Our midfield, especially Eccles, are lambasted for playing safe. He had obviously seen a progressive pass forward to release someone and miskicked it, which even prem players do regularly.

Trouble is, neither is Simms and they are our only 2 strikers.

Like the front three. Personally would rather have Eccles in the midfield and obviously Collins is a forever worry for me but overall pretty positive team.

To be fair, we made money on Chaplin and then used his fee to buy Godden who got us promoted and went on to be one of our record goalscorers of all time (5th). Selling Chaplin for Godden was good business for the way we played.

That’s my worry with Simms. Imagine being a striker who’s just won a penalty and then let’s someone else take it. That’s what sets players like Gyokeres apart, he’s grabbing that ball and there is no one that can stop him. Simms needs some of that attitude.

My point is that this same squad (minus O’Hare, Kelly and Godden) finished 9th and an FA Cup final last season. I’m just saying that I think that was an overachievement based on those players… irrespective of how any new players that have come in since are performing (a random irrelevant point)...

I said largely the same squad. The only regular first team players we lost between the seasons were O’Hare, Godden and Kelly. They were all injured for large spells last season too so yeah it’s largely the same squad (plus additions!)
