quick decision needed, Richard Money and Staunton at the ricoh

Richard Money would be an intriguing choice. He has had considerable success in his management and coaching stints, including an L2 promotion and partnering Roland Nilsson for the better part of his tenure as CCFC manager. His extensive work with youth players could also be beneficial...

    The ground

The ground is definitely not the problem. A good manager will detach the players from the ground, atmosphere and culture of losing, instead expertly training them, instilling belief, and having them operate as a professional unit every week. Better results, attendances and atmosphere would follow.

    A blessing in disguise?

A spectacular series of victories for Shaw would have told us no more about his managerial ability than what has actually happened. Way too early to assess him, but I don't think anybody seriously thinks he was ever a candidate.
