Given his history palmer was a bizarre signing

So was Kane, both suggest relying on Viveash’s contacts to take a gamble on turning round a player because we haven’t got the funds to do it properly.

Kane I can understand more as we’d lost Dabo and Dacosta was a nonsense signing - if robins is deliberately exciting Kane it’s a poor management decision

Last seasons including contract extensions was also poor. We’ve made terrible decisions considering we have a wage bill over £17m at least.

The extensions to Allen and Kelly remain a mystery, but Sheaf and Györkeres will net is a healthy profit. Not every signing will work out but of those we’ve paid a reasonable fee for only Walker hasn’t worked out.3/4 is a pretty good ratio.

Except it’s happened at all his clubs and he’s nowhere near the player he was when he first came here.

I’m not arguing about the need for the position, but the transfer strategy, when almost all our successful signings come from young players with potential from higher divisions.

Allen at 10 is mental. And two up front is a surprise and not ideal at all.

Let’s hope Gyokeres is on it tonight and Godden is either more than a passenger or a passenger who gets one chance and takes it.

If Hamer either gets sent off or doesn’t turn up, he’s going even further down in the estimations. Same with Dabo.

It’s a team lacking in inspiration but does have game changers. Let’s hope they’re up for it.

Just noticed no Taveres on the bench? We all know how raw is he, but he does have something that bench massively lacks; pace. He’s something different.

Injured or just fifth choice?

We’ve made very little from transfers when you look at the accounts other than Maddison and Wilson - they make up around 60 - 70% of the transfer yield since relegation to league two

The question is are we reduced to high risk gambles because we can’t get the funds or is there something up with recruitment? The last few seasons would suggest the former.

Surely the cost of these high risk freebies is comparable to signing an up and coming talent from the leagues below or abroad?

Palmer will have cost a lot of money over his contract
