Without wanting another argument. Why is everyone so sure we need a other DM? We’ve got Sheaf and Kelly to come back, plus Eccles and Hamer.

Telegraph say it so there’s probably something to it, but seems further down the list than the other IMO.
Same reason some want another GK despite the fact we have 4 currently training with the first team.

But where do you play him? Ahead of Sheaf?
Depends what you want to do. I’m with you on Sheaf, think he will be a good player, but he’s different to what Kelly does.

if you need players advancing the game, and passing forward you play Sheaf. If you’re looking to defend and pick off an attacking midfielder you need a Kelly type player

I think it's because our priority signing of the summer was James. Weird to go from a player in that position being our number 1 priority to bringing nobody in.

In an ideal world we'd bring in
LWB - I think we only need 1 as Reid can maybe play and DaCosta can cover
CB x 2 - Osti replacement and someone to improve them
CM - If Eccles isn't pencilled in to play much
And most important of all - Christian fucking Walton

Yeah I sort of see that. Just curious if people are thinking we go to a flat three in the middle or a diamond like we did when we were trying to fit Kelly, James/Sheaf, Hamer and O’Hare in at once.

I'm expecting that we'll at least start the season with 2 up front. So only 2 CMs needed. Otherwise you have 6/7 players fighting over two attacking positions unless we go for the box formation which I don't feel worked as well at this level. I don't expect Kelly to be fit for the start of the season. Would expect something like the below against forest as it stands:

Moore
Rose-fadz-hyam
Dabo--------Reid/Burroughs
---Hamer-Sheaf
---------o'hare
----Walker-Waghorn

Agree with what's been said:
Lwb
2xcb
Then a cm if the budget is there but we aren't desperate for it.

Looks like Sunderland lad ‘out of contract but young so due compo’ & ‘Fills the LB Slot’ Denver Hulme is heavily rumoured to be on his way to City.

We already have:-
Mcfadzeen
Hyam
Rose
Pask
And Drysdale at CB
We only need another 1 (although I wouldn't say no to 2)
It's at LWB where we have literally no experience at all, so I'd bring in 2 there ideally.
I'm not at all convinced with either GK, but I'll give Moore time to settle, but I think we may regret it if we dont add some proven quality there.
And I'd like to add some quality to the midfield, Hamer and O'hare are good enough, but I have doubts over Kelly and Sheaf, and it may be too soon for Eccles to get a sustained run. (but time will tell)

Just had a scan on the Sunderland forum. They don’t seem to bothered. “Can’t defend, can’t head and weak as piss” is the general consensus.

Us Boro and Blackburn interested apparently.

Pask and Drysdale aren’t up to the Championship, and Rose was poor last season too. Hyam was ok but had some dreadful games and McFadzean is getting on now. If we’re serious about progressing we can’t stand still.

He's nursing a bad injury too.

Harsh on Rose. He was no worse than Dabo when he came back from a similar injury. Still holding out hope the pair of them can make the step up.

Hyam worries me but might be better at RCB than LCB.

Agree in general though. Very concerned that we’ve gone backwards as it stands in our weakest areas from last season.

Last year we had Hamer, Kelly, Sheaf, James and Ohare competing for a start in midfield, and yet were odds on for the drop at one stage, why does no one think we need to improve?

I wouldn't be completely against him if it was as a prospect we can develop but he's 23 next month & nowhere near good enough for the starting XI at this point. That would mean paying a fee for him & still needing to bring in another, first team LWB.
Seems unlikely.

Let Boro have him, he will probably want to stay in the Northeast anyway.

At no point were we odds on for the drop. Our odds were something like 3/1 even before the Rotherham game, at which point the bedwetters on here had well and truly ran out of dry sheets.

34 yr old Scot Dann is available, might fancy coming back here (we seem to go for ex-players on this board), can't see Hume coming, according to mackems, he's "nee all that" and thay could hoy him out the club, plus he seems injured most of the time.

They're worse than us for slating every player they've got. Anybody who leaves is shite etc. He's no good but 3 clubs from a higher level are looking at him

Not sure why people hate on Hyam, I think he's a good CB

He has been part of our most successful team in a generation whilst largely playing on the left side of defence. Are there better centre backs out there?…undoubtedly yes but they play in the premier league and upper levels of the championship. He has improved year on year and I can see no reason why that doesn’t happen again.

I would be happy for Hyam and Rose to battle it out for RCB. LCB and LWB would be by far my biggest priorities and if we do sign Ostigard it would be to battle McFadz for his place.
