Been talking with my dad a whole lot recently, with him telling me his stories as a young person in the 70s/80s, how were these times for you lot? Sounded a whole lot more fun and easygoing than now.

The 70s was fucking grim.
I personally think people who go on about how great it was are looking at it through rose tinted spectacles, of course they might not be, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I'd rather eat one of my own kidneys than be transported back there, of course I still bang on out it to my kids when pissed, that's my job!

96 to 01 was a great time, Euro 96 britpop , travelled a bit , worked as a barmen at the wallace between 96 and 97 some mad nights Thursday to sunday in the lounge , then the opening of the skydome in 99 had some great nights in Jumpin Jaks, also the generations nightclub which was always a good place on a sunday . 97/98 ,98/99 and 99/00 were great seasons being a cov fan too

Late 70's and early 80's were pretty rough but 1986 - 1997 was the best time for me personally as I grew up. Decent football, Decent music, Festivals were ace around that time and earning enough money to do stuff I wanted as a late teen early 20's.
I think things were definitely better for those 10 years or so.

90s were great. Best music. Best video games. Other bits of the world still felt like some magical place. Politics wasn’t everywhere. Good drinking and good drugs. City in the PL.
I know everyone thinks that about the years they were a teenager, but genuinely think things went off a cliff around 2010 and have just kept getting worse since.

Euro 96 was awesome. I was in Faliraki for the group stages, pre euros so drakma (IIRC), beer and food was dirt cheap. Ahh to be young again.

Late 90's through to mid'00's I enjoyed, but then it was when I was a young adult so had some freedom, few responsibilities and still had new experiences. The 80's I was a child but it just felt grim and like everyone was struggling or fighting.
I'd hate to be growing up now though. So much stuff has gone to shit and isn't being funded properly. Plus so much technology you can't really switch off ever. Not going to go on about music etc but I think a lot of that is related to experiences etc. rather than the quality of the music, but I do think music today is poorer.

My late teenage years were in the 70's and tbh I had a great time,saw loads of bands at the Lanch,loved drinking in the Market Tavern ,the Jag and the Dive bar.Cheap to get the train to London to buy clothes in Kings Rd etc.
The 80's kind of passed me by because I had three young children by then and they took up pretty much all me and my (then) wife's time.

I was 16 in 1970, and the first half of that decade was brilliant. Still knocked about with Wood End pals, but also down the town with mates from work. Regular in Tally Ho cellar bar and the Cross, and Thistle, Climax etc with work pals.
Up the City with mates in the West End, and lots of Apprentice sports competitions to take part in, and trips Hillwalking etc. and girlfriends…
then, I did my time as an apprentice, and moved into a job with real money in 1975. Felt like I was top of the world…. Until I met the girl who I eventually married. Seemed like I was still earning an apprentice wage after meeting her, and giving up most of the activities mentioned earlier (still went to CCFC games though)
so, I know what you mean about it being grim…

@olderskyblue I was also 16 in 1970 I reckon our paths must have crossed at some point.
I was friends with a lad from Wood End (Ronnie Parsons.. great lad sadly no longer with us).
Two of the lads I hung around with were pretty well known around the town Matt and Tony Madden (again both sadly no longer with us).Good times.

Loved growing up in the 90s and going out in Cov/Brum.
Very pleased I didn’t grow up in an age where everything is recorded and put on social media…I’d be unemployed.

Love being generation X. The 90’s was an amazing decade .. music footie and being in the 20’s was just carnage. Not a worry about finding yourself splashed all over the internet. Happy days

Born 70s, grew up in 80s. No mobile phones, no social media, no cctv certainly among the better things. We could afford houses too!
I like that we have the tech now I'm older, but would hate to be a kid now growing through all of this. Somehow felt safer, more outside space and my world much smaller. Genuinely feel sorry for the current generation.

My musician mate reckons they turned the volume down for Weezer. I dunno about that, but it felt like a Smashing Pumpkins gig!
They certainly can play! Great gig. One of our group cried when they played Mayonnaise.
