I think it’s no secret that I don’t rate Hyam at all at this level, but maybe. It’s his distribution I have the most issues with. Not sure I’d have him ahead of McFadzean based on last season though.
I agree with that 100%. Lack of fitness left me a bit concerned made a few mistakes and generally worried me. However I think he’s a great player and it was all down to lack of games. When Rose came into the side later in the season his use of the ball was revolutionary TBH. Stopped the awful “to the wing back, back to you, turn like an oil tanker, to the other CB, get it back, lump it up, lose possession” we’d been cursed with.
Rose does have something him and the moneyball football stats crowd seem to love him.

For me you need defenders who can pick a pass or you need a big lump up front to win headers from the long balls forwards (or some pace if they’re over the top). Personally I’d like us to keep being a team that builds from the back so I really want Rose to progress.
I/ can't see MR not building towards a team have is comfortable playing out from the back
Never turn your nose up at a bean pole centre forward for some last minute lumping it into the box.Yeah our lack of signing some giant forward gives me hope.
Is Clarke-Salter actually any good? Both Sunderland and Blues fans have told me he's dreadful.
Not sure I've ever watched him play so not sure if they're just winding me up.
Debec, Shearer, Reece-Cooke, Hyldegaard.
Yep, spoiled!

No he’s not?Sunderland ?yeah they know what their on about he’s England under 21 captain
Murphy's an interesting one - Jim Blyth used to absolutely slate him whenever he was summariser on CWR!The last genuinely class keeper we had was Westwood I'd say. People like Murphy- solid enough but they wouldn't help you win points, Westwood could.

He hasn’t played for England 21s since 2019, mainly because he’s 23 now…Birmingham City: Fans call for club to sign Jake Clarke-Salter to a permanent deal
Some Birmingham City fans have called on the club to sign current Chelsea loanee Jake Clarke-Salter to a permanent deal in the upcoming summer transfer window. The England Under-21 captain was…thisisfutbol.com
Says here he is

I wouldn't go that far, but I do sometimes wonder if spectacular is, half the time, because a keeper's positioning is a bit out.
I really didn't rate Hedman, mainly for the reasons stated above. Even though Oggy was past it by that point, I always felt the defence looked somehow more secure with him there, as he could communicate with them, get them working as a unit better - and Hedman was prone to the spectacular, but I'm not entirely sure that wasn't just because he was a bit off with his positioning.Murphy would save the ones he should be saving, but Westwood was the last one I think where he’d save the ones he had no right to get near.
I think its right that we were a bit spoiled with Ogrizovic and Hedman, I remember when Hyldegaard started and the difference between a Premier League keeper and… well Hyldegaard became rather apparent, it was a huge shock. Poor old Scott Shearer though- one of those where you actually felt sorry for him.

Considering Alan Hodgkinson had a stellar reputation as a goalkeeping coach, to bring us Debec and Shearer wasn't his best reference!
(I forgot Clayton Ince as another we were spoiled with, btw!)
I'd forgotten him! His Wikipedia entry is tantalisingly surreal!Pegguy Arphexad
Wikipedia said:Rumours surfaced that Arphexad turned to making pornographic content after a failed career in acting. However, in an interview with the Leicester Mercury he denied it, saying that he works in sports insurance.
A fully fit Dabo is one of our best players. Amazing that people write him off based on a few performances when he clearly wasn't fit.A fully fit Dabo can step up
Yet you rate Ostigard who passing is obviously far worse? Hyam was playing on the left too.I think it’s no secret that I don’t rate Hyam at all at this level, but maybe. It’s his distribution I have the most issues with. Not sure I’d have him ahead of McFadzean based on last season though.

What about his last years number 2 shirt still being available ?Can't see any scenario where we sign Østigård this season unfortunately.
Same with Ostigard. Totally at sea against QPRIt’s not just Hyams passing I don’t rate (and it’s his pass selection rather than his completion rate I have an issue with), several forwards made him look silly last season.
Montgomery was so bad he took up cricket! Here is the full list of shame- all our goalkeepers since relegation... there are some names in here I genuinely have zero memory ofIain Turner?

Westwood our last great keeper. Surprise this career didn't go on the heights I expected.
